We waited at the gun case for a little while before having to ask for help from 1 of the 4 employees standing around. We looked at 1 gun and then left. I came here to purchase a new pair of trail running shoes and a pair of regular running shoes. I was greeted as soon as I came in. An associate was called immediately to help me with the shoes. The person that came out was not very friendly and it was fairly obvious that he has an issue with women??? It was just really weird. He didn't seem to want to help me, even though I knew exactly what I was going to purchase. I only ended up purchasing one out of the two pairs of shoes I wanted. I needed something to get me through today which is the only reason why I didn't leave and go somewhere else. The topping on the cake was while checking out I was asked if I was sure that I knew my email address. This place is nuts and I won't be coming back. I went to get new running shoe and required a different size than was on the wall. I waited as Craig and his crony walked back and forth guffawing and discussing ordering paper towels. (Yes I was close enough to hear their conversation.) I was tired of waiting over five minutes and went to the counter where Robert called for assistance in shoes. Craig arrived and asked what I needed. I took the tag off the socks I was going to buy and put them on. Craig stopped to ask a male customer how he was doing. If I hadn't already removed the tag and put the socks on, I would have walked out. I'm not saying it was because I'm female.It could be because I'm old, fat, and white. Came in needing baseball supplies at the last min. There was a girl at the register when I came in who was very friendly and knowledgeable about where everything was that I needed. A younger man also helped me find mouth guards. After finding everything very quickly I went back to the counter where the same young woman checked me out. She made sure I had the best coupon available for my purchase and gave me her honest opinion about cleats I was buying for my boys. I was in and out in a matter of 20 min with my tween and toddler in tow and made it to the game on time. They have a wide variety of options but I was disheartened when they were out of many sizes for the youth belt & sock combo. I ended up having to purchase them separately. There's quite a variety at this store. I didn't know that Big 5 Sporting Goods still existed until I saw this one. When I was younger, my dad would ALWAYS come here to get us running shoes - we were a family of runners at one time. Our dad's hobby seemed to be forced onto us as kids. Oh well, such is life right? Well this time, I went into Big 5 looking for ammo for the impending zombie Apocalypse. And as of the time of this review writing, it obviously did not happen. After receiving the "The Zombie Survival Guide" from my mother-in-law in Germany, seeing on the news that the annual HALO Corp Counter Terrorism Summit in San Diego incorporated zombies into their disaster-crisis scenario and having a spirited chat with a high school friend about what would happen tomorrow (this was on Dec. 20th 2012), I decided that it wouldn't be a bad idea to get some extra target ammo for my sidearm, since I didn't have too many rounds. And I have wanted to go practice shooting for some time now. Not necessarily at zombies. I actually walked into Big 5 not expecting them to have any ammo for small sidearms, but they did! I didn't look at their shotguns, since I was good with my youth sized Remington 870. They actually had a lot of variety of stuff (more actual sports than just hunting) that I'm going to have to go back and look at. They also more than a few customers shopping pretty late into the night. They even offered to stay open later if I wanted to browse more. The customer service was great. This was not the Big 5 that I remembered of my childhood. This was a store that I would have gladly spent a lot of time browsing and probably spending a lot of money in. Next time that there is an impending apocalypse, I'll have to hit up Big 5 sooner. read more

Very large variety of many many different sporting goods, apparel, shoes, etc etc. lots of small things the bigger stores don't have. Nice prices and good sales. From fishing to volleyball to golf, they have a lot. I went there for golf balls and found a 24pk Nike set for 14.99. Another place I looked these were 23.99. Sweet deal. The store was clean and well staffed with friendly people. I found my gear, and wasn't bothered or hovered over like in other stores. The girl at the register gets extra credit for a great smile and service. Good eye contact, not on the cell phone and seemed appreciative of my business. Exactly what I'm looking for. An engaged and friendly employee wanting my business and helping me correctly. Good job Big5! read more

Not a fan. This store did not have the feel of a sporting good store and the employees were not very knowledgeable. I was looking for some TRX straps and the employees had not idea what I was talking about so I wondered around the store myself looking for them. The store did had a decent selection of tennis shoes and a little bit of every sport, but not a large selection of anything. If you are in a hurry and looking for a basic sporting good item, they may have it, but if you are looking for something a little more specific, you may not be in luck. read more

This Big 5 is the worst, really bad customer service. For instance the employees don't know what half of the stuff in the store is. I asked if they sell softball pants, and then the lady told me what are softball pants and took me to the legging section saying here aren't leggings softball pants. Big 5 also doesn't sell a lot of specific stuff. And most importantly they need new employees. I recommend not shopping here if you want really good items or employees. read more

I give them credit for fitting so many items into a small store. It's actually to the point of being crowded. But they still don't have what I was looking for. The prices are consistent with Dick's. So you're actually better off going to Dick's for the same priced merchandise with many more options. read more

They charged me for an extra box of ammo, I didn't notice until I checked the receipt 5 days later. So why am I giving them 5 stars? I polity went back to the store, told the cashier my story. The manager was right behind the cashier he said he would have to check the cameras and asked for my receipt polity. As this was the day after christmas they were busy. I waited 10 minutes, the manager came back and said I was right and they would get me a refund right there. I offered up my debt card to put the money back on it and he insisted on cash because refunds on debt cards can take a few days to go through depending on the company. All in all the whole process took 15 minutes (5 for the line, 10 for waiting). I believe the cashier who rang me up charge me for an extra box of ammo by mistake, not maliciously. She was being polite and talking to me while wringing me up and might have gotten side tracked. Good customer service, will be back for more ammo. read more

I started at another sporting goods store looking for soccer cleats and ended up here. They had a better selection and the prices were more reasonable than the other places. I had only planned on a pair of cleats but ended up buying everything my daughter needed for the same price I had paid for just one pair at that other store. Good deal! read more
