They're helpful and offered Service, but I went because of the sale and I had three racks of miscellaneous items. And that was about it. I found it a little strange because I've been to other big five locations and they've had way better sales. A ton of deals. So to break it down,,,, The service was good the selection was not there, and since there's no good selection, there wasn't really any values. So I apologize, but I can only give you two stars. I came here to get basketball shoes for my boy before his team started practicing. It was easy to find affordable options for the kid, and the staff was helpful in getting me different sizes for him to try on. It wasn't dirty or smelly in there, so it's a good spot. read more

I called looking for a pool that was on sale and the people over at Big 5 went above and beyond. I called about 5 minutes before closing but each person I spoke with was helpful, friendly and not rushed at all. The pool in stock was in storage but they brought it out the next day and helped us out to the car. While Yelp didn't have the greatest rating for this location, I experienced the type of service you would expect pre-covid. They seemed to have more racks available for sports apparel compared with the Alhambra location. This is the most convenient sporting goods store in the area. The prices are reasonable. At first I walked around the store and couldn't find what I was looking for. So I asked the employee at the counter and he was able to help. Depending on what you need, they have a good selection of brands. I took a while to decide which brand I wanted, but I eventually chose to purchase 2 different brands of balls. At the check out registers, they have marked floors for space between customers who are in line and plexiglass in front of the cash registers. Walked in around 5pm Saturday, not at all busy. We were not greeted or asked if needed assistance. The assistant manager, a big guy unboxing in the front (pretending to work) and a girl at the register chit chatting and laughing away. My husband and I go to the back to look at some fitness gloves and heavy bags, no workers around. We pick up a slip for a big item and take it to the girl at the register. She asks us is someone bringing it to you? We are like who would bring it to us, there is no one around in the back just the three of you here in the front. She tells us that we are supposed to tell someone to bring it from the back. At that point I'm so infuriated and I just calmly tell her, well you tell someone. She tells the big guy who was standing around pretending to work, he goes to the back and comes back to his boxes and says nothing to us. We are standing there for a bit, when finally the assistant manger asks us what we needed. He goes to the back and finds that they only have the display item and if we want that one. I asked him to call another location and he only found it in the Downey or el segundo location. They have a sale and have a bunch of the slips in the back for just the one display item in stock, so ridiculous. Customer service here leaves much to be desired. Why as a customer do I have to work so hard to get some assistance. If the employees don't want to help and just want to be lazy, then items should be easier to access. read more

Okay, so I needed a combination lock... my old one seized and I don't trust the goofballs at 24 Hour Fitness to not take off with my iPhone... so... needed to grab one today. I was close-by at Cook's Tortas so popped in. Wandered around a minute thinking they'd jump out at me, but they didn't. Went to the front counter and the girl working there sort of ignored me for a second. When I got her attention and asked where the locks were, she looked at me like I was a bit dumb for not knowing, and said "They SHOULD still be under the basketball nets..." (How could I possibly not have known that? I feel so foolish. Bad customer service from multiple managers. One of the managers Maria wouldn't even listen to me when I called and passed the phone to someone else. I had to explain the situation all over again. Another manager was trying to put the blame on me saying I didn't inspect the item I got thoroughly enough. I explained to him that I thought I was getting a brand new item not a display item. He said he would would call back and never did. I wouldn't go here. The managers aren't trained enough and couldn't even help me solve the problem that they created. They are insincere and unapologetic. I've been going to that location for years. But I will no longer shop there. read more

The manager was okay, drove all the way out from another location to pick up two duffles. I was told they had 6 in stock and when I got there they only had two in the front, one display and one inside of it. I asked if I could get a discount on the display model since it was opened and had dust on it. Manager said it wasn't a a display they had it out... not sure what that means but I didn't argue I took them both to the front. When I gave them to the cashier she quickly grabbed them and kept the New folded bag. Right in front of me she threw the "display" I wanted to buy across the counter to the pile of goods I'm sure people didn't want, and it rolled off getting even dirtier. I came in to look at some sporting goods. While looking at some items I asked for help to look at some knives which were locked up in a glass display case. The employee was rude from the start as my request to look at some items to potentially spend money seemed to have been a burden to her. While looking at knives, the knives were not clearly displayed with prices. I asked for clarification on the price and the manager couldn't even tell me which price was correct for the item I was looking at. She didn't even attempt to clarify the price so that I could give my money to the store. She was rude, obviously didn't want to be there or was having a bad day. I frequent this store and spend a little money here and there at this big 5. This individual experience has lost all of my business. I will never shop there again because one unprofessional employee did not care about the customer service she was providing. I understand that retail work is not glamorous and it probably pays a mediocre wage, but the world of retail which that employee chose as her career requires a minimal amount of people skills and positive communication. Hopefully the owner or regional manager corrects this type of attitude towards customers or this store will continue to lose customers. I am not the only one who encounters poor customer service at this location as other reviews here are pretty bad. When the worst customer service is provided by a manager, it is obvious that customer service and repeat business is not a concern of this location. read more

Definitely your average Big 5. Most of the time there isn't a lot that differentiates them. This would be that exact situation. They have it all here from Firearms and Ammo to Archery to Soccer to Snowboarding/Skiing to Hiking to everything! This store is layed out slightly different but it was well organized and the staff was somewhat friendly. It just took a few moments to get someones attention for a little bit of assistance. Pro Tip: You can sometimes purchase floor models at a slight discount ;) you didn't hear that from me, and if you don't negotiate, shame on you! However this was a quick stop for me and the munchkin. Just long enough for me to pick up a knife and the munchkin to swear that she wants to learn how to shoot a bow n arrow like Merida from the movie Brave. So with a quick checkout we were on our way. I have been a consumer of goods from Big 5 for many years, I can't even remember for how long. All these years, I have always been treated with respect by their employees and most times greeted as soon as I walk pass the front doors. However, today's experience really changed that. I understand that "we" are going through a tough stressful time in the world/nation but that's no excuse for anyone to be unprofessional or in a "bad mood," especially when the economy is beginning to reopen their doors. As I walked into this branch, I noticed the person monitoring the door was not welcoming at all. As the customers were waiting in line outside the doors, after a customer leaves, a customer would walk in and the line would move up. As this was occurring, I observed this person (looks like a manager) pointing at the spot marked before the door each time the line moved up. I thought to myself, we are all in "social distance" mode, we already know what to do so why are you treating us like idiots? Pretty sure when I got to the front of the line, he pointed at the floor marked, but I didn't look at him because I knew what I had to do (stand on the marked spot). Then I walked in, no greeting which is fine because it looked like the cashiers were busy. I walked up to the rifle counter and waited a little bit, nobody came to assist, so I walked back over to the person who looked like a manager and asked if somebody could help me. In an unfriendly manner, he pointed to the rifle area and told me to walk back to the counter and said somebody would help me. Soon enough, a Latin lady came to help me. I told her I wanted to look at the Benjamin Prowler. I broke the barrel in front of her and told her it's difficult to do and then I pressed the trigger (while pointing at the floor) to listen to the dB level. Immediately, the Latin lady told me it was against Big 5 policy to allow me to fire it. I responded with, well how would I know how difficult it is to break the barrel and the decibel level without doing so? She said, you have to do your research before you come in. I responded with, I did do my research, I just need to feel it (break the barrel) and hear how loud it is before I decide to purchase it. How would I know if I want to purchase it if I don't know what it's like?, I asked her. She responded, I don't know but it's against company policy to fire it in the store. I replied, I'm not trying to be difficult but I have been allowed to break the barrel and pull the trigger at other Big 5's but if that's what you're saying about this store, then I respect that. And then I asked if I could see another rifle (Gamo Swarm Maxxim) but before she could find it, the look-a-like manager stated (stern voice/mean tone), you can't break the barrel and dry fire it. I responded the same way I did to the lady, well how would I know how it feels to break the barrel and the decibel level before I decide to purchase it? He responded, I don't care you can't break the barrel and fire it in the store. Then I responded, I know that now, she just told me that. Then he said, you can't break the barrel and dry fire it or it will break the rifle. I responded, if you don't decompress the spring for the rifle, wouldn't that make it break? He repeated, you still can't break the barrel or dry fire it. Then I said, I heard that, she just told me. And then he said, well now I'm telling you! And he stood there, staring at me in a threatening manner. I had nothing else to say except, I heard it from her already, I don't need to hear it from you. Then he responded, yes you do! Then I said, No I don't. Then he said, well I just did (has not moved since his threatening manner). I was mad, I have never been treated like that by any retail stores in my life, so I said "what an idiot!" Then both of them kicked me out of the store. I'll admit, replying with "what an idiot!" was not nice but your look-a-like manager escalated the situation and brought it to that point. In this situation, I'm not 100% right, but I know I wasn't the one who took it to that level. This feels like "abusing authority," which given the circumstances is pretty common nowadays! read more

I came to this location looking for roller blades and honestly the worst big 5 location I've been to. When i went today (04/08/2020) @ 2:30pm there was a cashier at the front and when my bf was trying to buy these roller skates that were CLEARLY on sale cause we picked out the exact same pair that said it was on clearance... the price pulled up as the original price. So then we asked her if it's on sale and instead of her checking or asking someone to check in the first place she just said "no." So then we asked for them back and i went back to the sign and it literally said on sale. So i took a picture of the sign and tried to show her back at the register but she didn't even look at the picture and just replied "okay I'll just send someone to check cause it's not on sale. LIKE????? Then the employee goes back to check and she says "oh yeah it's on sale." Like you really couldn't check the first time and you're going to make me go back and forth and take a picture then come back when you COULD'VE JUST CHECKED IN THE FIRST PLACE INSTEAD OF BEING LAZY. Went into this store to grab some gym equipment. As I casually passed a person to get to the gym section, this person rudely says, "Next time walk around me". I figured she was a very cautious shopper until I realized she was an employee organizing women's clothes. As I kept shopping around the store I heard employees, including the rude one, complain about working there and costumers touching items. The energy there is horrible. I wanted to justify her tone since it's difficult to see face expressions with masks, but previous reviews say it all. When the same guy just started shaking his head and saying no. Who tf does that? Their customer service is ok. One worker saw me trying to reach for something up high with my 11 month old in my arms and my 7 year old watching. She didn't bother to ask if we needed help. It wasn't until I saw the manager and asked for help was when I got assistance. I'm surprised I wasn't asked if I needed help since every time I've gone to the Pico Rivera location I am always asked if I need assistance. Clearly not all stores are alike. Once I asked for help the manager was helpful. I removed 2 stars from my review. 1- for the lack of eagerness to assist a customer and 2- I believe it was possibly the assistant manager. An older female. Not super old but older. While waiting to pay there was another customer in front of me that questioned the cost of her item. Apparently there was a sale sign for the pair of baseball pants and the item was ringing up regular price. Instead of helping her she gave the customer a bit of an attitude. They were on the same rack with the sale sign and her answer to the customer was, well we don't have enough room so we put them all on the same rack with the sale price. Even though not everything on that rack was on sale. So possible false advertising which in California isn't taken lightly. I guess I'll stick to the Pico Rivera location from now on. read more
