Going shopping at the Big 5 on Rosecrans it's one store where candy many of the great bargains going to buy shoes on Friday . Arriving at the store finding many sales items when you only have so much money to work with it's hard . The cashier's and sales people greeted me for the shoe dept seeing the sales person walking behind sales clerk told are these the kind of shoes you are wearing . I asked him do you have a 13 wide I looked at the many brands and the prices they do have sone of the best rices you can't beat . For the store on Friday was minimal customers finding socks of the large size for $16.00 and the shoes that were $40.00 dollars on sale for $29.99 for the Rosecrans Store is one place that you can find many things on sale. The store managers asked me finding the sizes I told them they have great selection the wall display is one that has great variety. The one thing that caught my attention is the workers talking about not loving and clocking out that seemed very concerning yet the sales clerk didn't show much customer support . The Rosecrans store is one left cation you have many depts they do have firearms thatbisnone department that caught my eye was never interested into firearms . To see the many sales they had there for the store has the room to get around the Isles for those in a wheelchair clean displays and well priced the cashier area having the last minute impulse items for people to get . I picked up a pair of Dr. Scholl's walking shoes from this Big 5. I found what I wanted rather quickly on the shelve, but my size was not available beneath the shelf, so I had to ask the attendant for help. He retrieved my size quickly and was friendly as he did it. The girl at the fron register had a good sense of humor and was also friendly. The shoes were on a Memorial Weekend Special for $29.99 plus tax or $10 off the regular price. I thought it was a good deal. The store was well organized and stocked. read more

What's with this inventory? This store is located many miles away from any snow and they stock sleds and big winter coats. But there's no surf wax?! I asked and was nicely pointed towards some sort of snow or sled wax they had. When you are five minutes from the beach you might take that into account when stocking your shelves. Stock wax for surfboards sticky bumps/sex wax etc. in fact there should be a whole surfing section considering the location. I am sure I'm not the only surfer who's stopped in looking for wax. read more

Worst in customer service. I drove in to use a one day only coupon on all items including sale but not final sale. The 20 year guy at the register was rude and refused to scan the coupon. He said it will probably work but he's not going to do it. I told him I wasn't going to buy the item unless he honored the coupon. He smiled and said in a rude tone, " Now don't come back now!" I've been a long time customer of this shop. I spoke up and said I'll be back after they get rid of awful people like you. Came to this location to purchase some boxing gloves. They had exactly what I wanted but the storage mesh case it was sold in was damaged. I asked the sales associate if they could switch the gloves out with another package that was not damaged already. It would've been a very easy switch to do. They were unwilling to do it so I found exactly the same gloves on Amazon and purchased them there. This is why brick and mortar stores are failing. read more

I rarely write two 5-star reviews of a store, especially in the same year - however I so appreciate when I receive excellent service AND from different employees - as sometimes that is not always the situation. It seems like everything I want has been at the far rear of the store; in this case I wanted to purchase hand weights. I knew nothing about the various kinds of "dumbbells," "kettlebells," "barbells," and the other types of free weights - only that they were heavy and certainly not free. I needed a "bell-boy" to help out for sure! After asking a few gazillion questions of a former weight lifter, I went to the cashier with 30lbs of 'heavy' (Two- 5lbs, and two-10lbs) merchandise. I had another young man, Patrick, make sure I was happy with the exchange of one 10lb weight that was slightly damaged looking, and then he escorted me with it to my car to boot. read more

This is not my usual Big 5 store, but it is pretty good. I dropped by to get some ammo on sale and sure enough, they had some in stock. As Francisco efficiently rang up the sale, I asked about a Smith & Wesson watch that was marked down from $30 to $12. He told me a parable about a previous customer who asked for the same watch and was given a card to fill out which would result in a call to that customer's home when more inventory arrived. I took the bait and asked if I could do the same thing. Sure thing, and he whipped out the card for me to fill out. That was a bit strange, but at least I filled out the card. This is a claustrophobia-inducing store, with merchandise stacked everywhere, and almost no sight lines to other areas of the store. But I'm happy, I got my ammo on sale, and I just might get a call about a Smith & Wesson watch. read more

If I could giver this store ZERO stars I totally would. First of all they didn't have what I needed but that's besides the point. I arrived with my husband about 15 mins before closing, he was looking for a specific item where I was searching for some kind of lubricant for ball bearings. This one woman approached me and asked if I needed help, which I did, and she was very helpful; however, as I was perusing the last section of store just to make sure I didn't forget about anything, she called to my attention very rudely that I needed to get out it was closing time. ** Side note:I get that these are stained times for everyone including patience, at least she has a job** She said it so rudely that I asked her "ummm would you prefer I just leave without buying my intended purchases? I did just travel from downtown just to make here for your store" She with the same attitude says she "doesn't give a fuck what I do" Ooooook there is a distinct line that an employee does Not Cross with a paying customer. I got upset and defended myself "no one, including yourself, will speak to me that disrespectfully. I'm doing a yelp review on this place." She went over to some other coworker and was pointing and starting directly at me then when he coworker was done speaking she looked at me again and said "well that checks out". I asked her if she was talking about me and she again said something crazy like "mind your own fuckin business" After our purchase she walked us to the door to lock the store up for the night. And very quietly she said under her breath that's she'll be waiting for me ... I said something then and there to management I wanted to call the cops and report this misconduct. My husband even heard her say it and confirmed it, but she reneged and said I needed to "clean out my mangeled ears" (which is STILL wrong because one of my ears was severed in an accident) She said to go ahead she didn't care but honestly it's raining and needed to catch my trolley back downtown before curfew. I hated the way she made me feel, again I understand she's probably under a lot of stress and I hear all kinda stores are getting ripped off but I BUY my thing that I need. To act that ugly to a regular paying customer is weird and felt like she was trying to intimidate me. This is what our society as "professionals" is coming to? I have never really gone to a Big 5 Sporting goods before but it reminded me of the old Sporting Goods Store (except for the bbq grill on the front) It's on a strip mall with Big Lots, West Marine and See's Outlet store. So if you want cheap clothes, stuff for your dinghy, chocolates that are a bit staler, then you are on the right mall. Oh and there is a BK in the corner for food. Sports Arena strip malls look like they have been through a lot and this is no exception. The Big 5 store itself is compact with most goods available you need for your Sporting event whether its water, land or air (guns). Yes did I mention guns. I haven't seen so many guns since I passed an armory. Well I guess it's a sport but if I ever need a gun, I know where to go. Now that I know this place is here, it might be the best place to go if I need some jock cup or other sport clothing. And I can get my BK burger too with See's chocolates as dessert! read more

I guess the best thing I can say about this store is that it's big. I'm just still struggling to figure out how a store that's so large can lack so in the product arena. It's not like we went in there looking for some obscure, unheard-of piece of sporting equipment. We went in looking for a bicycle helmet and a pair of men's golf shoes. There were maybe four or five different adult-sized bicycle helmets. They ranged from hideous to "Yep, I'd be embarrassed to be seen in this". They had some really cool looking kids' helmets, but you try squeezing an adult melon into a helmet designed for a child! Their golf shoe selection was even worse, but at least they had a couple there to look at, which is more than I can say for some other establishments I could name. *cough*SportsChalet!*cough* I don't think their prices are exactly competitive, but the only thing I've ever bought from them was a pair of 5-pound weights. We passed on the offensive helmets, and couldn't buy golf shoes as they didn't have the size (or, frankly, the style) that we were looking for. All in all, this isn't a store I'd frequent without a very, very good reason. We had to flag down someone to help us find the golf shoes, and when we turned to ask that person, "Are these all the shoes you have?" we found that he had taken off as soon as we saw the shelf in question. read more

I've been to this store twice and the 2nd time I went the guy that works there, I'm guessing he's the manager since he was wearing a black slacks and a button down. Any way I go in and head directly to what I'm looking for. He yells at me "what are you looking for today?" There is really no need to yell. All I said is I'm fine, thanks. He follows me to different parts of the store. I guess I can't walk around the store. Now I'm in the back, but I don't see what I'm looking for so I head to the door. He cuts me off and says "did you find what you were looking for?" I told him no but that's ok. He then gets in front of me and says "are you ready to get checked out?" I'm confused as I just told him I didn't find what I was looking for. So I said "what?" When he repeated I told him "I told you I didn't get anything". I love Big 5 stores. They have a great selection on outdoor and sporting goods. Plus they have weekly sales on various items. Great place to purchase shoes. The outdoor and workout clothing section is also a plus. I'm a big husky guy and they carry big man sizes. I like this location near sports arena. It's bigger than most locations. The parking is huge and never an issue. The employees are outgoing and helpful. This day I was looking to by an annual fishing license. I usually buy my running shoes here because they have killer sales. I suppose they have other stuff too, but never what I need or am looking for! My biggest gripes are: -- They never carry the same shoes consistently; it makes me think that they probably get end-of-season stuff and sell it off at rock-bottom prices ... which is fine ... unless you're wanting to buy another pair of the same shoe you've recently fallen in love with! -- Their customer service sucks. Like a Hoover. I once had to literally follow a person around and physically hold onto him to get him to help me...and I had been standing right next to him saying, "Excuse me ... excuse me ... hi, can I get some help ..."
