Went to Big Bar Saturday night, May 12th. It's a very nice little bar. Very cool and modern decor. The owner Kevin Bryan was very friendly and the bartenders were working their tails off due to the crowd. I've been back after work through the week and it is very laid back and comfortable. With the garage door open you have a great view of busy Bardstown Rd. There is also very nice out door seating. I highly recommend this place. Greaty location, good service, good mix of people. read more

I was NOT impressed. I arrived at this dump, was left standing for a good amount of time at the bar and when the bartender finally looked my way I had to flag him down for a drink. To begin with, when I walked in this small bar was filled and a fat black dude and a skanky white girl were trying to dance sexy blocking my walking in. They wouldn't move to let me probably because they were so drunk they didn't notice anyone else around them. I drank the one drink I bought and as I was walking out a guy said, "Hi, cutie!" to me. I told him that I was pissed, leaving and told him why. He happened to be the owner and I told him his bar sucked then turned around and walked out. read more

Was here 3xs in one week! Drinks are cheap AND excellent. Bar tenders were also really friendly. It's one of those neighborhood bars where people actually interact with people they don't know. I know it's technically listed as a gay bar but they let us straights slip by if we're well-behaved ;) I really enjoyed the DJ on Thursday night. read more

Big Bar has cheap drinks and a great atmosphere! The only downfall of Big Bar is that despite it's name it is actually quite small inside. The lines for the restroom are long and you can't get from one side of the bar to the other without walking over someone or having your drink spilled. read more

Easily tied for my favorite bar in the city. Every weekend night, this place is hopping. While the name is rather tongue in cheek due to the small size of the establishment, you won't mind mingling with the crowd. My advice? Always go for the slushie of the night. You can never got wrong. Whether it is bourbon and orange (my fave), vodka lemonade, a nutty Irishman, or any of their other wonderful concoctions, they are all delicious! My view is solely based on the one time I went to this bar on a VERY busy night. This place is really small. It's hard to move around if there's anyone inside, like panic attack close to you. It has a little patio/smoking area, but it's fenced in & also gets very crowded. The bathroom is a weird set up of a door, then a room with a urinal & then a small closet with a toilet. On a positive note, a diet coke & bourbon was like 3.88 & great! read more

A great bar that attracts a different crowd as the night goes on. Early in the day it has an older crowd that come in for happy hour. Later in the night the crowd gets younger and the bar can get so packed you can't even move. read more

I love this bar! Great drinks, and great bar tenders. We attended a derby party last year here, and watched the bar tender literally mix 20 Juleps in under 60 seconds. They always have great decorations, no matter what the event is. I really enjoyed their "Safe Haven" check point during the Louisville Zombie walk this year. We were out with some friends after dinner at the Bristol, just looking for a place to hang out and have a drink and some conversation. We wandered into Big Bar and ended up staying for several rounds. The outdoor seating was comfy and plentiful, the crowd was friendly and outgoing and we were able to have a conversation without being overwhelmed by loud music. The only downside for this vinophile was an almost non-existant wine list--ironic since they are right next door to one of the best wine ships in Louisville! read more

The friend I was meeting was sitting at a table near the entrance, I walked past you to greet him. Before I had a chance to say hello you came up behind me, dragged me by my arm, out of your bar and to the sidewalk. The force you used bordered on violent, my arm was sore for several hours. I re-entered your bar in a bit of shock, hoping to find help from the management. Ten years working as a bartender in my youth told me that you were more than likely a drunk trying to start trouble, nothing else made sense. You know the rest of the story, you had mistaken me for a homeless panhandler, once you realized your mistake, this was your excuse. It was shocking to discover that I had been treated this way by a business owner. I've spent a lot of time going over this scenario. I found myself in a place of gratitude for having been in the shoes of a homeless man for a brief moment. I'm not particularly selfless, I don't think about the homeless all that much, but after being humiliated, dehumanized and subjected to your rage, in fear for my safety, with you trying to force me to explain myself while offering no explanation for what you had done, I couldn't help but think about this despised class of human beings and what they must go through on a daily basis. I thank you for this experience that has made me a bit more aware. It felt as though a law had been broken, it doesn't seem that it should be legal for us to accost each other if we just don't like the looks of someone. After talking to the police, the KY Commission on Human Rights and Legal Aid, I found that there's not much to be done. The justice system, if not the law, favors you in this scenario. You're lucky, had I been injured, had you ripped my rotator cuff or twisted my hip or ankle, and the force you used could have easily led to these consequences, you might be facing an assault charge. The police told me that as it stands, you could possibly be charged with a crime under 'physical harassment' or 'menacing' but that it would be difficult to prosecute despite the witnesses I've contacted who are as outraged as I am. I am not seeking revenge, it would not give me pleasure to see you handcuffed or facing a lawsuit, but I do feel strongly that this incident should go on record. A letter in the media is my only recourse outside of a civil lawsuit and I don't have the time or the desire to pursue that. I want this incident to be public knowledge partly because you hold a liquor license and own a business in the Highlands which is a small island of progressivism in a sea of southern conservatism that gives me pride. The only district in the entire state that voted a majority in favor of gay marriage in 2004 when our state constitution was changed by popular vote to prevent us from gaining equal rights. You own a gay bar, you are the face of the LGBT community in Louisville, you represent me in a way and I feel that it's entirely possible you will do this again. If you are regretful of your actions, I suspect it's only because you mistook a customer for a panhandler, not because you feel you have the right to treat a homeless person as subhuman. I have no issue at all with a business owner's right to ask someone to leave their establishment for panhandling. If resistance is given, you have the right to take other measures, hopefully by using the police department. You did not ask me to leave. You didn't even speak to me. My clothes were new and clean, I showered recently, I did not ask anyone for money, I was there to spend money, I approached a table to join a friend. Within seconds of walking into your bar, quite sober, I was pulled forcefully out into the street. I was only guilty of being middle aged with a grey beard, I see no other way to explain your reaction to me. read more

Was wonderful place. The Staff is nice. The atmosphere is great. I even got a bit of a show from a guy and his "girlfriend" Loved sitting outside and enjoying my scotch, people watching. The music is loud, but good and not overly obnoxious. Ill head back the next time I'm in Louisville. read more

Which would have been fine except there was only a single chair (the only other tall table had 2 chairs so there's obviously a mismatch of types of tables and chairs--unless they serve a lot of people who drink alone?). At any rate, the bartender would not allow an inside chair to be moved outside. I told him I don't like to drink standing up. He was unmoved. So we moved...down the street to another bar. read more
