We were in town from KC, Missouri, and couldn't pass up on Sidebar after reading other reviews. Anna was amazing and great service. We had a wonderful experience. The food was AMAZING!!! What a fun, clean, place. Thank you for a great experience!

I wasn't originally planning on writing a review for Sidebar but after finishing my dinner I decided I needed to because the burger was so great. I started with an order of 4 mozzarella sticks because I saw them on a table I walked past coming in. They turned out to be some of the best I've had in a while. Perfectly cooked and they come with a large side of marinara sauce, which is a welcome change from many restaurants that give you a skimpy side of marinara. Back to the burger. Over the past few years I've been disappointed by thicker burgers, and have mostly ordered smash burgers. I took a chance with this thicker burger at Sidebar and I'm glad I did. I ordered it medium well and it came out perfectly cooked and was even tender and juicy despite ordering it that way. I just ordered the normal burger, but they have a large selection of specialty burgers that I will definitely try next time I'm in town. The restaurant itself has a nice decor, cozy and welcoming. I sat in the bar area and the only have a couple comments on how it could have been better. All of the barstools, even at the high top tables, don't have seatbacks on them. Although the cushions were very comfortable, sometimes it's nice to have a seatback to rest on. The only other weird thing was, although they had a lot of TVs, they were all playing really random and weird programs. One was the news, one was food network, two were different women's softball games, and one was paramount network with some boring Hallmark-style movie on. I was watching the NCAA baseball college World Series in my phone and probably could have asked to them to change one of the TVs to the game, so I won't fault them for me not asking to change the channel...but maybe the server could have obviously seen me watching it on my phone and asked if I would like one of the TVs changed. Besides that, the service was friendly, prompt, and attentive the entire time I was there. I'm glad I stopped in and would definitely come back again next time I'm visiting Louisville.

Excellent and friendly service at the bar! Went in looking for something to snack on mid-day during a conference trip. The bartender gave great recommendations from the menu. The Mozzerella sticks and fritters were some of the best I've ever had. The crispy salad was full of a variety of vegetables and very tasty. It could have used a little more dressing but was great none the less. I got there during half priced glasses of wine. I would definitely recommend Sidebar.

Had some clients for a casual dinning experience. Reservations were easy online, we showed up 15 minutes early and needed to add a couple more to the group, Lissa, easily accommodated us. We had a sampler plate of appetizers it was great. I got the side bar cheeseburger, I'm a bit of a cheeseburger snob, so I don't usually have high expectations. They make their burger from blend of Certified Angus Beef with chuck, brisket, and short rib. I will say it may be the best flavored burger I've had. Friendly staff quick service and fair prices. Local or visitor do yourself a favor and go here.

My friends and I stopped for lunch at Sidebar on Whiskey Row. We didn't have a reservation and the place was crowded, but we were still able to get a high-top table near the bar. It was definitely loud, but we were able to carry on our conversation without any issues. We all ordered burgers, and they were good overall. The drinks, however, were nothing special. That said, everything was reasonably priced for the location. Overall, it was an okay experience, but I probably wouldn't return if I had other options.

This place was recommended by one of the locals. We decided to check it out and boy we weren't disappointed. Love the theme of this bar and the food. The burgers were cooked to perfection and their fries too! Don't forget to also check out their cocktails. I love their 1910 Brown Butter Old Fashion. They offer a great selection of burgers and I know that you won't go wrong with any of the favorites. If you're in town, i highly recommend to check em out!

A delicious place for a quick meal - with great service! We sat at the hightops near the bar for a Friday lunch - and the bartender was hilarious and provided great service. I opted for one of their salads, topped with a burger and my friend got a burger. Both were delicious! I also had a few whiskey sours which were made perfectly.

Good food. I got the crunch salad with blackened chicken as well as the jack bites. All good, but the crunch salad was better than the jack bites. Mostly because I don't love sauerkraut :)

This place was great. You walk down the hill of Whiskey Row and find this hidden gem. Burgers are their specialty. They have many different burgers, mostly with a legal theme. You could get just a regular burger, but with the great options I wanted to try something else. I had the hung jury burger with parmesan truffle fries. This was a thick burger, cooked to a perfect medium. Grilled mushrooms and onions topped with beer cheese. The flavors mixed wonderfully. The fries were served with aioli on the side for doing, this was great as you could use less or more depending on your preference. Great place for a quick dinner.

Came here before one of the festival days. AMAZING. Quickly got seated and got our drinks. **They have $5 pour specials on Fridays (must inquire). ** Dive bar feel, with delicious food. For the appetizer we ordered beer cheese and pretzel bites, hot and so good. The beer cheese was rich, a little runny, but left you wanting more. I love that it also came with chips. Didn't wait too long for food. We all ordered burgers, all cooked to medium unless otherwise specified I got the standard burger, lettuce tomato red onion mayo cheese. Wonderful, juicy patty. Loved the bun, and we shared Cajun fries. They had multiple variations of fries. My friend said sweet potato were best she's ever had!! Friend ordered Gouda burger (on side menu) with an egg. Looked amazing, she said it tasted great. Husband ordered bacon cheeseburger. Crispy thick bacon, perfectly cooked. Overall, perfect dive bar atmosphere, friendly service, quick, and delicious!!

Our second visit here. I think we both ordered the exact same meals as last time. That's how good they were. We didn't want to change a thing. Service was great, too! I love this place.

We wanted food while spending the morning and afternoon at the chow wagon and didn't want to eat vendor food. So we walked to the Sidebar. We opted to sit outside on the patio which entailed ordering food at the bar and having it brought to us. We split a burger, fries and cole slaw and i always request hot fries or i will send them. The fries were cold but they did bring hot ones upon request. The slaw was nasty and inedible. They switched that out for brocolli which was steamed and buttered, served hot and delicious. Cool setting. So many differnt nooks and crannies for seating. Be sure and out the patio, which is a small, narrow spave betwern two brick walls. We had the area to ourselves and it's cool out there

TLDR: The ultimate cocktail lounge experience on the Bourbon Trail. Skip the tour if you're burnt…read moreout and just belly up to the gorgeous top floor bar for world class drinks and free corn nuts. My group of four decided to wrap up our epic Bourbon Trail weekend at Michter's Fort Nelson Distillery right before heading to the airport. Having already hit six other distilleries over the weekend, we were completely "toured out" and opted to bypass the standard distillery tour. Instead, we headed straight upstairs to the bar and it was the best decision. We happened to visit right at the start of Derby week, so the entire building was alive and buzzing. Because of the festivities, they were highlighting their own rendition of the Derby fan favorite Mint Julep. I had to get one, and it did not disappoint. It was well crafted, perfectly balanced, and served in the classic, frost chilled sterling silver cup. Easily one of the best Juleps I've ever had. The bar area itself is beautifully appointed, sitting on one of the top floors of the historic building with a great atmosphere. A massive bonus: they offer patrons free bar snacks. The seasoned corn nuts were an absolute hit at our table, to the point where we had to ask for seconds (and they happily obliged!). Service was fantastic from start to finish. Despite the Derby week crowds, our water glasses were never empty and the cocktails came out incredibly fast. Whether you are doing a full day of tours or just want a world class drink in a stunning setting, Michter's is a phenomenal addition to any Louisville itinerary.

I enjoyed the Revival Cathedral and Rhubarb Revelation specialty cocktails made with Heaven's Door Whiskey. Both were refreshing and went down smoothly. Luckily, I found a seat at the bar because someone was just leaving when I arrived. Bartender was welcoming, friendly, helpful and attentive all while serving back to back customers. The decor, stained glass, chandeliers, and walls filled with bottles was really cool to see. Great ambiance for small or large groups. Tons of seating at bar, tables, and comfy side chairs. The soaring ceilings, stained glass, and echoes of what the building once was make you pause and reflect. But then "Break On Through (To the Other Side)" came on, the drinks started flowing, the energy shifted, and suddenly you stop overthinking and simply admire the beauty of the space and what it has become. The atmosphere is stunning, moody, and unlike anywhere else. We originally ordered one of their signature drinks only to find out they couldn't serve it after the order was placed, but Alain handled it well and made things right with 30% off, which was appreciated. Also, huge thanks to Sean and Mike working security. Walk-ins were completely full for the night, and honestly without their help and kindness we probably never would've gotten a reservation. They treated us incredibly well and set the tone for a great evening. A memorable experience, beautiful setting, and a place that somehow balances reverence, history, and nightlife all at once.

During an early 2025 trip to Washington, D.C., we went to multiple establishments and, coincidentally or not, encountered this specific bourbon and just loved it. The most notable occurrence was at Jack Rose Dining Saloon, where I had literally the best Old-Fashioned I've ever had, using a special Angel's Envy that hung out in some sherry barrels for a while. Since then, we've both regularly ordered it when given the opportunity, and ultimately decided that the best way to appreciate this fine spirit was to go right to the source. So to the mothership we went. My chum did most of the heavy lifting here and scheduled a bourbon tour with Louisville Food Tours (very strong recommend) that featured Angel's Envy at the first stop. It's hard to really put into words what this building looks like as you walk in and explore, but it's just so...nice. It's classy without being inaccessible, and it just felt like a true cathedral of bourbon. As tasteful as the bourbon it makes. During our initial tour, we were probably in the distillery for a solid half hour plus, getting a quick tour of the still and fermenters before being led into a side room on the second floor to formally taste some bourbon. Paula was our guide, both during this tour and later on, and was just enormously impressive, which I touched upon in my review of the official tour as well. She's no-nonsense and loves her bourbon - who can't relate? We learned how to inspect the bourbon in the glass, to take a test sip to numb the pain receptors and to truly appreciate the subtle notes in the bourbon with the second sip. It was legitimately helpful, useful information that we're both going to utilize going forward. After our three-hour tour ended (go hard or go home), it wasn't even much of a discussion - we came back here for a few hours to soak in more of the atmosphere and drink some more bourbon. At this point, it was probably close to 5ish but the place was still pretty busy; somehow we were able to secure spots at the bar upstairs and made ourselves at home. I wish I could remember the name of our bartender (blame the time that has elapsed, not the bourbon), but he was very good, social without being oppressive and was just present and let us do our thing. After sipping straight bourbon for most of the afternoon, I switched to the Bourbon Renewal, which you'll be shocked to know includes Angel's Envy but is a more summer, fruit-forward cocktail and super refreshing. Was the right call and hit the spot. (We also got waters because that's the responsible thing to do.) We finally went back downstairs to the gift shop, which doesn't feel like the right term - it was more majestic than something you'd walk into after going through, say, a museum for an hour or two. It's enormous and offers numerous bourbons and also some very high quality swag. We reunited with our chum Paula and sampled their limited edition two-grain, which was created due to a fortunate mistake in which the rye wasn't added so it's just the corn and malted barley. You CAN see the difference and taste it; to me at least, it's more caramel-y than their normal single barrel. We each bought a bottle to bring back to the homeland. My chum basically bought half the store, but I remained calm/deliberate and my only other purchase was a MAGNIFICENT black hoodie. I'm not kidding - I love hoodies and have probably owned dozens over the years, and this is literally the best quality one I've had. It has this interesting front pouch pocket design with like a pocket within the pocket for high-priority items like your ID or credit cards, and the hood itself is interesting. It's just really good and I wore it all day the next day as we slowly made our way back to the East Coast. It's been washed and carefully placed in my closet, where it will reign supreme when the weather inevitably turns nippy again. It's not an exaggeration to say we probably spent hundreds of dollars (at least not thousands) directly and indirectly involving Angel's Envy on this trip. Worth it.

It could just be mediocre pub food, but the food here is very, very good. I don't know why, but when I'm in the south, I get the hankering for a deviled egg. So we started with the deviled eggs (Los Huevos El Diablo), which, despite the name, were not super spicy. They had just the right amount of spice. One thing to know about me is: If I see a patty melt on the menu, I will order that. So I got the Merle's Melt, which is a burger patty with cheddar and Monterey jack cheese, plus bacon and special sauce on buttered toast. It was sublimely tasty! It comes with house-made chips, which were good. They also offer tacos on the menu. One of my children got one steak taco and one chicken taco. The tacos are topped with tomato, lettuce and cojita cheese. I was told that these were very good! My kid eats like a bird, but ate one and a half tacos, so that must say something, right? The Lip Smack'n Mac & Cheese was also ordered, as well as the fried chicken, because the menu says that the fried chicken is award-winning, so how could we not? The fried chicken was super crispy and tasty, and the mac and cheese was creamy and made with large shells, which is the best kind of pasta to use for mac and cheese (in my opinion). The service was great, the lighting was great, and we were seated quickly, even though they seemed busy. It was a good place to have a family dinner in Louisville.

The best food I had in Louisville and maybe anywhere in 2026 - we ate here 4 times in our short 2…read moreday trip. Breakfast: simple yet served quickly and a large portion. The American breakfast had large potato pieces, good sausage, and made to order eggs. Hot coffee was on the better side for hotel coffee. Dinner: they were super accommodating, as we were traveling with a friend with an infant. I called ahead to let them know we would come in with a stroller, and they made sure to sit us in an area where the stroller was not in the way of servers or other guests. Our server was one of the most attentive people I have ever met, and every recommendation they gave was fantastic. We started with the oyster rockefellar and the spicy tuna tartare. The oysters were massive and the tuna dish was so good, we got it a second time later in the weekend. We all got steaks for our mains and added a lobster tail - there was a mix up with the lobster tail taking a bit and they ended up bringing out the largest lobster tail to make up for it. All steaks, their sides, and sauces were fantastic- better than most I have had in the DC area. The food was all rich so under order or share amongst friends. Cocktails were of course fantastic, from espresso martinis to the famous smoked old fashions. We had drinks at the bar another night and the service was just as good, though they did tell us that they didn't serve the drink in a smoke box when we certainly had one just a night before.

Wow it's hard to get a reservation at Repeal on a Saturday evening, even early, and even several…read moremonths out. It's a nice hotel, and a pleasant steakhouse, but not sure it demands quite that much love. Most importantly, they don't know how to cook a steak. The flavor is spot on, you can really taste the wood fire, and the steaks are seasoned well. But the wife ordered a filet medium and it came out blood rare. My medium rare strip was presented rare, which I'm ok with, though it was noticeably still a bit more cooked than her "medium" filet. Having to return a steak to get it cooked properly, at an apparently well respected upscale steakhouse, is a disappointment, a big bump in the middle of a pleasant evening. We started with the oysters rock, which were quite good, and quite large. The french onion soup was a nice classic version. We split an heirloom tomato salad, and each still got two very large and thick slices of tomato, making the split a good sized salad for each of us. The balsamic pearls were a treat. An unexpected pleasure were the parker house rolls. Yum. Though between enjoying them, with the split salad, splitting the oysters, and the soup, we'd clearly over ordered! Repeal is a pleasant fine dining spot in the midst of the Louisville downtown action. They just need to learn how to cook steaks to temp before they rise to a truly 5 star destination.

We were seated immediately on their enclosed back porch with a beautiful roaring fire in their corner fireplace. Lovely! Our server was efficient, drinks and complimentary bread and butter were served quickly. Their small, one basket serving of bread and dabby do of butter was not enough for our table, but they honored our request for more. My Caesar Salad was crispy fresh and hit the spot. I ordered the appetizer Spicy Fried Oysters served over grits as my entree. The 6-7 oysters were fried perfectly crispy, not too spicy, and the creamy parmesan grits were a nice accompaniment. This appetizer really was the right entree portion for me.

The restaurant serves it with garlic haricot verts but I do not recall making those, however I wish we would have bc they are my favorite! After this I really couldn't wait to see what else they offered. Their menu rotates seasonly so some of these items are not currently available since we were there in the summer however from looking through their instagram I really hope they will be back!! We stoped in on a random Saturday night and was surprised to be able to grab two seats at the bar however there is always so much going on in Louisville in the summer. The bartender was rather busy but he was very friendly and personable throughout our entire experience. We ordered a couple drinks and the Feta and Hot Honey starter. It came with a generous portion of Feta, drizzled with Hot Honey, fresh sliced Jalapeño, prosciutto, and I believe macadamia nuts (not 100% sure) .... SO GOOD!!! My husband ordered the Cheese Tortellini which is fresh pasta, filled with a blend of Wisconsin cheese and herbs, tossed in a mushroom and spinach cream sauce that is finished with pine nuts and basil pesto. He really enjoyed it as I was only able to grab a few bites. It was rich, creamy and delicious. I ordered the Chilean Salmon over broccolini which was topped with cucumber and onion and drizzled with a vinaigrette I believe and this was hands down the best salmon I've ever had. I am extremely picky when it comes to seafood so I do not say that lightly. I also ordered a side of mashed potatoes which I really didn't need and honestly didn't eat much of bc my Salmon was so good. We were too stuffed for dessert but have heard they are pretty famous for their Bourbon's Bread Pudding which is custard soaked bread, bourbon caramel, dried dark cherries soaked in bourbon syrup so I will definitely be trying that next time!
