Asked about the happy hour specials and I felt beer at 4 bucks a bottle is a bit pricey for Louisville. Chill continues to be a favorite spot for cocktails and conversation for my friends and I. The remodeled space since they removed the tree out front is amazing. Modernized yet fun and plenty of seating. It's awesome to sit outside to enjoy the weather and people watching. The back patio offers a bit less traffic but ample seating too and music is pumped overhead. Inside offers a small dancing area, bar seating and another bar. The staff was great the night we visited. They scan your card, hand it back and will close it out with a 20% tip (if you forget to close it). This is perfect so that you don't have to grab your card before leaving. Late hours. Periodic trivia. Fair prices for drinks. Sometimes karaoke. Parking can be touch because it's in the Highlands and only street parking is available. read more

Chill bar is definitely very chill. Ha! Pun intended. We came on a rainy evening so it wasn't extremely busy. They were doing trivia for Golden Girls though, which seemed to attract a bit of a crowd. We were sitting indoors but them moved outside since we weren't doing trivia. The bartender was nice! Did a great job handling the drinks. The drinks were a bit watered down though... Prices were reasonable which was definitely a plus. Couldn't exactly tell who was the staff here as many people greeted and talked to us. Very friendly here! Loved the outdoor portion though. What a cool spot, indoors and out. We went to see the band, Most Wanted play on the outdoor patio. We found on street parking with not much trouble for a week night at 7 pm. We as well as everyone else were carded upon entry. The outdoor space is just lovely, not a big space but table and chair seating in the front, side and in the back of the bar. The inside was also very cool. This is a gay bar but there were plenty of non gay patrons. We did not feel out of place at all, totally accepting crowd. Drinks were $5 for top shelf liquors. Loved the vibe and the band was awesome. Fun to sit on Bardstown Road and listen to live music, watch people on the street and have a drink. Highly recommend. read more

Popped into this establishment on a whim. Heard a song I liked and seemed like great ambiance. It was a rainy midweek evening and ended up staying many hours. The bartender Michael made excellent Old Fashioned. We enjoyed it so much and told they were having an event on Friday and invited us to come back. So we did. Now on a Friday it was far more lively even though it was another rainy night, and the great cocktails continued. They had a really great selection of bourbons as well which was a nice surprise. They also have a patio bar in the front of the building and had one last drink while waiting for our Uber. read more

My partner and I made an impromptu stop here during Bardstown Rd Aglow just before Christmas. We were drawn in by the amazing light displays and the sound of Christmas carols being rehearsed just outside the bars doors. We had spent a nice evening shopping and eating our way down Bardstown Rd and were in desperate need of a holiday drink. Chill Bar did not disappoint. I had a lovely Tipsy Apple Martini garnished with an old fashioned caramel cream and my partner had a tasty alcohol infused slushy. The bar was tastefully decorated for the holidays and the atmosphere was inviting, festive, and friendly. We especially enjoyed the inclusive vibe. I have to thank Anthony, Chill Bar's resident authority on bourbon, for taking so much time to share his expertise with me and for turning me on to a rare bourbon I would not have otherwise had the chance to taste. I figured it was time to update my review from a couple of years ago since I have been there so often and have reclaimed my status as "Duke." Chill Bar is my spot. There I said it. There aren't many other bars I would rather go to on any night of the week because these bartenders just get it. If you want a beer, right up, you want a great tasting cocktail? Excellent. You want some laughs on a slow night? These boys gotchu! I like to say that there are the 3 R's of Chill Bar that are my personal favorite whenever I go: Richard, Roger and Ryan. Thanks to my boyfriend my palette has evolved to enjoy a good Manhattan (up) and it's one of those drinks that's super simple, but if you don't do it right it either tastes like vermouth, or like you just ordered bourbon shaken in a cocktail mixer. These three get it right every time, even on busy AF nights. I commend them for that and because of that when I see one of these three working I always get into their line. Saying that however, I don't have a problem with any of the bartenders there, you just develop a preference over time. Each one of them are great at making special cocktails, getting your beer and whatever else you may need on your night out. Recently they renovated the back of the bar to have a nice enclosed patio with fans, and plenty of seating since the inside is kind of cramped on busy nights, this gives you another place to hangout if you don't wanna be out at the front of the bar. It's gorgeous and I heard that they are working on doing some out there, but wasn't able to see talk with anyone about it last time I was there because it was busy and on busy nights, you don't wanna hold up your bartender with chatter so they can make that money and you don't want people getting impatient behind you because they can't get a drink. Hopefully we'll see more details coming with that very soon though. I already said it, Chill Bar is the place I want to be on any night of the week that I am going somewhere. Matter of fact, nine times out ten we end up here by the end of the night no matter where we started. You can pretty much expect to see me here anytime that I am out and about on any given night. Energetic but relaxing. Upbeat but...chill. Love coming to Chill Bar! It's always a good time and always full of good people. The staff is great here. Knowledgeable about their cocktails. I've never had a drink I didn't love. I've tried many of their signature cocktails over the years and enjoyed them all. From dry to sweet, they really know how to craft a great drink. And friendly as well. The patio is great. Always packed and hopping. The outside bar is busy but they're quick to get the drinks out. The patio can get a little packed sometimes. On busier nights you'll struggle to find elbow room. But the folks here are fun and you'll meet good people. Not too many seats, so move around and make friends. Love the shade from the giant tree out front and the decorations you'll often see on the patio on big nights. The scene inside is more upbeat than the patio. The DJ is always great and the light show keeps people dancing. I've only experienced Chill Bar on the weekends so I can't speak to the weekdays - but it's always a blast on Friday and Saturday. Among the gay bars in Louisville, or elsewhere, it's one of the best. And the relaxed but vibrant patio makes it a little different than some other options. Definitely recommend! read more

The bar scene in the Highlands has changed so much over the last decade. I was a huge fan of the old Highlands Taproom. Then it moved to where it's located now and after multiple visits, it'll never be the same. Chill Bar is quickly becoming a favorite bar that I'd visit any night of the week. With all the options in the Highlands, you'd think it would be hard to choose a place to go. If I want great high percentage beer, I'm headed to Holy Grale. If I want my favorite beer place in the city, I'm headed to the other end of the Highlands to Great Flood. If I want to go somewhere that will have inexpensive drinks with one of the friendliest crowds, I go to Chill Bar. There are countless good things about Chill Bar including inexpensive drinks, friendly bartenders, drink specials, happy hour specials, a great patio to watch people walking/driving through the Highlands, and a crowd that's there to have a good time. You're not going to run into any weirdos here. It is a Gay Bar and if that freaks you out in any way, then leave your hate at home. People are people. I've been there with my girlfriend, nights where the Derby City Bears are holding an event, and nights with other straight friends. I've never had a bad experience there. One other thing that is a major plus in my eyes is that you can actually hear and speak to the bartenders without having to scream at them. Went for Trivia night..... Will never go again..... It is essentially fixed.... If you don't go there all the time and are in with people they're not gonna overlook people cheating.... This was my 1st time at chill bar, so I didn't know what to expect. When my friends and I got there, there was no one at the entrance to card us (it was around 1030p), Myself a person of color (poc) and 2 other friends 1 other poc of color went to the the bathroom as soon as we walked in, they have 1 bathroom with a single toilet (didn't know this at the time obviously since I haven't been here before) but us being good friends, it wasn't a big deal and we just took turns using the bathroom. Upon exiting the "security" i say that because they had on security shirts but seemed drunker then we were and didn't really look like security, tells us we need to leave. My friend got upset asking why we had to leave, and he wouldn't give us a reason, he said we need to leave, after a few minutes of arguing, the 2nd guy said it was a private establishment and they dont have to have a reason to kick us out, after pushback for an explanation as to why, then he said it's because we didn't show our ID's (they could've just asked for at that point we would've been happy to share) at which point by the way, we were at the entrance again and another guy was standing there and we asked who was checking ID's and this customer said he didn't work there and the guy who was at the door was on break, after hearing this they then said it was because there was 3 of us in the bathroom (which there was no signs that said there couldn't be more the 1 person in the bathroom at the time). Mind you there was not a SINGLE person or staff member in the bar who was a POC. I absolutely HATE playing the race card so please don't misunderstand and I wasn't going to write a review about it, but the more i think back on the situation, with 2 black guys walking into a all white establishment(our 3rd friend was white and he's the one who help encourage me to post), being told to leave for no reason, then given nonsense responses when my friend pushed back and his their reasoning wasn't lining up, you cant help but think it was for another unfortunate reason. Shaded outdoor patio with plenty of people watching on Bardstown Road. Drinks are also very reasonably priced: I got a double vodka soda for $3 during Happy Hour, which starts at 2pm. Chill was the first bar I really "felt at home" at when I moved to Louisville. It has a wonderful front and back patio, where on a nice day you can really spend hours day drinking and meeting fellow lgbtq+ folks. I've gone to trivia here several times and it's always a good time and they give fun prizes! I also have gone to karaoke here several times, which is never so busy that you have to wait hours and hours to sing; the way karaoke should be! A friend and I were on a impulsive road trip from Chicago to Dollywood and stopped off in Louisville for the night. After a great dinner a bit further down Bardstown Rd, we found Chill Bar. Now keep in mind it's a Wednesday night about 11 PM, so hadn't really expected a) much to be going on and b) to close down a bar on a school night. Chill Bar is a great place! It's a small, very friendly, neighborhood gay bar. I like bars where I can spend time with old friends and make new ones, and Chill fills the bill. It is very comfortable, and nicely decorated. Music isn't too loud, and you can talk there. Chill has a wonderful patio overlooking Bardstown Road, with a full bar setup. I am looking forward to spending time with friends on the patio when the weather is warmer. Here's a rhetorical question: What does "gay bar" really mean, anyway? There isn't anything particularly "gay" about Chill's decor. There's no disco. There are no videos playing. In fact, there wasn't anything happening at Chill that I wouldn't want my mama to see.
