    Gym

Recently celebrating its grand re-opening! New grab-and-go bar, merchandise, snacks, and yoga classes with a second floor nature view, If you're up here for the weekend, it's a great place to train and enjoy the surrounding village, just a block away. I joined mid-November, and have already seen real progress in my strength and conditioning. The equipment layout is smart, the coaches focus on good development, and the environment pushes you without feeling intimidating. It's the kind of gym that makes you want to wake up at 4:30 AM (I'm part Of the 5am crew) and get after it.

This is me working out in the Dance studio area with the Ballet Bar for stretching at HATC Big Bear Lake, California

OK, So what can I say about this place?.... It's the bomb.... Their selection of machines and free weights is the best I've ever seen in Big Bear. They have an atrium upstairs where they do Pilates, yoga, and strength training classes . They also have a small dance room with a ballet bar to help with stretching.. They also have MMA instructors here offering jiujitsu classes, kickboxing, and other martial arts. They just built an octagon for MMA. I never have to bring anything with me to this gym. They have everything you need, Pilates mats, dumbbells, Pilates balls, jump ropes, everything... The staff is wonderful. They will show you how to use the machines, how to lift properly to prevent injuring yourself . It is a fantastic facility. I highly recommend it. Plus training in the higher altitude is a bonus for anybody who needs to do any type of endurance training.. keep it up HATC you've got lifelong members here. #hatcbigbearlake

My wife and I want our kids to be involved in some type of sport or physical activity outside of daily school. My son had been a dedicated club soccer player for a few yrs but COVID put a damper on that so we were looking for something different he might like. I, personally, had always been a Bruce Lee fan and loved the art of Wing Chun but had never taken part in it. My son was 12 yrs old and had only done a little wrestling as far as self defense so I signed us up for a free week of classes. Usually a 12 yr old would be in the Youth classes but my son was allowed to train alongside me (46 yrs) in the adult classes with grown men and women. As soon as our first class was over he said, "Man, I can't wait to do this again!' He and I were hooked. We continued on for an entire yr together where we trained and fought alongside each other. I had no idea the impact it would have on him to see me (his own father) take my own ups n downs throughout the process of learning. He witnessed me get humbled many times during trainings (hard for a father to do/admit) but I knew I wanted him to see that I was willing to let him see me fail so he could also see me continue on and not give up. It took incredible discipline and dedication for us both but our bond and relationship as father and son took immense strides forward and watched my 12 yr old boy become an artist of Wing Chun during that time. He developed a love of the craft and discipline that Sifu-Don Presto and the many other coaches instilled in him along the way: Samba, Mike, Gabe, Charles, Jamere, Kevin, others. All great men with great character that held my son accountable but also gave him great praise and encouragement when earned. This was the longest my son and I had done anything together, how incredibly rewarding as a father. When I needed to take a break during summer, Sifu-Don offered my son a position as a coach for his Youth classes on Mon-Tues-Wed evenings. He was honored at the opportunity and jumped right in. Working with both, adults and young children (ages 6-12 yrs), men, women, girls, boys, has taught him so much as a young man and character development. Sifu-Don Presto and the staff of coaches at SoCal Wing Chun Academy (Murrieta) have made a life-changing impact on my son and I and have ignited a passion for the martial arts in him that I never saw coming. My wife and I are so incredibly thankful that we made this connection and hope other families may take advantage of such an opportunity. Stop by SoCal Wing Chun Academy today. -Tyler King

I've had experience with eastern martial arts such as karate, however I never practiced Chinese wushu before. At this school, you will learn the fundamentals of this art in its true and authentic form. Coach Matthew, carrying on the legacy of coaches Eric and Debbie, holds an incredible passion for wushu. He will convey the utterly rigorous and precise forms of this art to each student in a clear and intelligible manner. Coach Matthew's mastery is awe-inspiring and motivates students to sharpen their skill at each class. He is without a doubt a very talented wushu master and a very talented teacher. After training at National Wushu Training Center for a couple of months you will find yourself a part of a community all united by a single devotion to wushu. This will give you that one third space everyone is in search for. It's a circle where friends are made and relationships are built. Practicing graceful and powerful Changquan comes with challenges but at Coach Matthew's class you get to overcome not just your physical limits but learn how to take a break from whatever may be troubling you in your life. It's strengthening and therapeutic. You will never feel like a failure at the class. Coach Matthew will make sure to guide you thoroughly through every combination, routine and even smallest movement that is there with great attention and attitude. Training here doesn't require a lot. The classes are very affordable. You don't need to get into a fascinating physical shape prior to taking your first class. All you need is to show up. At least once a week. And then Wu ("martial") Shu ("art") can become your real lifelong Kung Fu.
