What an exciting legendary British landmark to see! The tower is actually called Elizabeth Tower after Queen Elizabeth II, but many people still call it by the nick name of the bell, Big Ben. The gothic tower sits close to the Thames and attached to the Parliament building. The building was designed by Augustus Pugin and Charles Barry. We did not go inside for the tour which cost £35. Ordering tickets is complicated as tickets are only released on the second Wednesday of each month and can only be ordered on line. (I don't even understand what "released on second Wednesday" means. It makes planing complicated.) Anyway, tickets weren't available for 3 months out. Great views of the Tower can be seen from Westminster Bridge. In the mornings, it is a great experience to hear Big Ben ring, counting off the hours. The clocks are said to be the most accurate clocks and have far outlasted my watches. Elizabeth Tower is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Definitely worth a visit and if you can order tickets three months in advance, a tour!
I mean you really can't miss Big Ben when you're in the area of the Houses of Parliament. The Gothic-Revival structure was built in 1859. Not only should it be part of sightseeing for visitors to London but it's a great landmark for meeting up with folks. "I'll meet you at Big Ben at noon for lunch" kinda thing. I mean you just can't miss it since it's nearly 315 feet tall.
When visiting London you have check Big Ben off of your checklist! Lucky for us we were able to stop by during the day and on our way in for the night. We really enjoyed seeing it all lit up at night time. The crowds weren't too large so we were able to get some awesome selfies and group pictures without an issue. Highly recommend keeping your head on a swivl for any signs of pick-pocketers!
Big Ben should definitely be on your checklist of London's attractions. Along with Buckingham Palace - Big Ben is an architectural icon. Please consider yourself warned when I say 'expect an enormous crowd' when visiting. Walking across the bridge over the River Thames to get a snapshot of Big Ben from the best perspective was an adventure in itself - be prepared to be pushed, shoved, forced through a rapid current of people while dodging strollers and street vendors. Once you've survived the river of people - take a moment to enjoy the view and snap some photos.
Big Ben is technically the bell inside of the clock tower, but most people often think of Big Ben as the whole tower. This is a 4-sides faced clock at an incredible part of the London attractions scene, standing at 316 feet or 96 meter tall. Big Ben is quite the celebrity finding itself as a major part of many movies and shows. We came during our first day as we explored the city in the day time and it was crowded and stressful. Fortunately we passed by Big Ben once again at night and was able to see it lit up. Wow. Absolutely stunning. It's even more beautiful at night. I recommend trying to stop by in the day and at night to see the contrast. A must visit while visiting London.
What can I say about Bug Ben that hasn't already been said. Big Ben is an iconic part of London and no trip to London would be complete without seeing and hearing Big Ben. We arrived in Parliament Square late on a Sunday afternoon and into the middle of a pro-Palestine protest. Due in large part to the protest and partly due to beautiful weather, Parliament Square was packed. The crowds were shoulder to shoulder. BUT we got to see and hear Big Ben. A must-see London attraction.
I remember telling my British friend when I saw Big Ben (I know that's the bell inside and the tower is actually called Elizabeth Tower, but who are we kidding? It will always be known as Big Ben) that it didn't seem real. After seeing it in movies and TV shows, it was surreal to finally see it up close in person. First of all, I didn't know it was so detailed, like I didn't know about all the gold filigrees. Secondly, I didn't know it had a Latin inscription that says "Domine Salvam fav Reginam Nostram Victoriam Primam" meaning "O Lord, keep safe our Queen Victoria the First". Seeing it in movies and TV shows it's like, "Oh, yeah, it's that famous clock tower in London", but in person it's like, "Oh, wow, I didn't realize it's so beautiful and well crafted!" It's a definite must see for a London trip. However, at the same time, expect ridiculous crowds and it being a quick "I saw it, I took pictures of it, now on to the next sight."
One of the most iconic land marks in the world. I had forget just how big and bold the clock tower is. I love how gold and crisp it is these days. In a few days I am doing the Big Ben climb up into the clock tower. I can't wait. There are tons of great spots to get pics all along the bridge and on the other side of the river.
One of the infamous landmarks on my vision board, and so glad I was able to see it in person. Big Ben is a prominent symbol of Britain and parliament. It was great being able to be there when the clock hits the hour, just so iconic. However, there are many people taking photos even having photoshoots down there. It's definitely surreal to see Big Ben in person and being able to examine it from ground level is breathtaking. From here, you can walk to the Westminster Abbey and London Eye. Definitely stop by Big Ben if you have a chance while you are in London.
I'm not going to try and add on anything else as most here have spelled it out. Big Ben is historic and no trip to London is complete without seeing it. I've had the opportunity to run the London Marathon a few times, as most recent as 2025, and running by Big Ben along the race course is a thrill, and makes for a terrific photo op. A great memory! This structure is officially named Elizabeth Tower, popularly known as Big Ben. Its a famous clock tower in London, England sitting next to the River Thames at the north end of the Palace of Westminster. Many call the whole tower Big Ben but the name actually belongs to the giant bell inside the tower. It's truly one of the most iconic landmark in the world. Seeing it in person is truly impressive. We've seen it twice now and the architecture continues to stun us everytime. The atmosphere around the area is always lively, with people from all over the world stopping to admire it and taking lots of photos. Being here before, we managed the second time around to walk around the area snapping memories from different perspectives like the Westminster Abbey grounds, the Parliament Square with the Churchill statue, that IG famous K2 Telephone Box by Parliament St or the frequently photographed POV by Westminster Bridge. Whether it's your first visit or not, this monument never lost its charm and accurate time telling since 1859. read more
Wow. What an incredible piece of history! Lovely. Just like the Eiffel Tower of Paris, France, one does not realize the size and magnitude, detail and immense beauty of 'Big Ben'. The area is touristy, and full of trinket shops. Folks say to watch your cell phone, hold it tight along with your bag, satchel or knapsack. Though nothing adverse happened when I was there - there is a potential due to the sea of people. A lovely site and one that every visitor to London should get to, as close as possible to enjoy. read more

I mean... it's BIG BEN! The architecture with the house of parliament looks visually stunning, and it's just one of Londons iconic buildings! It's so easy to get to and the bridge is the perfect place to take the best pictures. Would definitely be a must do if in London. read more

Have to stop while in London. You can't tour the inside but you have to get close to see how massive it really is. The detail in the architect is also amazing. Iconic and classic tourist attraction. read more

Visited Big Ben while in London. Did you know its official name is the Elizabeth Tower, renamed in 2012 in honor of Queen Elizabeth II's Diamond Jubilee -- but everyone still calls it Big Ben. The site was impressive, with plenty of onlookers taking in the views. We spent about 30 minutes exploring and enjoying the surroundings. Fun fact: the minute hand is roughly the same length as a single-decker bus! Overall, it's worth a quick stop and was one of the highlights of our trip. Saluti read more

Iconic clock that watches over London. I've been here a handful of times over the last 25 years. It's rare to have sunny weather. If you got a layover get an Oyster card and hop on the bus and go visit Big Ben. read more
As one of the well-known main attractions in London, I oddly always thought that Big Ben was a free standing clock but as I stood in front of the massive round time dial (clock) formation, I realized that it was attached to an enormous structure called the Houses of Parliament. Tours inside Big Ben were not available. No need for a wrist watch, view the Big Ben clock from almost one mile away. read more

I never dreamed I would actually get to go to London but my husband came for work and I got to go with him. Pretty much all I knew about London is the bridge and the Big Ben but of course there was a lot more to see LOL. Can't believe I actually saw this in person. read more

Big Ben is a must-stop if you're in London. It's conveniently located near Westminster Abbey and Parliament, so it's easy to stop by for a touristy picture. While we didn't do any sort of tour, they are available. We went to take pictures and check it off our London bucket list. It was especially beautiful in the evening, so I would recommend visiting after sunset if possible. read more
A true icon and piece of history in London. Expect large crowds, filled with beautiful architecture, lots of people, and amazing memories. Conveniently located and not too far from James Park. About a 15 minute walk. Make sure to enjoy all the scenery, including the river, the Westminster Abbey and Parliament. Take photos along the bridge for optimal views and less crowds. read more
When you think if London, Big Ben is one of the famous landmarks that come to mind. There's a tube station nearby for easy transportation and a great place to meet for many nearby pubs and restaurants. The tower, Westminster clock was built in 1863, 316 feet tall.. such a sight. The four nations of the United Kingdom are represented on the shields. Rose for England Thistle for Scotland Shamrock for Ireland Leek for Wales So many great viewing points to see this amazing tower. read more

This clock captures the essence of London. When you think of London, what is the first thing that comes to mind? Probably Big Ben. Which makes sense. It stands out. The clock has made an impression on you and the entire world. In person, it is so much bigger than I imagined. It's so tall! I guess I never thought about how big it would be lol it's really impressive in real life. Photos don't do it justice! Super fun to see it finally! read more
Big Ben was an awesome site as you start over the bridge walking closer and closer there is a glorious awe of the masterful architecture!! Heading forward also brings you thay much closer to Buckingham Palace. At the top of the hour Ben rang out letting everyone know it was noon!! Quick note if you want to climb inside you should book 3-6 months out or you'll end up like me with no access... You can buy tickets on the parliament website so keep an eye on when you can order it!! read more

The next stop on our worldwide holiday, Big Ben! Big Ben was a delight to visit with my husband (39- and a half!) and toddler (3). We began our visit at around 6:00am, to avoid the crowds. But the hustle and bustle of London made my toddler restless, because not even after three hours of picture taking, he began to weep! At around 11:00am, we ventured onward to the M&M store, where my toddler (3) commented on the high sugar to fat ratio, per 100g of M&M's. It truly broke my heart as a mother and nutritionist. Overall, Big Ben was a big hit for my husband (39.5) and I (37), but a BIG waste of time for my toddler (3), so we wouldn't recommend visiting with kids under the age of 5. Karen Johnson read more
A landmark in London that I could not miss and needed to check off on my itinerary. It was in Parliament Square and a tourist location for sure. Everyone trying to get the best view of Big Ben without someone's head in the way. No food places around here just lots of old historic structures. Ok, it was a very big clock and not much more, not too exciting but I checked it off my list. read more

Big Ben was great! I love going to historic monuments I've heard about all my life, so this was a must visit when I was in London. Despite it being a pretty cold day, a lot of folks were out and about near the clock. I was able to get great pictures tho, and definitely enjoyed the experience. read more

I have a friend named Ben so I HAD TO send him a picture of Big Ben for fun. It's just a cool historical site. Walked around the area and also got a great aerial shot on the London eye of it. Definitely would recommend seeing it at least once while in London. read more
Annoying fun fact that I heard and will now repeat as if I knew it all along. Elizabeth Tower is the name of the clock we see, and Big Ben is actually the bell inside that we hear.... Who knew!! Anyway Big Ben is a marvel that's totally worth your time to check out and snap a few pictures. One of the best viewing spots is right from the Westminster Bridge. I don't think there are any kind of tour options for Big Ben, but just coming here and checking out the surrounding area is worth it. read more

IT'S A CLOCK! - Big Ben is an iconic symbol of not just London but the entire country as a whole. Big Ben is actually the name of the bell inside the Tower, which was renamed Elizabeth Tower for the Queen's Jubilee in 2012, historically, it has held other names, including St Stephen's Tower. Walking along Westminster Bridge and the Thames, the 96-meter-tall tower shines from afar, if using the Underground, it will be right in front of you upon leaving Westminster Station. The surrounding areas do get incredibly busy and touristy, but this is the case at pretty much any attraction with any degree of prestige and fame. It is attached to the Houses of Parliament, which is home to democracy in the United Kingdom. For Americans reading this, the Houses of Parliament is like our version of Congress: we elect officials to represent us, with the party with the most officials (MPs) governing, and their leader becomes our Prime Minister. The tower is so impressive, and the bell now rings once more, it was under construction for a good number of years recently, so it's good to see it back and fully restored to its glory. It's an iconic symbol of the city, and it is certainly well worth visiting for the obligatory selfie marking your visit to London. read more
Ah... so this is the famous Big Ben! It was beautiful and pictures don't do it enough justice. It is connected to the Palace of Westminster, aka Houses of Parliament. The Big Ben is a symbol of democracy here in UK. I wish we had more time to do tours when we were in London, but there's always next time ;) read more

Besides looking at Big Benny, there's actually a lot to do in the area. A lot of cool spots to take photos. If you're looking for the red telephone booths, they are a block away. read more
