Honestly answer this, when you think of London, what iconic landmark do you think of? If this was Family Feud, I'm sure Big Ben would be the #1 answer. It's beautiful in the distance, and remarkable up close as well. It amazes me how the locals just casually stroll by like it's not a beautiful architectural structure. I'll always marvel at its' beauty rain or shine (glad I've seen it with both).
What an exciting legendary British landmark to see! The tower is actually called Elizabeth Tower after Queen Elizabeth II, but many people still call it by the nick name of the bell, Big Ben. The gothic tower sits close to the Thames and attached to the Parliament building. The building was designed by Augustus Pugin and Charles Barry. We did not go inside for the tour which cost £35. Ordering tickets is complicated as tickets are only released on the second Wednesday of each month and can only be ordered on line. (I don't even understand what "released on second Wednesday" means. It makes planing complicated.) Anyway, tickets weren't available for 3 months out. Great views of the Tower can be seen from Westminster Bridge. In the mornings, it is a great experience to hear Big Ben ring, counting off the hours. The clocks are said to be the most accurate clocks and have far outlasted my watches. Elizabeth Tower is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Definitely worth a visit and if you can order tickets three months in advance, a tour!
This is an amazing iconic clock Tower in London. Worth a walk worth the bus rides. Can see it from many places in London, but I'm definitely a pleasure
I mean you really can't miss Big Ben when you're in the area of the Houses of Parliament. The Gothic-Revival structure was built in 1859. Not only should it be part of sightseeing for visitors to London but it's a great landmark for meeting up with folks. "I'll meet you at Big Ben at noon for lunch" kinda thing. I mean you just can't miss it since it's nearly 315 feet tall.
Big Ben should definitely be on your checklist of London's attractions. Along with Buckingham Palace - Big Ben is an architectural icon. Please consider yourself warned when I say 'expect an enormous crowd' when visiting. Walking across the bridge over the River Thames to get a snapshot of Big Ben from the best perspective was an adventure in itself - be prepared to be pushed, shoved, forced through a rapid current of people while dodging strollers and street vendors. Once you've survived the river of people - take a moment to enjoy the view and snap some photos.
Big Ben is technically the bell inside of the clock tower, but most people often think of Big Ben as the whole tower. This is a 4-sides faced clock at an incredible part of the London attractions scene, standing at 316 feet or 96 meter tall. Big Ben is quite the celebrity finding itself as a major part of many movies and shows. We came during our first day as we explored the city in the day time and it was crowded and stressful. Fortunately we passed by Big Ben once again at night and was able to see it lit up. Wow. Absolutely stunning. It's even more beautiful at night. I recommend trying to stop by in the day and at night to see the contrast. A must visit while visiting London.
Nice sight to see after hearing about it since a kid. Pretty cool and nice to take pictures of it.
I mean... it's BIG BEN! The architecture with the house of parliament looks visually stunning, and it's just one of Londons iconic buildings! It's so easy to get to and the bridge is the perfect place to take the best pictures. Would definitely be a must do if in London.
When visiting London you have check Big Ben off of your checklist! Lucky for us we were able to stop by during the day and on our way in for the night. We really enjoyed seeing it all lit up at night time. The crowds weren't too large so we were able to get some awesome selfies and group pictures without an issue. Highly recommend keeping your head on a swivl for any signs of pick-pocketers!
Wow. What an incredible piece of history! Lovely. Just like the Eiffel Tower of Paris, France, one does not realize the size and magnitude, detail and immense beauty of 'Big Ben'. The area is touristy, and full of trinket shops. Folks say to watch your cell phone, hold it tight along with your bag, satchel or knapsack. Though nothing adverse happened when I was there - there is a potential due to the sea of people. A lovely site and one that every visitor to London should get to, as close as possible to enjoy.
What can I say about Bug Ben that hasn't already been said. Big Ben is an iconic part of London and no trip to London would be complete without seeing and hearing Big Ben. We arrived in Parliament Square late on a Sunday afternoon and into the middle of a pro-Palestine protest. Due in large part to the protest and partly due to beautiful weather, Parliament Square was packed. The crowds were shoulder to shoulder. BUT we got to see and hear Big Ben. A must-see London attraction.
I remember telling my British friend when I saw Big Ben (I know that's the bell inside and the tower is actually called Elizabeth Tower, but who are we kidding? It will always be known as Big Ben) that it didn't seem real. After seeing it in movies and TV shows, it was surreal to finally see it up close in person. First of all, I didn't know it was so detailed, like I didn't know about all the gold filigrees. Secondly, I didn't know it had a Latin inscription that says "Domine Salvam fav Reginam Nostram Victoriam Primam" meaning "O Lord, keep safe our Queen Victoria the First". Seeing it in movies and TV shows it's like, "Oh, yeah, it's that famous clock tower in London", but in person it's like, "Oh, wow, I didn't realize it's so beautiful and well crafted!" It's a definite must see for a London trip. However, at the same time, expect ridiculous crowds and it being a quick "I saw it, I took pictures of it, now on to the next sight."
One of the most iconic land marks in the world. I had forget just how big and bold the clock tower is. I love how gold and crisp it is these days. In a few days I am doing the Big Ben climb up into the clock tower. I can't wait. There are tons of great spots to get pics all along the bridge and on the other side of the river.

IT'S A CLOCK! - Big Ben is an iconic symbol of not just London but the entire country as a whole. Big Ben is actually the name of the bell inside the Tower, which was renamed Elizabeth Tower for the Queen's Jubilee in 2012, historically, it has held other names, including St Stephen's Tower. Walking along Westminster Bridge and the Thames, the 96-meter-tall tower shines from afar, if using the Underground, it will be right in front of you upon leaving Westminster Station. The surrounding areas do get incredibly busy and touristy, but this is the case at pretty much any attraction with any degree of prestige and fame. It is attached to the Houses of Parliament, which is home to democracy in the United Kingdom. For Americans reading this, the Houses of Parliament is like our version of Congress: we elect officials to represent us, with the party with the most officials (MPs) governing, and their leader becomes our Prime Minister. The tower is so impressive, and the bell now rings once more, it was under construction for a good number of years recently, so it's good to see it back and fully restored to its glory. It's an iconic symbol of the city, and it is certainly well worth visiting for the obligatory selfie marking your visit to London. read more
Ah... so this is the famous Big Ben! It was beautiful and pictures don't do it enough justice. It is connected to the Palace of Westminster, aka Houses of Parliament. The Big Ben is a symbol of democracy here in UK. I wish we had more time to do tours when we were in London, but there's always next time ;) read more

We got out of the tubes at Westminster station and we're right in front of Big Ben and the Thames River. The Westminster clock is an iconic landmark. It was built in 1863, stands 316 feet tall, and the climb from ground level to the belfry is 334 steps. Its base is square, measuring 40 feet on each side. Dials of the clock are 22.5 feet in diameter. All 4 nations of the United Kingdom are represented on shields featuring a rose for England, thistle for Scotland, shamrock for Ireland, & a leek for Wales. read more

Big Ben exceeded my expectations! What can I say. I went in June and it was such a surreal view. The only thing I can say bad is how crowded it was, however that's expected at the peak of summer. read more
Big Ben is more beautiful in person!!! Right across from London Eye and Queen Elizabeth Station, you will find Big Ben. The area is historic, crowded and very touristy. Watch your purses as you go through the thickness of the crowd on Westminister Bridge. I love the feeling of being in such a historic area. If you visit London it is a must-see. Put it on your list. read more

When in London... We only walked past to get some photos. I definitely recommend stopping by top of the hour to hear the dings and dongs lol. Wanted to see if Ben really was big. Ben wasn't big. Ben was massive. read more

When we turned the corner and saw Big Ben we all said 'wow!!' It stopped us in our tracks! It was so spectacular and beyond anything we could imagine. The images we have seen online don't do this historical site justice. I would recommend raising by in the evening to see it lit up in all of its glory next to the river. read more

This is actually the House of Parliament Building where the Big Ben clock resides. This is also actually called the St. Elizabeth's tower. Order! Order... yes this location is the symbol of England where house members love to debate! read more
Hello mate, thanks for following me on my london journey. . This place is a must, if you don't come here for a selfie, we're you even in london? . The structure is amazing. Just walking close up and taking pics and videos is stunning. . Yes lots of crowd during week day and weekends. Bring comfy shoes because there is lots of walking involved. Becareful of your belongings. The pick pocket is real and quick without you knowing. One bump and your belonging is missing. . Mama had been pick pocket here. Her bag with the big compartment was opened. The little hidden pocket was unzipped in the big compartment. She has lots her pounds. She didn't even know til we had to pay for something in the gift shop. Make sure you wear your coats over the fanny pack or bag. If crossbody make sure it's high up so it's in your sight or can control. Don't let it swing near the hip or swing behind the butt area. . If you have read til here, thanks for reading mate. I had the privilege of enjoying a trip to London and could not miss out on these fabulous landmarks. Big Ben was top of my list given my children's love of Peppa Pig. The architecture in London is second to none and I am so grateful for the experience and the awe inspiring beauty. If you get the chance, don't sleep on this one! The area is beautiful! read more
Big Ben is a British cultural icon recognized around the world. The historic landmark is one of the most prominent symbols of the United Kingdom where just one glimpse of it and people are like, "aah yes, that's Big Ben, that's London!" Even my little one was excited to see Big Ben and it was all he could talk about until we finally saw it in person. Sure it's a huge tourist attraction, but it's a must see and cannot be missed. Big Ben, which is the nickname for the Great Bell in the Great Clock of the Palace of Westminster, was built in the mid 1800's. In 2012, the tower which Big Ben is located was renamed from Clock Tower to the Elizabeth Tower to mark the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II. After four years of careful renovation which came at a hefty price tag, Big Ben now has an even brighter gold exterior and refreshed clock face. It's beautiful and shined so brightly on a clear summer day. It looks so much more bold and shiny compared to our first visit 13 years ago and I'm so glad we got to see it again. I highly recommend sitting in the park across the way to take in the view and admire the gothic architecture of one of the world's most famous clocks. read more
Definitely worth a visit, especially at night. You can get a wonderful photo in front of the giant clock. Afterwards, you can cross the street and get a nice photo by the London Eye. I just caution you it is a heavily trafficked area-- so be cognizant of that when stopping to get photographs here! read more
Big Ben is synonymous with London and a landmark one should see once in their lifetime. It's just a giant clock tower but it's THE giant clock tower! We planned to come early so we can get photos with the least amount of people and vehicles in the background but London weather had different plans for us. Yes, there is a significantly less people in the early morning but it doesn't matter when it's raining so hard that you can barely make out Big Ben in the background. It was a great experience and I'm glad I didn't melt when the London sky poured on me. We came back hours later and the place was filled with people with lots of vehicle traffic. Congested would be an understatement. Not ideal but what can you do? It was a little disappointing that the weather was perfect on the last day we were in London but we didn't have time to go back for photos. It'll be great for all those that planned to visit that day though and hopefully they get some beautiful pictures. Definitely worthwhile landmark to visit when in London that's nearby to Westminster Abbey and London Eye. read more
Had to come see Big Ben with the parliament buildings while in London. I highly recommend doing a hop-on, hop-off bus tour to get the whole backstory. It's a beautiful clock tower and made for some great photo opportunities for us. Even on a cloudy day, it was fun to see the structure. Lots of walking space nearby, so easy to get a view on various sides. read more

What an iconic landmark. Feels so majestic to see in person. Closed during winter, unable to get inside but you can get plenty of photos outside at many areas of the city. One of my favorite to see over and over. Never get tired of it. Highly recommend Book tickets 1-2 months in advance of your trip. These areas are highly congested. Watch your phones and personal effects. People walk close enough to touch you. read more

On part of a recent birthday trip to London I fell in love with Big Ben all over again. There is nothing like seeing it in person, and the feelings you feel. Just truly amazing! It's centrally located to so many attractions, the tube and the Uber Boat. The area can get extremely busy and I would suggest visiting early morning for great photos or late at night.Taxis are easy to come by but you can walk to pretty much anywhere from Westminster Abbey to the London Eye in only a few minutes. The Uber Boat is right under the bridge and that will take you to the Tower Bridge in about 20 minutes for 7 euros. I highly recommend a stop at Big Ben, take your time, enjoy the scenery and enjoy every minute.There is truly no place like London. read more

It's currently under reconstruction and renovation, and has been so since 21 August 2017. It's planned that the Big Ben will be silent for 4 years, so while there isn't too much to review right now, I am certainly happy to still be able to catch it during my first time here in England! Big Ben is full of history embedded into its gorgeous gothic architecture ever since it was completed back on 31 May, 1859. It's an iconic cultural symbol of the UK, and is often seen as an establishing shot in films set in England. Fun fact: On the clock's face, the hour hand is 9 feet (2.7 m) long and the minute hand is 14 feet (4.3 m) long. If you go on the London Eye, you can't miss the Big Ben! It's a great location with a lot of other touristy things neighboring it, like Westminster Abbey, where there are a LOT of people crowding to go in. Big Ben is right by Parliament Square, where there are a bunch of red telephone booths, perfect for that cheesy London tourist photo. On the side of Parliament Square facing Westminster Abbey are the red telephone booths in the most popular spots to take those photos, since you can get the Big Ben in your shot. When I first arrived, not knowing that the Big Ben was under construction, I was confused with where the Big Ben was, until I looked into its direction from the phone booth I wanted to take my photo with, and went, "Wait, that's Big Ben???" I felt like I had met a date who looked nothing like his photo from his dating profile. Okay, that was a mean joke. We still love you, Big Ben, I know you're just going through a rough patch and in 2021, you'll be more glorious than ever. read more

Big Ben is one of the most iconic spots to look at when your in London. It is a large clock tower but at the moment it is getting worked on so the photos aren't really that great. It's still nice to come and see it for a few minutes, you can visit other places near by like the Westminster Abbey, London Eye, and the Buckingham Palace. Very close and walkable. Take a few minutes here and try to plan your day with other activities close by! Overall it's still an alright place to go but yeah it's still not done yet. The clock is pretty old it has been around since 1859!!!! So of course it sometimes needs to get some work done. If your into architecture this is a spot to come by and also it is pretty famous and well known. read more
While visiting London over ten times now, I always make it a point to walk across the Westminster Bridge and visit Big Ben and the Parliament. At any time, you can visit the Big Ben clock tower and the building of the Houses of Parliament from the outside. The Houses of Parliament is open for tours almost every Saturday and several days from late July to early October. If you are looking for a good photo spot for the Big Ben, you should check the view from the nearby Westminster Bridge. A Big Ben clock tower tour is unfortunately not possible for foreign tourists. Locals can contact their member of Parliament to request a visit permit. Nevertheless, due to its popularity the Big Ben is part of the typical sightseeing program. At the Houses of Parliament you can choose between various possibilities for a tour. You can watch committees and debates for free in the House of Commons and the House of Lords. These take place during the week. If you are looking to see Peter Pan, Wendy, John, and Michael Darling sitting on the Clock Tower Hands before flying to NeverLand, you will be let down, since their last time being in London was in 1953.. :) read more
This is one of the things that comes to mind when I think of London, you too, right? I came for a week in the fall. It is a big elegant clock tower in the middle of this big, bustling city. It's great for photos, it's beautiful on it's own with some peeps too. It is a loud, resonating sound and melodic as it strikes the hour. Glad I got some pics before it underwent the 4 year construction. It was not silent when I went, luckily. read more
