My request was not a big job for them and time was of the essence. The seller of the furniture I purchased had new pieces coming and needed the old furniture moved asap. 40% rate hike on storage unit WITHOUT NOTICE. Contacted home office to speak to owner or General Manager and was denied access to have a conversation with anyone except receptionist answering phone call. Like a robot, she kept repeating, " I'm sorry but rates are based on occupancy and competitive market rates". Unprofessional and unethical to raise rates without notice just because you have it on recurring auto pay which is required and no one to voice concerns to. Yes, I will be moving asap. I used this company and as far as I am concerned they are crooks. They lost a box of my precious goods and made zero effort to locate it. They delivered a crate of someone else's goods to me and made zero effort to pick it up and get to the right person. They took "forever" to deliver my goods and couldn't even tell me where they were along the way. They used creepy subcontractors and insisted I pay in cash before they would deliver my things. Big Bens storage are shyster rip offs; they will not generate a refund on security deposits unless you threaten them with a lawsuit. They continually lie about the deposit being deposited into the originating account but yet the banking institution has no record of such. UPDATE 8/25/2023: Only after I posted a public review did Ben's call me to offer to send two guys to rearrange the storage unit and inspect for damage. The guys they sent were great and put the unit in order. Aisles were created (as they confirmed per their own notes I had originally requested), boxes of books were placed on the bottom, instead of on top, of fragile objects. Overall, a great improvement. They suggested the mattress might have arrived damaged to them, which though plausible I find highly unlikely given they had originally placed it stuffed between items in a haphazard manner. Sadly, evidence of their bad business practices continued. The day before the appointment to fix the unit, senior manager Scott sent over a document for me to sign claiming that I agreed that two guys would be sent for three hours and in exchange I would remove any negative reviews. Failing to remove negative reviews would lead to "legal action including: Liable [sic]; Deformation [sic] of Character; slander, and the breaking of this agreement." The document alleged we had "prior negotiations which took place by 08/14/2023. As per our conversation, the mutually agreed upon terms are as follows," which is false--no such discussion occurred. Presenting such a document the day before the appointment, with false statements and pressure to remove this review, is a dishonest business practice, which the public should be aware of. I said I was not signing any such document, first because it claims we had conversations we never had, and second because I don't know how much damage is in the unit until it is put in order. They accepted this and sent the guys to fix it. CONCLUSION: My overall picture of the firm is as follows: Some of the low-level employees are very thoughtful and careful. Some are careless to the point of causing serious damage to expensive items and disrupting customer plans. The senior management and the owner Benjamin G. Gottfredson knowingly engages in strong-arm, dishonest business practices (especially to get rid of negative reviews), which I have detailed above. read more

We recently used this company for a move. The guys that do the moving are very friendly and hard working but that is where the good stops. On our first move from the old home to the storage something got broke. Not a big deal it happens. They reassured us they would compensate us for it. Fast forward six months our new home is ready and they moved us from the storage to the new house. They could not find records all of a sudden on the broken item. They were also very snappy about it on the phone. In the end they did call back and refund us for it. But to avoid this definitely take pictures your self. After starting to unpack I have also noticed a large sailboat wheel missing. This was given to me from a dear friend. It is hard to miss it's heavy made of wood. Was her actual sailboat wheel. Until I start putting things where they belong I hadn't noticed it gone. Hoping it was just left on the truck and will be found. I know it's hard to go through things right away but I encourage you to check the trucks and blankets at the least to make sure nothing got left. We had so much going on I didn't even think about it. We were also dealing with the lost paperwork of the first move. Moving is hard and losing things you love is devastating. My advice. Try to take time to make a list. Check trucks. So back in October I moved from Las Vegas to Utah. This was my fourth relocation within a 2 year period. (For context) So I moved my family from a 3 bedroom to a 5 bedroom. So I was looking for quotes, when I called them they said they don't give quotes they could give me an estimate. So I asked what did they think it would come to, they gave me a reasonable quote. So I then said I'd like to book an appointment when prompted by the customer service representative that it was needed. Of $150 the way it was explained was that it's toward the total. So I booked them, knowing I didn't want to make this an all day event i asked to book a 3rd mover to cut costs and moving time. Since I needed them to move a small 3 bedroom house and a storage unit that was literally 2 minutes away down the street. After we get our move in date I called and reconfirmed with them. About a day or two go by and my wife says she wants to buy some things for the new house can the movers go to a storage facility to pick up more items. So I asked can we stop at another location they said we would have to book another truck and another mover I said absolutely the more the better sense prices went up by the hour it made sense. Once the moving date came, I went with one set of movers to move the house and my wife went with the other to the second stoarsge unit which was 15 min away from our home. As we're moving about 45 min go by and my wife text me and said they were done. I said great I'll see if they can just wait there til we were done. The movers she was with who finished early called the movers I was with and I overheard their conversation. The movers I was with were working at a good pace so they figured they could be done quick, however I knew we still hadn't gone to my storage unit to grab the other things. The movers I was with told the movers my wife was with that they can go to another job or just leave because they were confident they'd be done soon. Long story short after filling their truck AND my truck with things from both locations. Then moving us in it took almost 8 hours and cost me $1000 dollars basically 500 per crew plus the 150 that didn't count towards the total like I was lead to believe. One crew worked 1 hour the second crew almost 8 hours! How does that make sense let alone the sneaky $150 "Booking fee" I had them call the manager and I was upset disputed the charge they said no! I then called my bank and only disputed 500 and they lied and told my bank that I only booked 2 movers point is they're liars and crooks and I'll never suggest them to anybody!!! read more

I was very disappointed with my moving experience with Big Ben's moving company. They had three men working. They were extremely slow. I can understand why because they charge per guy per hour. It was a very expensive damaging move. I only had furniture to move and a small amount of food storage. It still took them six hours. They damaged many of my items, they dragged my brand new expensive mattress across the ground. They scratched the front of my washer that had no damage on it. They never turned the water on on my washing machine, and they mixed up the hot and cold. I had to have it fixed later. They scratched my kitchen table. They tried to shove a piece of furniture into a room after I told them it wouldn't fit and scraped up my new walls and frame, they broke all of the top pieces off of my hutch. I don't even understand how they did that ..they didn't seem to care and they don't want to compensate me for anything. I would not recommend them at all as a moving company. I used Big Ben on the recommendation of a friend. We are building a new home and had to put our furniture in storage. In April our contract was for $169 per unit (we are using 3 units). They increased the price to $189 in July, a 13% increase. Then in September they said they were requiring all the units to have insurance and charged me $15 per unit per month (outlandishly high price). I purchased renters' insurance for $10/mo. and they agreed to give me a $45 credit on the next month instead of removing the $45 charge. Then in October they increased the price again to $209 per unit, a $20 increase. That means in six months they have increased the price by almost 25%. Last I looked inflation was running at 8.2%. And there was no notification of the latest price increase until we saw in on our bill. It was done unilaterally. I have also been informed that it will probably increase again before my new home is finished. It was explained to me that when demand for the units increases the price per unit increases. I then asked if demand lessened would my price per unit decrease and the response is that is not how the pricing model they use works. In other words, it can increase your price but not decrease it. Once this company has your furniture and they realize you have to leave it in storage they just increase the price knowing you are helpless. I would recommend finding another company, one that will sign a contract for the designated period of time at a price for the length of the contract. Big Ben Moving and Storage has not behaved reputably. read more
