I recently had a very concerning experience after leaving an honest negative review. Mr. Love called me directly, and instead of addressing my concerns professionally, he was dismissive and made me feel guilty for speaking up. During that conversation, I explained ongoing issues: limited access to equipment due to overcrowding and frequent classes, the steam room often being closed without any posted cleaning schedule, and staff behavior that can feel rude and unwelcoming. None of these concerns were taken seriously. A week ago, I experienced another incident. As I entered the steam room with three other members, we were abruptly told to leave because it was being cleaned. There was no prior notice or posted schedule, and the staff member handled the situation in a very rude and inconsiderate way, despite the fact that we were already undressed and ready to use the facility. Following this, I spoke with a manager, Beth Douglas, to share my concerns. From the beginning, she labeled me as "agitated" and "difficult," which was both unprofessional and dismissive. I was not even offered a seat during the conversation while both she and the maintenance manager remained seated, which made the interaction feel uncomfortable and disrespectful. Instead of addressing the issue, I was told to consider finding another gym. After informing them that I was recording the conversation (due to being labeled unfairly), my membership was terminated. I also attempted to contact corporate to escalate these concerns but was unsuccessful. After reading other reviews, it appears that similar complaints about management and staff behavior have been raised by others, with little to no action taken. It is disappointing that a gym at this price point fails to provide not only consistent access to amenities but also basic customer respect. A gym should be a welcoming place that supports well-being and stress relief, not one that creates additional frustration. I cannot recommend this location based on my experience.

I understand that life happens, but when the sub seems clueless to how the class is organized, it becomes frustrating. Not only for the babies, but also for the parents paying the school fee. The quality of instruction varied tremendously depending on the coach. Some coaches would spend much of the lesson standing in the pool and singing the songs, while others actually provided helpful feedback, worked on specific swim skills, and took the time to get to know the children they were teaching. There was also constant turnover. Over the two years we attended, our son was given a new coach multiple times. Often, the new coach didn't seem to know anything about his strengths, what he had already learned, or what he was capable of doing. Instead of taking the time to get acquainted with their group they would sometimes simply move into whatever activity was planned. I understand the timing but it didn't feel authentic but rather check marks. It made it difficult to feel like he was consistently building on what he had learned due to so many changes Cancellations were another major frustration. Lessons were consistently cancelled due to staff call-outs or other issues or staff shortages, which left us accumulating countless makeup passes. We ultimately cancelled our membership and are now trying to use up all of those makeup passes, which honestly feels like we are using them simply because we have them rather than because we are getting much value from the lessons. The one coach we cannot say enough positive things about is Josh. If we could take him with us to our next swim school, we absolutely would. Josh took the time to genuinely get to know our son, understand his abilities, and build on the skills he already had. He looked like he actually wanted to be there, was engaged throughout the lesson, and genuinely seemed to care about the children he was teaching. He showed us what the experience could have been and so much more. It's sad because we really wanted this program to work. Even with a discount, the cost feels extremely high for the limited skill progression, frequent coaching changes, inconsistent instruction, and constant cancellations we experienced. After giving it two years, we ultimately decided it was time to move on. We are very unhappy with the overall experience and hope our next swim school provides more consistency and actual skill development.

Overall, I'd consider Cub Run one of the better rec centers in Fairfax County. The facilities are nice, the pricing is reasonable, and it's a great place for families.

Today I took my daughter for a trial class. We recently went to the beach and also swam in a pool and I noticed she was a bit nervous about the water. She is 3. I will say the whole sign up process was easy and the front desk staff was very helpful. Our trial class was at 4:30pm. This started off hard because my daughter has never been in the water alone with anyone except me or her dad. There were two instructors and I did explain to both that my daughter was very afraid of the water. The instructor with brown hair was not great with kids and was not very social. When she got my daughter in the water the way that she swung her around made me super concerned for my daughter's neck. You just don't move a 3 year old around like that.. and the worst is she kept splashing water in my daughters eyes which ended up with my daughter hysterically crying and we had to leave 15 minutes into the lesson.

With that said, my kid now wants to practice swimming in bath-this would have been unheard of before. I think she isn't too far from learning how to swim all on own and it's been a few months-she's been practicing both on her belly and back and now perfecting some mechanics and increasing confidence even more. We are really proud and overall can't complain. For us, we noticed its same instructor every class unlike other reviewers so think Goldfish may have improved our experience based on some of reviews, which I see as a really good thing that they are willing to listen to feedback to improve. The pool seems heated and clean, also great space with showers/changing rooms/bathrooms/hair blowdrying stations/candies/goggles for sale in case you forget, etc. There's large waiting area for parents to watch swimming which is great with lifeguard. They also let you go in to watch your kids progress after every class and hear the teacher's feedback which is great.

Then came Easter, with no classes, but I glut a notification that my class was cancelled and a makeup was added to my account. I got another call about my class for this weekend being cancelled due to no instructor, and again told them that we moved, we withdrew from the class a month ago, and we are still waiting for the refunded billing. At this point, I am a few days away from being billed for another month for a service I CANNOT use because I don't live there anymore. I am usually a pretty easy going person, but this is ridiculous.
