We've had a good experience at Cub Run Rec Center overall. We've enrolled our kids in the swimming lessons, and while the classes were affordable and did a nice job helping them become comfortable and familiar with the water, they seemed to focus more on water confidence than teaching actual swimming skills. We've also visited the water park several times, and our kids always have a great time. It's clean, well-maintained, and offers enough variety to keep them entertained for a few hours. Overall, I'd consider Cub Run one of the better rec centers in Fairfax County. The facilities are nice, the pricing is reasonable, and it's a great place for families. read more

Great family splash park and olympic sized gym! Only $27 for a family pack. It's ran by the county so you do have to show your ID to make sure you're a county resident. We could've easily spent 4 hrs here. There are several life guards on duty and the kids had a blast! There are 2 large water slides, one that goes outside and ends up inside as well as a smaller kids water jungle gym and a whirlpool that our kids loved! Cub Run Rec Center offers an indoor water playground that is enjoyable for children of all ages featuring a zero depth water entry, lazy river, water slides, water cannons, water vortex, and sprays. They even have a sauna! This is not a resort by any means but it is a great way to entertain kiddos on a cold, winter day and get some wiggles out. The locker room is clean and well-kept and they even have a family changing room which comes in so clutch for my husband and my daughter. The total cost for an afternoon of fun is approximately $40 for a family of four, which is a total steal. Add in a trip to the nearby Chick-fil-a and you are in kid heaven. They also host birthday parties for a fraction of the cost of places like Chuck E. Cheese or Scramble. read more

The only thing that drives me absolutely nuts about this place, is there are always multiple people at the check in desk and they are usually too busy talking where I have to wait a couple minutes to get checked in. It's either that, or the computers are as slow as a snail and they have to wait for it to re-register to scan me in. Such a pain. I attend classes and I like most of the instructors. I've asked if they would ever add a barre class in because that class is very popular. I also wish they would have more classes later on a weekend or around the 4:30pm hour. read more

Last weekend was the second swim lesson my little one had. Our instructor Nick has been very kind and has done a good job explaining safety measures while still making things fun. Before each lesson you check in at a table upstairs. There's an elevator that comes in handy for strollers to get downstairs. There are 2 family changing rooms before the lap and leisure pools but I usually just use the women's changing room. read more

Went to the leisure pool on Black Friday with my two year old. They opened 12-7 so we decided to give it a try. My daughter had a blast there and did not even want to leave. She went to the slides many times and swam on the lazy river a couple times. They had life jackets and swim floats available which was awesome. Lots of lifeguards around to ensure safety and that kids don't walk around on the lazy river sides. Family changing room and lockers were available. Plenty of parking. Will recommend!! read more

Cub Run has a great little indoor "waterpark " plus a hot tub for adults (16+) and is very affordable. For myself, an under 2, and an over 48" child, it was $20, and that is for the day. There is a playground in the shallow area with two identical slides perfect for my 20 month old. There are also plenty of bubblers and sprayers in that area too. In the deeper area is a small lazy River with a few water features, including a water arch tunnel. There's also a whirlpool that the kids loved. There are two large slides for those over 48 ". One even goes outside the building. The water is tolerable, but I appreciated access to the hot tub for a few minutes during the hourly lifeguard break. Life jackets and puddle jumper's are available if you forget yours. read more

We had the opportunity to have my son Noah's second birthday party here at cub, run recreational center this past Saturday. We had checked it out a couple months ago, and he absolutely loved it! Leading up to the party, we were helped every step of the way! Makiya is so amazing at her job and did a fantastic job communicating with us and giving us all the information we needed. All of her staff are so amazing as well! On the day of the birthday party it went so well! All the kids had so much fun, swimming and playing in the indoor waterpark, and the adults had fun too, with the huge waterslides and hot tubs. Once we made it to the birthday party room, we continued the fun and had mellow mushroom pizza per recommendation as well as cake, and a great time celebrating. We would certainly recommend this for any birthday parties, especially if indoors needed, and would love to come back for another birthday party in the future! read more

This place is such a gem!! We brought our kids here for a day of swimming during the winter and they all loved it. There is no longer the playground in the shallow area (they've removed it), but still fun! They have water slides for bigger kids & adults, a small lazy river, some water features, and a vortex with the open swim area too. There's a hot tub but you must be 16 years+. A day pass also gets you access to the rest of the facility, not just the pool. There's restrooms, lockers, and floatation devices. Outside there's a playground and picnic tables too! read more

Today I visited Cub Run Rec center with my sister and our boys. Because of spring break there were a lot of swimmers so a wait list was enforced at the entry door. We were told there was about 20 min wait. Completely understandable! We waited patiently as we see swimmers exit the building, after school care groups left, etc. After 45 minutes we saw some of the people before us happily being called. We decided to ask how many more people ahead of us and one lady rudely replied "I don't know" while the lady next to her said 2 people as she looked at her list. I thanked her because she had a friendly demeanor unlike the other one. Unfortunately, the impatient lady probably got upset and the whole room cleared as she called their names and even looked at me. Once we realized everyone was called except us we decided to join the line and go in ourselves. To add fuel to the fire, we waited on top to watch our 10 year old boys while they swam below us for a bit. After 30 minutes they NEVER called our names. We didn't have to give them our names when we paid only for the wait list. She was clearly upset. But if you're going to work in customer service you need to be patient and you need to have a friendly demeanor no matter how YOUR day is going. She is a 50+ year woman; no excuse. Mid day weekends are full on birthday parties, angry moms, bored dads and tired out toddlers. Came here last night for a pool birthday party (I hear they're great to host parties) unfortunately we didn't stay long enough to see the party room and how the setup went. Compared to the South Run Rec center this place was disgusting! The pool area for kids (once opened) was really cool don't get me wrong but the bathrooms were in such bad shape, dirty, and disgusting it really soured the experience for us. Not sure if it's cause it was late in the day (5pm) but I'm embarrassed a Fairfax county run red center would be so dirty... I found it amusing since a kid had accidentally pooped in the pool so they closed the pool for over an hour to "clean" it?! Maybe during the time nobody was there since it was closed they coulda spot checked the bathrooms?! We were hoping to love this place so we could join and take our daughter there for the indoor swimming area but... hard pass on that since we're going to have to change her and rinse her off in those bathrooms. read more

Cub Run is an awesome community center for the kids and the entire family. They have most gym equipments and amenities at cheaper member fees. We came for the indoor pool in the middle of winter and it was just grand, with slides, sprinklers, mini lazy river, and a hot tub for the adults (have to be 16 years old to enter). Our little one had so much fun. The majority of the pool area is shallow so it was not intimidating for our little one. She was accompanied by us of course. The day fee is free for our 2 year old. My husband and I both cost $20 total. We stayed for about 2 hours and I think it was worth it. There were a lot of birthday parties going on when we were there. I am unsure of the pricing for that but I'm sure it's a special price. My only complaint is the cleanliness of the family and general changing stations. Dirty. I know it's hard to keep such areas tidy when it's so busy. But other community centers have done it so it's possible. My goal was to get in and out when I had to juggle everything with a toddler. Too crowded for me. I went at 2pm on a Friday and thought I could have a peaceful swim in the pool. Every lane was taken and part of the pool was closed off for classes. The leisure pool was crowded too. There were also tons of schoolkids everywhere. Must have been multiple summer camps or something going on, but this isn't a place I would want to go as an adult who doesn't have kids and just wants to swim laps and keep in shape. Also at $10 admission it costs a lot considering I didn't even stay because it was so crowded. I would understand a crowd in after-work hours but not during mid-day. read more

I'm updating since we had our party. It was very inexpensive, which was great, and the kids had a lot of fun. There were a number of parents who went down to the pool to watch their kids or help them change, and we didn't get charged for those parents. I do wish they'd update their policy to reflect this, because as it is now, it depends on who's working that day and whether they decide to be strict about charging for each person. I suppose if you get a different staff member, it could end up being expensive, so it's kind of the luck of the draw. For us, everything worked out great, and we had a fun party for about $300. read more

I use to come here to the gym a couple years ago and it wasn't too bad. It's kinda weird with people standing in front of the windows waiting and staring at you while you trying to work out and probably laughing. However, it's clean and spacious. I've taken some classes here like zumba and the instructors are very nice and they are pretty good at what they do. I have also been here for an infant's swim class and the instructor was amazing. The pools are very nice. They have a huge lap pool and on the other side are the slides and play area for kids and a hot tub. It's usually not busy unless you go in the morning on weekends. That's when they have all the swim classes and birthday parties. They have some big rooms in this center for birthday parties too where it's big enough for a table and kids to run around in. The staff is awesome, they are all mostly young but they are very good at customer service. Never had a problem here. The value is great for a drop in for the pool and gym. The gym memberships are actually not even outrageous as you's think. They do have discounts for students also. It's obviously going to be crowded with people because who doesn't want to go to the pool all year round? Kids are going to be everywhere, so you can't expect a pool all to yourself unless you go at non-peak hours. And of course if you go at busy times at the gym, what can you expect? Everyone wants to go after work. read more

Ehh this place is only okay. I might be spoiled and used to the phenomenal gyms of Southern California, but I still expect more than half the treadmills to work when I want to run. There's typically a line to get in (the swipe system is laaaame) and it's insanely expensive ($4.50 for students, $6 for everyone else). At least the equipment is new-ish. I used to have an annual membership here, then switched to buying 25 admissions at a time. Then I got a bike and so my visits here are now sporadic and pay as you go. The good: the place is extremely clean. The staff is nice, and most of the equipment is in good running order. The bad: Only two real eliptical machines, only two rowers, Fox News is always running on one of the flat screen tv's, and a lot of old really sweaty hairy men who don't wipe down machines. The price is kind of hefty for what is offered. I guess they justify it with the two pools, but if you're just wanting to work out you could probably find a better deal elsewhere. read more

What a fun, affordable place to take the kids! I was so impressed at this clever indoor water park, and how affordable it was for a family of 4. I am always saying, anyplace that I can take my 2 and 4 year old on a weekend and burn some time & energy for under $20 bucks, I'm in. This is that place. Family pack admission for a family of 4 is $16. What a steal! The locker rooms inside are clean and big, and everyone is pretty respectful of property and space. The locker rooms spit you right out into the small park for the kids. The water is surprisingly warm! My kids played in this little section for a long time. Once they were settled in, my bf and I headed over to the adult's hottub, that looks out directly into the waterpark so you can keep an eye on those damn kids. When you first step into the hottub it seems scorching, but soon enough your worries will drift away as you relax and wonder why you're here with your kids in the first place. Soon they wanted to wade in the lazy river section that leads into a spinning whirlpool that is actually pretty hard to enter and exit. Occasionally there's some rude dad in there just taking up space and getting in everyone's way, but mostly the kids are in there flinging around back and forth so you'll want to make your exit pretty quickly. There 2 large slides that require you to be at least 48 inches. My bf said the one starting outdoor was really hard on the back but the indoor one was fast and cool. As many other reviews stated, the lifeguards aren't messing around; very whistle-happy. But wouldn't you rather that than having them sleep in their guard chairs? Overall, this is probably the coolest indoor water park I've ever been to. When we were leaving my 4 year old said: "Mom, can we live here?". Nuff said. Add this to our list of favorite kids parks! read more

This review is based solely on the swimming facilities and lessons offered for kids. We've taken two sets of lessons here and have always been happy with both the instructors and the rec center. The Kid-and-Me lessons allow a parent to go in the water with the kiddo, and 30 minutes are filled with the basics of swimming: blowing bubbles, kicking, paddling arms, etc. There is usually a class or two where the kids play in the splash area or use the lazy river. Lifeguards are ever-present and patrolling the waters. Beyond the Men's and Women's locker rooms, there are a handful of "family" rooms for group/mixed-sex changing. I'd prefer families with older kids use these if they don't feel comfortable sending their child in the appropriate locker room alone. Having 6 year old boys in the Women's room is not my favorite. Biggest challenges: parking on a Saturday morning can be tough, so give yourself time and be prepared to park far away and walk. Take 2 quarters for the lockers -- it's just $.25, but I've had quarters get stuck or lockers malfunction and wished I'd had an extra. read more

The pros: Fun fitness classes - and low attendance in the morning, so you can take up as much space as you like. There are two pools - and I love the lap pool plus jacuzzi that can hold up to 15 people without feeling cramped. During the summer, there are nice trails to walk. Cons: When trying to stream music, my service is almost nonexistent in the building. They don't have WiFi - so if you want to stream music or video (like i do whilst on the treadmill or bike) it's not going to happen. It's a bit expensive for a rec-center at $10 a visit. I only go here because it is near my work. It's decent for in and out gym use - but nothing amazing. read more

Review for splash area only... $16 for 5 of us. Can't beat it. We have a 8, 6, and 3 year old. They have a lobby to have some snacks and they take a break for 10 mins at the top of each hour for lifeguard breaks. Locker rooms were clean. And staff was very friendly. They have options for memberships, but since we just use the splash area it doesn't add up for us. It was a bit crowded today, but it is first day of spring break.. But not too crowded or uncomfortable. The lifeguards walk around like robots and are really on top of things. Kids were tired after there for 3 hours so mission accomplished!! Check the schedule before you go to ensure the play features are open. read more

I've been a member for the past 3 years and have had a pleasant experience each time I went but here are some complaints I have and why I'm only giving this gym 2 stars: 1. It is a rather small gym and can be frustrating especially during peak hours when you have to wait your turn on a machine (especially the elliptical with the handles!!) They only have 2 of those and when I go around 6-8, I always have to wait around 10 minutes. 2. Honestly, the only reason why I've been coming here is b/c Lifetime requires year long memberships. It's honestly not the best option for me as I go to school 2 hours away and wouldn't be worth the money if the membership was just sitting there and was not being used! The Rec Center offers one- month memberships, which is perfect during the summer. However, the prices are very high compared to other gyms. 3. Monday-Friday: gym closes at 9pm and pool closes earlier than that I believe and Saturday-Sundays-- closes at 8pm!!!! I find these hours RIDICULOUS. I"m out during the day and come back home late at night and the gym would be already closed!!!! This is why Lifetime is sooo popular b/c its opened 24 hours!!!! That is how any gym should be honestly! I have to plan a time during my day so that I can go work out! It can seriously be a hassle sometime but this is my only option at this time :( Thus, with these 3 reasons, I deduct 1 star for each which equals 2 stars. However, I would like to say that the employees there are very friendly. I am always greeted with a smile when I walk in. read more

The crown jewel of Fairfax County Recreation Centers. It's awesome! Let's review... The bad... *Indifferent, young staff. It should not take more than 5 minutes to scan my id & collect my $8. The good... *Workout equipment that's in pretty good shape, newer beautiful building, awesome swim options. **I visit for yoga class, cardio equipment, or laps in the pool. This past weekend we brought our preschooler to play in the kid's leisure pool (while we took turns going down the adult slides!) It was 2+ hours of happiness. :) Oh, yes, we'll be back. read more

I've been going here for something like three years. The price is fairly typical of some of the higher end gyms and they run %15 percent off discounts ever few months. You can buy either month, quarter year, or year long packages at a time. I go in the mornings when it opens and it is generally not crowded and I have my choice of barbells to work with. I can do deadlifts here (unlike planet fitness) and use chalk. There is only one squat rack, which isn't terrible when the gym isn't crowded. I wish there were at least two though. There is also a platform that you can use for rack pulls and zercher squats in a pinch. The choice of two pools (one god kids and one for adults) is nice. I've found the staff generally very helpful and nice - at least the morning crew as they are the ones I generally interact with. read more

I've been to 3 different Fairfax County Rec Centers and this has been the best so far, with regards to the pool. Oak Marr comes close second. I can only speak for the pool, but it's a good size with plenty of lifeguards. The water is clean and even though they have many classes there, we usually don't have to wait too long for a lane to open (we mostly go after work on weekdays). The locker rooms aren't too shabby either. Granted, at the end of a long day after children have been in and out, it's not the freshest but I do appreciate the shower stalls with solid doors. While Oak Marr may have a bigger pool, their showers only have curtains for doors, and no towel hooks. Water pressure is also better at Cub Run. Drop-in fee for adults is $8, which isn't too bad. During the school year, the competition pool is closed in the late afternoons until 6pm. Staff at the front desk is friendly and efficient. read more

There is no question that this place is nice looking, but since the center has opened, the membership rates are absurdly high. For what they offer it is not worth the price. Not only are the prices high but the pool is small, cramped and overcrowded. (However there is very limited access to pools in the area) The cardio and weight room offer a small and limited variety and the cardio equipment repeatedly sticks and appears to be outdated. (I have went here several times and feel that the machines need to be better maintained). On top of that the people at the front desk can sometimes be short. My advice-drive a little further to Manassas and check out the gyms there. I will not go back here again until they lower their prices. read more

Only giving 3 stars because I'm not sure all that CRR has to offer. I've been a few times for the pool area which is a lot of fun for children. Life guards are super attentive to the children and everything has been clean. It's a very easy process of getting in and getting out. Looks like they have a summer camp program-kids seem to be very happy there. If I did not live so far away I would definitely visit more often to see what other programs are offered here! read more

My family and I have been to this recreation center four times. We had our daughter's fourth birthday party here and everyone had a blast. However, I have found the staff to be discourteous or indifferent on each visit beginning (and especially) at check in at the front desk. The recreation pool is quite fun for children aged one year and up. Children need to be at least 48 inches tall to ride the slides, and this requirement is strictly enforced. The pool is emptied of swimmers every hour for ten minutes. The locker room is large and as clean as you'd expect a county-run rec center to be. The party rooms are very good sized, but candles are not permitted in the party room. It is a nice place to go on a rainy day and a nice place to have a young kid's birthday party. read more

This facility is pretty close to my house, so I stop by often when I can. Whenever I bring my little cousins, they get very excited about the slides. You can see it from the outside and it looks even better inside. It brings out the kid in me to go on the slides, the whirlpool, little slides with water fountains, and the diving boards. They have a lot of staff to watch by if someone was drowning. The pool area is probably what people come to this place for, but there's more. The gym is good since they have one of everything. They seem to always be updating and adding more to their gyms, which is great. I have talked to some of the personal trainers and can say they care a lot about their clients and are passionate to help. They have a lot of activities for decent prices, so you can find almost anything to do and learn here. They have good amounts of parking, I can always find a spot. Lastly I reccomended something to them and actually applied it, they're open minded and that's good. They'll sometimes give samples and snacks at the entrance. I reccomend this place! read more

A large recreational facility that includes a grand pool area. One that features two water slides and a water playground. This is the highlight of the entire facility for me because I've been bringing a very large group of children here for years. They have such a blast! The leisure pool includes a 30ft high slide that exits the building in an enclosed tube, a 20ft high slide with an open tube, a hot tub, a swirling vortex, a smaller version of a Lazy River, an open shallow water area and a water playground area for the wee ones. It's also patroled by numerous lifegaurds around the entire perimeter, including each slide. I always feel like there are plenty of eyes on all the kids, at all times. Because it's indoors, the fun here can be enjoyed year-round! The price for non-member drop in pass isn't unreasonable either. So go ahead... make your kid's eyes light up like the 4th of July when you tell 'em you're taking them swimming in January! read more

We just had our 4-yr old's birthday party here and the experience was EXCELLENT. The staff was phenomenal, the price was reasonable, the 'party room' was set up and ready to go on time, and the pool was clean and perfect for the kids! The staff cleaned up after us and were always asking what else could be done. We got to play in the indoor pool for 1:15 and then had the party room for another hour. The larger party room opened up into a huge playground with 2 large structures which was ours to use as we pleased. When we were in the pool we were very happy to see how 'on it' the lifeguards were. They were never sitting and staffed well. They were nice but very focused on their job. The pool also offers the kids floatation vests at no additional cost in various sizes.
