3.5 stars I happened to be in the area (which was a first) and this up on my search. The staff were super-friendly and helped with recommendations and even game me a free pulled-pork sample as I waited. I went with the "mini" combo, which is best understood as a mini sampler rather than a mini portion as it realistically is enough food for two. True to their word, the smoked wings were delicious. The ribs were okay. Nothing exceptional but not bad either. The coleslaw, baked beans and cornbread were fairly standard too. Lots of fries, which I'm pretty sure are the Cavendish ones from Costco. Best of the frozen fries I guess, but it would be much better if they made them from fresh-cut. They have a ton of free dipping sauces to choose from which was nice. My coworker has done work for this restaurant and constantly sings its praises. So, when she heard I'd be Keswick, she told me to check it out. I love brisket and can't resist buffalo chicken, so my sister and I called ahead and ordered both. Also coleslaw for good measure. It's the days of COVID, so we're social distancing. The restaurant staff were friendly and professional, took our orders by telephone, and brought our food to the parking lot. They had taken precautions to keep us and them safe (wearing gloves, sanitizing the debut machine, etc). It was much appreciated. The brisket was incredible and everyone in the household loved the chicken and coleslaw. I would definitely return. Everything is melt in your mouth and full of delicious smoked flavour. It's basically another level! The ribs have this caramelized outside and smoked tender inside. Thick and juicy! After checking the many 4star ratings I visited this location looking forward to some great BBQ but O was sadly disappointed. After checking out the full menu I selected the Brisket sandwich. Just for context Im big fan of all kinds of BBQ and have had the real deal in Austin,Memphis,Kansas City and all across the U.S. and Canada. Usually I go for ribs or brisket and never order pulled pork as for me with most pulled pork theres so much sauce that it completely obscures the smokey flavour. When I order brisket I expect it to be freshly cut from the brisket juicey and tender... it can be finished with some sauce during the cooking process and even have some on the bun but should never ever be drowned in sauce. The best BBQ joints dont go overboard with the sauce but offer one or more bottles so clients can add more to taste. OK enough about what I expected now to what I got. As their dining room remains closed I had to eat in the car ... when I opened up my meal I thought they had given me a pulled pork sandwich by mistake but sadly this wasnt the case as upon further investigation I could barely determine it was beef. The best way to describe it is that it was brisket pulled and over sauced as if it was pulled pork. No slices at all just this wet goop on a bun. When you combine this horrible meat with what amounts to a wonderbread bun with a few sesame seeds it was mushy and unappetizing... I would have just driven away never to return except that despite only serving take out with many people eating in the parking lot they have decided not to put any kind of Garbage bin or recycling container in the parking lot...no doubt as despite the fact that takeout is greating a ton of garbage they want to save money by not having to deal with it This pretty much sums up their approach to running this business as since I had to go back inside to get rid of my garbage I decided to have a polite chat with the woman at the counter....once I expressed my disappointment in the meat in the sandwich her immediate response was " thats how we do it here" No apology for my being disappointed no offer to give me something else nope just a response clearly letting me know that I was the problem. My parents tried this for the first time a few weeks ago, so when I visited them for Father's Day weekend, we decided to grab some take-out from there. When they went on their own (dine in), they got the Big Bone Combo ($21.95) which comes with 1/2 a rack of ribs, 1 lb of wings, a lot of battered french fries, 2 small slices of cornbread, 1 small serving of baked beans, and 1 small serving of coleslaw. They said the service was quick and pleasant. It was more than enough food for the two of them (and my dad eats more than the average person) so they took a lot of it home to eat later. This time, we got the exact same thing but for the three of us, and the portion was just right to split among 3. There were 7 large ribs, 10 wings, and enough fries where each person got quite a lot. The tiny portions of beans and coleslaw don't really divide out well (they are definitely single-serving portions) but otherwise, it worked well for each person to get quite a large plate of food. In terms of taste, it was all quite good. My mom can't tolerate spicy and doesn't really like flavoured wings, so we got the 'original smoked wings' variety, which were fine, but I'd have preferred one of their flavoured variations such as dry cajun, honey mustard, or hot creamy parm. The ribs were nice and saucy and had a decent amount of meat on the bone. The fries were really nice, and while I barely got any coleslaw, it was creamy and rich. After tax, that works out to about $8 a person if you divide it by 3, and so I'd say it's worth it if you get it to go (eating in, you have to add beverages, tip, etc). If you like baked beans or coleslaw, I suggest paying 1 or 2 bucks more and getting a few more of those as sides, so each person has a full side. I would return -- maybe to try their burgers or their other kinds of wings. I took a picture of their menu. This would probably have been a 5 star rating if there wasn't just a slight smacking of "Canadian-ness" to some of the items. From my experience Canadian's have no clue what good BBQ is and thankfully this place is owned by 2 Americans. Seems like Canada has fallen in love with shitty microwave style pulled pork and you can find it almost anywhere these days *cough*cough* The Smokery in Stouffville *cough*cough*. Had the beef brisket sandwich, which I believe said comes sliced but what I got was pretty much pulled and then sauced. Would have liked to be able to choose the amount of sauce I wanted (BBQ purists will tell you that BBQ should be served without sauce allowing the diner to apply the amount they deem appropriate). A little too much sauce for me but the flavor were pretty much bang on. French fries were the battered kind, which aren't my favorite either but pretty damn good none the less. Beans tasted essentially like out of a can, but I didn't mind so much. The portions here are really big. Ate the whole sandwich which was probably over 1LB. But couldn't finish the mountain of fries I got. All in all, I'd say this is pretty much as good as casual BBQ will ever be in Canada. You can get way way way better BBQ from the back of a truck in Austin, TX, but for the great white north, this is great. If you have a hankoring for BBQ, anyone of the Big Bone locations has you covered. If you live around Stouffville area and are considering The Smokery in town, TRUST ME, save your money and make the 20min drive up to Keswick or Newmarket for Big Bone. I think the food is pretty decent, but i should of asked for different sauces. The brisket sandwich was good but the sauce they mixed in it was way too sweet as well as the smoked wing sauce. So if you like some spice or saltiness, then get them to coat it in something else. The lemon pepper wings were really bland but cooked well, didnt taste lemon or pepper. My companion and I were en route to a party in Keswick and did not want to arrive hungry so we we decided to drop in on this Big Bone based on its four star rating. We both decided on a brisket sandwich which came with fries, and small containers of coleslaw and beans. We were optimistic given the steady stream of customers and the half hour wait. The food arrived but when we opened the sandwiches, the meat was buried in sauce and shredded a la pulled pork. A bite revealed that what brisket flavour there was , had been mostly obliterated by the sugary tomato sauce. This brisket could have been over cooked but because it was shredded beyond recognition, no on would be the wiser. To be clear, we were not completely sure it was in fact brisket because the lack of any of the texture and flavour of nicely smoked brisket . We found out it was brisket because when I returned with our bag of garbage(people eating in their cars and no garbage containers outside???) I asked if it was brisket we had. The manager said it was. I asked why it was the consistency of pulled pork and was told" that's how we do it here."I remarked in the south with brisket like that they would not get far. The manager replied that we are not down south. And, of course, they are right. So, if you like your meat flavour masked by tomato and sugar with decent(when hot) prefab fries, this is your place. If you prefer to taste the flavour and texture of meat, stay away. After I got home and told my wife where we ate and what it tasted like, she commented" Oh I could have told you that. It's exactly the same at their location in Whitby." Oh well, I'll know better next time I am hungry for BBQ. read more

But then I'd question why you'd enter an eating establishment with a facade consisting of a rock-and-roll pig surrounded by sauce as your first choice anyway. I'm a big fan of fall-off the bone ribs and this place delivers every time. The ribs are always well sauced with their own signature in house BBQ sauce, which you can purchase should you want to, and the home made baked beans / coleslaw / and warm cornbread are a must have every time I go. Service is without frills but adequate and pleasant, and the price comes in at what I've come to expect from similar establishments at between $15-$25 depending on your entree. BIG BONE! What a spot! The Waitresses are very polite and observant, they don't bug you but always make sure everything is going smoothly. The Chefs are the coolest dudes I've ever had make my food. Big Bone BBQ in Keswick is one of the best in the town for wings or ribs. Anyone who stops by needs to try the smoked wings, they are fantastic. While I certainly wish that they had draft beer, I think that Big Bone is best gotten as takeout to enjoy at home watching TV. The service is okay and the seating is what you would expect from a place like this the food certainly is a hidden gem. This is our first time visiting on a Tuesday evening. Pulling up it looked more like a take out only place. The waitress was not friendly. Beer comes only in cans. The feel of the place is like an old high school cafeteria. My son (10) was dissapointed by his choices and no deserts available. I had asked if they could do flats only for my wings and that was not really an option she said. So I had ribs. The ribs where ok. Not really my style I'm sure if you like smoky flavor you'd love it. I believe it was the owner that served my father and I the ribs. He seems nice and very polite. Upon leaving we didn't get to review our bill. She just gave us the total. I even asked if we could review it first and she didn't budge. So we paid $90.70 blindly. My son's meal was supposed to include a drink. We were charged for it. 3 beers $15, 3 pops $4.50, 6 bone dinner $15.95 x 2, chicken fingers and wings $10.95 each. Kids meal 4 wings $6.50. We will not be returning. I have been here several times and each time it has been great. There has regularly been a line of people at the counter waiting for pickup each time I have gone. The restaurant is small with only about 6-8 tables for diners and they do a lot of takeout from the main counter. It is clean and simple inside and the wait staff has done their job each time, checking on us and making sure everything was ok. I would not recommend it as a first date option but I am sure there are some extra classy Keswick couples that would find it perfect to shovel huge amounts of messy food by hand less than 2 feet across a table from each other at a first meetup. The portions are made for lumberjacks. There is an Elvis combo that gives you a little bit of everything and I just realized while writing this review that it is because Elvis was a fat ass and could eat a large meal before he died.... ha. Anyways, the fries are great, you get a lot of them. The ribs are great. The pulled pork is tasty. The chicken wings are on the small side but tasty, I always just get the smoked wings and have never been disappointed.
