Hungry on a drive through the Quad Cities and leading to Chicago, we stopped at a terrific place on the Mississippi River shore and so glad that we did! LeClaire is a fun river town, and at its north entry point is Big Dave & Holly's, with both indoor and outdoor seating, and a fabulous vibe. Loved meeting Holly, and the interior of the place is wonderful, with photos and signs, and all kinds of personality. (Hint: there is a duplicated sign if you can find them) Had a great burger with bacon, and I love crinkle fries! Added a tasty cole slaw side and onion rings. One of the best burgers I have had in a while. Enjoyed a hot fudge sundae with M&Ms for dessert! But it was the overall vibe of the place that resonated, as locals and travelers mingled and interacted with Holly, who is wonderful. I am absolutely coming back! read more

A friend of mine works here, and recommended that I stop in for the tenderloin. I'm afraid that I didn't take her advice. Instead Copilot Jimmy and I saw the Reuben sandwiches on the menu, and decided that we didn't need to look any further. These sandwiches, grilled to perfection, were piled with meat- real, honest-to-goodness corned beef, not some thin slices of lunch meat. Honestly it's an old, dumpy place, and tiny. But...the food is great! They are nice people and we support them.

Workers were nice, food was good. However didn't finish it. Only ate about half of my club sandwich before I lost my appetite. So many mayflies everywhere and landing on my food. I know they can't help it because they're located by the river. But still grossing me out to the point I don't want to eat what I paid for. Very small building not a lot of room for people unless you sit outside. The tabletops were sticky and felt like they haven't been wiped down in a while. This is a cute retro diner/ ice cream place. The help are friendly and responsive. The service was quick. There is a beautiful Mississippi River view. The food was well prepared and tasty. The ice cream was soft serve . Solid vanilla flavor and creamy. We did take a to go burger for our son and requested no mustard. He wasn't happy when there was mustard. My family & I came to visit the Pickers store and over heard a cashier tell another customer about this place. It was a good thing! The service was friendly and the food was good. Warning though: it's a really small place! We had 9 of us & we nearly filled the place up. One highlight for me was the view of the river. My Dad worked on the MS river for 35 years so, I sat at the window bar area and watched the boats move barges. Brought back some good memories. My Aunt and I had the steak salad...it was delicious. This is a great lunch place if you like drive in ice cream shops! The breaded tenderloin is huge and they will split it for you to share. It was average. The double hamburger was a great burger. The ham and cheese sandwich was good as well. The French fries were hot and tasty, but the best side was the coleslaw! Our rater said it's a 9/10! Ice cream was delicious and very reasonably priced. If you are local to Le Claire, you already know. If you are from out of town, you probably wouldn't end up here due to the location and tiny confines. it is a very small, very local establishment that is beloved by the community here for good reason... but not exactly something you'd travel for. HOWEVER, if for whatever reason you are wondering about this place: get their chicken cord on blue (intentional). It is awesome for what it is. It is sort of like Arby's attempt at it, but the grilled ham is far superior than most establishments that make these types of sandwiches. it just needs a better bun that they could toast on the flat top for a couple minutes. the fries are terrible. almost everything out of their fryer is bad. it seems crazy, but yes, you can make fryer food bad... which they do. I think a little salt and pepper right out of the fryer would really help. Anyway, get the potato salad. get the chili. the potato salad and chili are great. i've heard their soups are also really good. you don't need fryer food anyway. this place just needs a little bit of culinary tweeking to make it better, but forever in a day, most people in Le Claire have just been really glad that it is here. We really wanted to try the tenderloin that the locals highly recommended, but we had stopped at Cracker Barrel for breakfast, and were just not THAT hungry... So glad we stopped here over anything else in town. We came to town for a roadtrip stop at American Pickers, Antique Archaeology. Went there for the breaded pork tenderloin. We were very disappointed! I had to tell the server that it was our order as she was on her way out the door. The breading on the tenderloin was falling off in chunks. It was also very soggy and undercooked. The whole time we were there I didn't get one order right. Stopped through on our way to Dubuque. Super nice staff and owner, Holly. She suggested I try her homemade chicken salad, and she offered it over a salad vs the normal wheat toast. It was fantastic!! My boyfriend had the chicken tender loin, which was so big and delicious!! I tried a bite, and it reminded me of home (small town farm food). As an ex local this is old school LeClaire cuisine. Customer service is always great, food is consistant, and a good value. I also dig the location next to the railroad,the river, and the barge traffic. Eating outside in the summer is a fun small town way to spend mealtime with family at this locally owned eatery.
