In all fairness it looks like a lot of these reviews might be for pillar candles. Last Christmas I purchased Big Dipper beautiful red tapers for a formal dinner party I was giving. The tablecloth I chose was vintage Brandenburg lace. Right in the middle of the dinner party one of my guests brought to my attention that the red tapers were copiously dripping red beeswax on my vintage tablecloth. I remained calm and did not disrupt the dinner party. With a certain amount of savoir-faire, I explained that I had superb dry cleaners and that they would take care of the problem the following Monday -- which they did for a very expensive $40 bill. Thankfully, however, my beautiful tablecloth was restored. Sometimes I can be a slow learner. I purchased a gorgeous pair of orange tapers for the following Thanksgiving. Using different candlesticks I attempted to place these tapers without success. They kept falling out just as the Christmas tapers had done the year before from different candlesticks. I trimmed the base and melted a little wax from the rounded bottom of each taper into the candlestick. I chose crystal candlesticks that could accommodate both pillar candles or tapers thinking that that would protect my orange pumpkin tablecloth from drips. In both cases it was a nightmare getting the tapers to stay upright but I finally managed it. Again, the candles copiously dripped beeswax. These candles are lovely but they are too much trouble. I will not be purchasing them again. read more

These candles are a whole 'nother world of candle, and I can't believe they are made in Seattle (well, not that surprised). We are all so lucky to have them here. Lucky is the person who has a Big Dipper Wax candle. I first tried their candles when I bought them at a PCC market. I was obsessed with the Meditation smell (rosewood and cedarwood), so I went to their website and ordered the discounted Valentine's and Christmas candles to try more! They came in the mail with an extra gift! There was a hand written note on my invoice that said thank you for the order and that they included a free lip balm. I love it! My lips were indeed extra dry that morning, and the calendula oil with vitamin E, peppermint, beeswax, etc. really helped and felt light on my kisser. I haven't tried burning the Valentine's candles yet, but the smell in that box is even more amazing than I had imagined it could be. Check them out. read more

Great experience! I drove into Georgetown on a grey, dreary, rainy Seattle winter day and almost got lost in the warehouse maze trying to find Big Dipper Wax Works. A quick call revealed that I was parked right in front of their factory/warehouse. Despite the nervous beginning, I highly recommend a trip to buy your candles in person. The friendly staff, heady scent of essential oils, and Grease soundtrack playing on the sound system made my heart grow three sizes that day! read more

We have been lighting the Chanukah candles I bought in January and they are wonderful! They burn cleanly w/o dripping and they have a sweet natural smell. I still have another box for next year, but will be ordering one or two boxes in a while when they go on sale. read more

Nice products. But once they have your info they will treat you like a commodity and will keep hammering you with marketing forever, despite your endless requests for them to stop. If you value your privacy you give your personal information to these guys at your own peril. read more

These candles are the best. I use a lot of candles for prayer and meditation purposes and was accustomed to using cheap scented ones from Michael's and similar-type stores. Having been told about harmful effects of fake and potentially toxic chemicals in those candles, I decided to switch back to 100% beeswax, despite the added cost. They are expensive, but totally worth it. Check out the sale candles. The ones I've ordered have just slight imperfections and burn exactly like the others. Tea lights are brighter than a flashlight and last for over 5 hours. Always appreciate the handwritten note on the invoice and the free honey sticks! read more

Ordered 7 candles online one late night, they were shipped out the very next morning. There was a slight delay beyond the promised delivery (probably because of the fact that i live clear on the other side of the states...lol) and i called and had the most pleasant customer service exchange. The package was at my door when i got home and opening it was like Christmas early! I mistakenly thought their facility had a physical store for directly purchasing products, but the folks at BDWW were good enough to sell me votives that I could buy and pick up. I have called about my issue with tunneling & the gal that answered was not empathetic. I was told "not to trim wick" & that was it. I did so & still have pooling+tunneling. I love my scent but it's not worth the cost (wouldn't mind price) if burned correctly & no wasted wax. Customer service is disappointing. read more

I've ordered these candles a couple times off the web. I normally hate scented candles, and so does my fiance. I was burning a couple of these all weekend last week and my fiance commented that, "I'm so glad these are your idea of a scented candle. I've never smelled a candle I liked before."
