Eventually, an employee arrived in a van, seemingly returning from a pick-up run. He asked how he could assist us, and I mentioned that we were interested in the 2-hour paddle--their most popular option--referencing the sign that clearly stated it was available anytime before 3 PM. We had arrived just after 2 PM. However, he informed us that they were closed and no longer offering that paddle for the day. I pointed out that both the sign and the website indicated that the last drop-in time was 3 PM. He acknowledged this but explained that since it was towards the end of the season and business was slow, they had decided to close early to avoid losing money. It would be helpful if the website and signage were updated to reflect these changes, or at the very least, if the information was honored. We had planned this activity for our afternoon during our short stay in North Georgia, and it was disappointing to find it unavailable despite the posted information.

My family and friends just got back from an amazing vacation. We had 5 boys with us ranging from 6…read moreyears old to 12 years old. Water park was amazing-all slides were open for us when we went. Some rides are single and a lot were double tube, which makes it a blast! The sand was pristine, soft and clean! My 6 year old was able to go on all rides except we didn't try the Intimidator & Triple Threat (thrill level 5) BUT the older boys loved it! The life guards were lively and fun-had red white and blue hats and girls had sparkles and festive. Each ride my little one went on, they all would cheer and give high 5's! We stayed on the beach part and rented a Palapa. The Palapa gave shade for the entire family (10). All food and snack places open!!! Pizza, ice cream, dip n dots, tiki bars-yes plural, restaurants. Also, restrooms directly behind the Palapas!!!! Mushroom watering were replaced with cool surfboard cool and rinse stations- If that wasnt enough you can hop right behind the rinse stations to Parakeet Springs, which we did a walk through to MANY time to mini water falls-buckets of water (like the mushrooms), sprinklers and plenty of places to cool of. Lastly they also give teacher, first responder/nurse and military discounts if you mention it when purchasing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME!!!!! THANK YOU best time ever!

There are also a few side trails that climb up the mountain if you're looking for a bit more of a challenge (including dodging Joro spiders!). We lost our stick and jumped out to get it. The river rocks are very unforgiving to feet. Bring water shoes in case you end up outside your tube. We were strapped together and ran the strap through our shoes to keep from losing them. We got caught in a torrential rain fall. It was no one's fault and we finished the float anyway. I would go back and do it again.

You WILL probably get stuck on rocks a few times, but honestly that's what makes it fun and usually leads to the funniest moments of the day. The river itself is really pretty and it's such a fun way to spend time with friends and cool off in the summer. I'd definitely recommend wearing water shoes because the rocks are no joke. The tubing process itself has always been pretty easy for us and it's something we keep coming back for every year. Overall, if you're going to Helen in the summer and want something fun and laid back to do, I definitely recommend giving Cool River Tubing a try. I suggest getting there right when they open at 9am for shorter wait times and easy parking!
