Bought four yards of what was supposed to be compost. When delivered, the bags were placed in front of garage blocking the car in. Called Big Earth and talked with the owner who was extremely rude and yelled at me when I asked him to have someone come out and move the ton of dirt in my driveway! Very unprofessional. Worst part was that the composted soil was prepared improperly and now after three months of pulling and treating the composted area for the weeds that grew, I have a spurge infestation along with other unknown weeds that I cannot get rid of. I will NEVER use this place ever again. BEWARE of what you are buying. The weeds are my worst nightmare and impossible to get rid of. This business is evil. read more

My husband John recently called Big Earth Landscape for a repeat order, for composted soils similar to what we had ordered in October of 2024. We were extremely pleased with that product and wished to have another 10 yards delivered, to fill our new raised bed planter boxes. He reasoned that all he would have to do is call the Palmetto location and order what he had ordered last year. Unbeknownst to him, the screening process and content for this soil had changed from last year to this year and it was not pointed out to us that there had been a change in soil composition, so he proceeded with the purchase. We spent 300.00 for the soil and 100.00 for delivery. After the soil was delivered my husband noticed that it was not the same composition as the previous soil, and he was upset that the wrong product had been delivered. He went to the store and spoke with a woman at the desk who basically said they delivered what he ordered, and we were stuck with it. My husband asked if they could come and take the soil away and deliver the soil we had wanted and her answer was, she had the name of a landscape company who would haul it away. So, we would be out the 400 for the wrong product and still be in need of a composted soil. I encouraged my husband to call the corporate office, reasoning that they would want to correct this mistake as soon as possible. He wrote a letter and emailed it to the corporate office; 5 days went by without an answer. I called them today and spoke with a gentleman who basically said they were not in error, we were and that they would not move to correct the problem. I told him this wasn't a good way to do business and that I would make this entire situation public on social media and the BBB. A few minutes later a very abrupt, unidentified man called me back saying he had been notified that a problem had escalated, and he was called to fix it. I spent the next 20 minutes being lectured by this person, saying his soil was what I wanted, and "explaining" to me how I should be planting my raised beds. He talked over me, really didn't give me a chance to explain that as the customer, I knew what I had wanted, and this soil wasn't it. He went on and on and finally I said, this is not how you run a business, and you have lost a very loyal customer of long standing. What a huge shame that this is what passes for service today. Buyer Beware: We bought multiple yards of top soil only to discover it was INFESTED with termites. We tried nematodes to save our garden beds, but had no success even after multiple treatments. (There were so many termites in this soil!) I called Big Earth to ask for suggestions, was told they had never heard of that happening (our soil came from the big pile, so some other poor schmuck had to have purchased from the same batch, what a silly lie) and that someone would call me back. Of course, that has never happened. Horrible product. Horrible customer service and accountability. We emptied all of our raised metal beds and hauled the infested soil to the dump and had to repurchase soil from elsewhere and replant. (Our garden is now thriving.) Buyer beware and definitely AVOID. read more

Absolutely horrible! We just moved to Sarasota from Chicago and ordered landscaping rock from Big Earth. It was supposed to be delivered on our driveway. The delivery man dumped 1/4 of it in our newly mulched flower beds and lawn. He said we'd have to pick the rock out by hand. I called the store to share our experience and the owner began arguing with me and before he hung up yelled that if we dispute the charge he'd put a lien on our home. Extremely unprofessional. I would highly recommend working with another landscape supply company. We are now working with C C Landscaping supply in Bradenton. C C is less expensive than Big Earth, they delivery to Sarasota and are extremely professional. We highly recommend C C. read more

I have been a loyal customer for several years and purchased sod and garden supplies several times a year. The dry summer has made sod extremely dry and Big Earth requested that I reserve fresh cut sod before coming to their nursery. I reserved 20 pieces for pick up Sat 19th. I drove home; unloaded the sod; noticed so much sand in my car which fell off the back of the the sod. Big Earth closes 1:00 Sat; I called Monday morning and reported the defective product. No refund; No credit and management admitted they knew what condition the sod was in before selling it. Unbelievable indifference to customer service; customer loyalty and selling inferior product. Do not buy from here!! I paid 750$ to have 27 stepping stones sent to me from Tampa to Atlanta. A third of them were broken upon delivery. They only refunded me the cost of the stepping stones which was $17 each but to ship them was over $200. And then when I was placing the ones I did receive unbroken, if the ground is not perfectly level the break. They are not worth your money. They are so fragile. I thought being so think they would be perfect. NOT TRUE. They break. DO NOT BUY HERE. I bought 27 pavers and 7 were damaged upon delivery and another 6 from gentle handling or not on PERFECTLY smooth earth. They will break. We picked up 25 squares of what was supposed to be zoysia but turned out to be St Augustine grass. You couldn't actually tell what it was at the time of pickup because it was all brown but they said it was zoysia. After we planted it right next to our other zoysia and it greened up it was obviously St Augustine. Big earth wouldn't exchange it despite talks with the manager and a letter to the main office. Resoded my back yard. All the prep work was done correctly. The sod that was delivered looked terrible but was told it would come around. Not so much!! Sodded again. When delivered it looked ok but only to find out that when you picked the sod up it fell apart. Its the only product I have ever purchased that has no support from the seller. I called big earth looking for someone put done new sod for me they told me the guy (Ricky Morales) that they use does a great Job So I hired him they charged me 3400.00 which was fine. And then the trouble began he didn't finish the job was sick then he never contacted me so I had to finish the job after that he was suppose to come out and place fertilizer on the new sod never showed up I sent him several text he promised to refund some of the money and again he lied. Big Earth was vital to Sarasota Hurricane Irma prep. The staff was informed, well organized, and relaxed, as stressed customers filled sand bags for FREE. Even when the sand bags ran out, Big Earth allowed customers to bring their own bags and keep filling. Honestly, the calm temperament of the staff was refreshing and made me want to come back for future landscaping needs. read more

This is such a great company, not only were they giving sand out to the community, all of their employees were very pleasant in the midst of chaos. Some of them were outside in the pouring rain helping people fill their sandbags. The contractor who installed my sod worked for Big Earth. He laid down poor quality sod and when I questioned him about it he reassured me that it was fine. About half of my yard is dying, even under the care of a lawn and pest control service. I have talked to Big Earth and they explained they do not guarantee sod, the contractor never mentioned this to me. I am disappointed that their only response to me was " Too bad" their is nothing we can do. You can't trust Big Earth for your sod. read more

I called to get topsoil delivered on a Saturday morning and received it in less than an hour. Fantastic customer service, especially the warehouse manager who delivered it. He spent the time with me figuring where the best place would be to drop it at my home to meet my needs. Very impressed and would definitely recommend them. read more
