this place is awful. we did a DoorDash for them today. they had literally no one in front of us but it took them almost 45 minutes to put together the customers 3 item order. they also just ignored us while we were waiting. absolutely awful food place. my suggestion is go to McDonald's, even they have better service. if I could give this place less stars I would. read more

The ol' sidekick and I decided not to toss a stone too far from the banks, this evening. So, we hopped over to the quiet Fargo suburb of Horace. Horace ain't got too much goin' on, but they got a joint right on the main drag, County Road 17, that keeps the parkin' lot full on a Friday night. I've been wanting to drop in for a while. Once the sun goes down, Big Erv's ain't too hard to find. It's where all the lights are on when all the other lights are off. Crackin' the door lets loose a cacophony of jibs tryin' to outwork one another and it is LOUD. These folks are havin' a pretty good time. Self-seating meant we had to do a bit of meanderin' before we fixed on a roost. I wasn't quite sure that anyone would know we were buried back there behind all the other good timin' patrons. Sure enough, though a bit delayed, ol' Jamer (yep, that's the name) set up our tab. A quick assessment of the bibliography told me that my wallet was about to get a little of Big Erv's broad backhand. Seriously. I don't mind shreddin' a little cabbage on a weekend, but the appraisal of the merchandise does not jive with the value. 1/3rd lb. burger was gonna peel 12 leaves off the cabbage head. That's a premium price for a tiny ship like Big Erv's. But, I'm a fighter, so I'm going up against the ol' Horace 5-Alarm, a burger topped with jalapenos and pepper jack. My buddy opted for the pulled pork. Now, we knew this was going to be a sleeper, 'cause the place was jammed up. It looked like ol, Jamer was workin' the entire floor as a solo project. Dang, Jamer was dancin' around packed tables like a bullfighter! Yeah, the grub was draggin' a bit, but Jamer was puttin' forth a warrior's prayer tryin' to keep mugs topped. It takes a heartless dude to shame a guy workin' that stress level. Eventually, a couple slabs landed on the table. My burger was right about what a 1/3# patty ought to be. Good melt and good toppings. The bun was way below the ticket price, though. C'mon guys! A small grip of frozen rings. A bit of buyer's remorse sneaked into my soul. Predictably, the burger was disproportionate to the price. Since I shouldered an upsell to onion rings, I took a three bone bonus hit, bringing me to 15 leaves. Three more for my beverage, and I am double-tabbin' without throwing a hot tip. That is some Las Vegas price tag, right there. The good news is that the burger did rock pretty good. I wouldn't call it 5-Alarm, unless 3 alarms were burglar alarms, but it wasn't a total robbery. It had some heat. A bottle of Cajohns Reaper would have been a nice add, but that's a hard sell for some folks. I get it. Rings were hot and crispy. Deep down, not a bad dining experience. Our drinks were reliable topped, which was nice. The bottom line is, if your cabbage can take the ol' jab-cross-uppercut, then it's worth rollin' in on Big Erv's. It's a fun place with decent eats. If you gotta be a bit more parental to your paycheck, however, you might take your bankroll to one of Fargo's hot-tops. One person is gonna feel the pain a bit, but if you tow a family, Big Erv's is gonna do big damage with the lead hook to the bank card. Fargo has plenty of hash slingers who will give to 25% more for 25% less. I don't know how you balance the ledger, but mine has to remain in the black. I prefer more bang for the buck. If you do stop in Big Erv's, try to get a spot covered by Jamer. He was a snappy tapper who knew his game. A guy that gets beat up like that by the boss needs a bit of cushion to soften the blows. Listen, people! These servers gotta do it all. Make sure you set aside some capital for your hireling. If you can play, you can pay! Be awesome! Had a bad experience and the general manager came over to "resolve" the issue and she only made it worse. Terrible person and manager.

I use to like Big Ervs but their service is not good at all. We got take out and they delivered but forgot half of our food. So they went back to get it and our food was cold and soggy. Decided to give Big Ervs a second chance so we went for dinner but again we were forgotten about. We got our food but the taco salad I had ordered was missing the meat and the dressing so the waitress took it back to correct the order and she never came back. When she decided to come back it was only with a receipt and we were charged for a salad we didn't get. I mentioned this to her so she took the salad charge off but no apology at all. We didn't leave a tip. read more

We've come here a few times and enjoyed the patio. Were there last night and noticed new tables on the patio which were nice. However, there was no service on the patio. No problem. Went to get our own beers and were told we don't have wait staff to service you. No beer menus either and you can't eat outside if you want to eat. I looked around and counted 9 employees and 10 patrons inside. Weird. No problem. I can carry 4 beers outside. Took awhile to get our beer order filled because some of the staff (3) ignored us standing at the bar. Asked how we would know if there is service outside if we want to come back another day. "maybe there is, maybe there isn't. Depends on staffing". Guess we'll look for another patio or stay home on our own patio. read more

Irish I were Irish was a very good ruben. I think the owner said they make their own corned beef. Pumpernickel bread had a nice crispness and crunch to it. Good sauerkraut gave the right amount of zing. Again, staff was very attentive and made sure my drink was never empty. Looking forward to going back. read more

I was there noon on a weekday with my family. I have been here previously and it was "ok"- this time it was simply bad. I ordered the chicken bizzo. The bacon was burned, the chicken was over cooked. If I was not so North Dakota nice, I would have returned it. Also although kids are welcome until 9 pm, unless you want them to learn new words and experience drunks in action, it would be best to get take-out- if you dare to. read more

Got off work early on a Friday and went for a motorcycle ride. A buddy and I ended up in Horace and stopped at Big Erv's for a bite to eat and a drink before getting back on the road. The 5 alarm was good but not what I would consider 5 alarm. The ceaser's were really good. Wait staff was great, kept the ceaser's full and nice and spicy. Great place. It reminded me of "Cheers" with an added bonus=it's also a family friendly atmosphere-great vibe. Written on the menu it says kids are welcome until 9pm. Which I thought was great. I'm from out of town, and it was fun watching so many people that knew each other greet one another and enjoy each others company. VERY FRIENDLY! Very kind staff. I have absolutely nothing bad to say about the food! Every time that we go in the food is on point. What I do have a problem with is the service. The last two times I have been in we have had absolutely horrible service, one at lunch and one at dinner. Stopped in for dinner on a Friday night. It took a long time to be noticed but it was busy so I can let that slide. I ordered the 8 oz sirloin medium. The steak came well done and was pretty tough. I can't really blame the cook as I think it's just a cheap steak off the truck. For 17.99 I expected more. I'd recommend sticking with a burger. My boyfriend and I LOVE Big Erv's, however when we were there last Thursday we had the worst experience we have ever had. Jess was our server and we sat at the table for 10 minutes before she even acknowledged we were sitting there. She then said she would come back to get our drink order and when she finally came back we said we were ready to order food as well...she looked and acted beyond annoyed. Was it busy in there? Yes, however it was also wing night, which requires nothing more for a server than bringing a basket to the table while customers go get their own wings. We will be back, because we love the food and normally have great service, but this time was way off the mark. read more

Not too impressed. I've been to BIG ERV's about 4 times and everytime I order a drink, I have to ASK for my change. Give the bartender a $20 dollar bill and have to ask for change for 1 drink? I got $13 bucks back after paying for 1 drink. QUITE EXPENSIVE and UNACCEPTABLE to say the least. Another time, a friend and I came in and sat at the bar. He got the first round (2 drinks) and paid for it. It was about 15 minutes later ordered the same drinks but the price was different after I had to ask for my change AGAIN. This wasn't during a happy hour or anything. They could have a good thing going if they don't "forget" to give their change back. Or aren't they getting tipped very well that they include it in the prices? read more
