We ended up at the Lotz House Museum, and it turned out to be one of those unexpectedly memorable experiences. On this particular day, we lucked out with Chuck as our guide. He is a former high school history professor, and you can tell immediately. He does not just recite facts, he brings everything to life with stories, details, and just the right amount of drama. The house itself is not large, but that almost works in its favor. Between the stories of the Lotz family and the vivid accounts of the Battle of Franklin happening right outside, you can practically see it all unfolding as you move from room to room. It is the kind of experience that sticks with you long after you leave, and at around seventeen dollars, it feels like an absolute steal. And do not skip the gift shop. Treat yourself to a peach Nehi soda on your way out. It is unexpectedly fantastic, and I am still thinking about how to get my hands on more.

It so happens that Erin was our driver/tour guide again as I got a text from her the day before. Unfortunately, the day the trip, Ray turn out to be our guide but Erin was still our driver. It worked out great! We got two for the price of one. Erin mainly drove but did chat here and there on the trip. Ray was very knowledgable on so many topics! He did a great job entertaining us on the ride. Ray was also very thoughtful and considerate of everyone in the van. He made sure we were always hydrated with water and the temperature in the van wasn't too cold. The worst part of the trip was the rain. When we stopped for lunch, Ray and Erin provided us with ponchos just in case. We end up not needing them. When we got to Jack Daniels, both of them were adamant that we should take the ponchos just in case. As it turns out, it down poured right at the start of the tour. I mean as soon as you walk out those doors to take pics and then board the bus, it came down hard!! Thankfully we were able to throw on our ponchos! At one point everyone was listening to YMCA and doing the dance that goes with the song. Tour is about 12 minutes long and we cruised through the atrium which took us through every section of the resort. There are lush gardens, waterfalls and it is very peaceful even with the music. I jammed out to Opalite by Taylor Swift and Amy and I chatted about her recent wedding and how happy we are for her! It was so nice that I plan to take another regular tour during my time at the resort. FIVE STARS!

We walked enough to get a bit of exercise but not to be tired, and we saw some great sites along the tour as it was 1 hour and 50 minutes for us and only one big hill. As a history teacher, I definitely picked up some interesting stories to bring back to class next year, and I learned some cool stats on Nashville and a bit of the behind the scenes on some of the country music stars of the area. It was really worth it. My husband does not love stuff like this, he'd rather grab a bite and do our own adventuring, but he was really pleased we did this as well. I first learned about free walking tours during my international travel. Now,  wherever I'm…read moretraveling to I always check to see if they have a tour.  Luckily, I was able to join an available tour for the downtown area on a Sunday morning. The day was cold and dreary, but I still had an amazing time. The tour guide, Paul, was excellent. He kept the tour entertaining and educational. Paul seemed very passionate about the history and culture of Nashville. The tour lasted a little over an hour, and at the end, he gave us suggestions and directions based on our interests. I loved his honesty on places he thought we would or wouldn't enjoy based on our interests.  These tours are a great way to meet other travelers while enjoying the major attractions.  Of course, the tours aren't completely free because guides do accept gratuity, which they truly deserve.

With a friendly, helpful and knowledgeable staff we couldn't have had a better experience. This is a beautiful and stunningly gorgeous mansion that was owned and maintained for years by the Maney family. Although during the week days it's a self guided tour there were plenty of signs/markers in each room that explained much. Plus there was a docent who around who answered all questions and in fact offered my wife to see a video of the upstairs. Unfortunately my wife's arthritis had made it a bit difficult to climb up the stairs to see the beautiful bedrooms. We truly enjoyed our visit and my wife even purchased a pie bird in the gift shop as a memento.

That sweet couple saw an abandoned place (a land mark community hone) and knew they could fix it to nearly the original splendor. It is soooo worth spending the day there, and take advantage of the sweet little cafe. We just loved our lunch. The home was built with all the modern conveniences when indoor plumbing or electric were unheard of! It saw many different owners, including a doctor who turned the home into a hospital! It was even where the first hip surgery was ever done in the county. A must see!!!
