The shoreline offered a mix of natural overlooks, parks, marinas, and small developed areas, giving me multiple ways to experience the lake rather than a single central viewpoint. The main highlight for me was the lake itself and the variety of ways to interact with it. The water felt calm and clean in many areas, and the region is especially known for boating, cruising, and lakeside relaxation. Along the surrounding shores, vineyards and wineries are a major part of the identity, and I stopped at a few for tastings with scenic views over the water. The small towns around the lake added to the experience, giving me access to picnic areas, walking paths, and casual waterfront spots where I could take in the lake at a slower pace. The experience around Seneca Lake was generally relaxed and spread out, with no single concentrated entry point or structured route. I took a boat tour from one of the marinas, which gave me a more immersive perspective on the water, and I also pulled over at roadside overlooks and shoreline parks for simpler, quieter moments. Crowds varied by season, with summer being more active and the time I visited feeling much quieter.

Set sail for True Love, a truly enjoyable time!…read more Bottom Line Up Front: We had a wonderful, relaxing, and fun time for a good price. The Good: The history of the John Alden designed schooner is worth reading before you go. We had some more "salty" members of our group that recognized the name of the schooner from the 1956 movie "High Society" starring Bing Crosby, Gene Kelly and Frank Sinatra and after that we were on board for a wonderful time. We even were seated in the seats once occupied by Gene and Bing. We purchased our tickets after being approached by Terry who negotiated a decent price with us because he wanted a full boat for the next trip. Captain Bill was an experienced Captain and is well known in the area. He got us underway and was a delightful host regaling us with stories about the "True Love", Seneca Lake and surroundings, as well as, some stories about racing the "True Love" and his crew, Spencer and Marena. Captain Bill even assisted another sailing boat that was in distress and precariously close to the lake edge. The trip was two hours long and on time. The crew served non-alcoholic and adult beverages (some free, some for a price) while underway and also sold some souvenirs (Whisky and glasses). The Bad: There was nothing bad, from start to finish, this was a very enjoyable trip and the crew definitely enjoyed sharing their love of the "Trie Love" with the joyful passengers. The Ugly: Absolutely nothing other than we could not be out for longer. If you find yourself in Watkins Glen, this is definitely an enjoyable to kick back, relax, and let the wind fill your sails. After that we had to rush through the most popular sites due to the number of groups coming through. All that said this is an AMAZING hike. The guide at the South entrance very helpfully sketched out the best ways to see the popular sites based on how far we wanted to walk. This is doable for littler kids if you walk slowly. $10 for parking is a bargain.

Yes they may not be epic cascading falls with millions of gallons of water, but Watkins Glen is an epic place to visit. There is a bit of construction going on for the summer 26 season so do a little research for best places to park or what trails may be impacted. It does absolutely nothing to lower the charm of this park though. If you are in the area and bypass this you have truly missed one of the state's gems!

We stopped by Clute Park to take in the views of Seneca Lake, and it does have some nice views. There are also basketball courts, bathrooms, a food vendor stand (although they didn't look open when we were there), a beach area, a playground, and more. I'm sure it's a great spot for families staying in town (and especially those staying in the campground across the street from the park), but you can only pay for the day (not for the hour), so we spent about $8 to just by for a bit to enjoy the views. It's probably possible to find street or free parking nearby and then walk over, but - since it was a holiday weekend - parking was harder to find than usual. The views from the park were okay, but I'd say this park is really a place for families to use the amenities in the park, not for casual tourists in town.

Apparently there were too many party's on this boat. Every single cushion on this boat had huge tears in them. The boat was wet, full of spiders and moldy. We were told when we got there that we could only go 4 miles out. Also, none of the gauges worked, no depth finder, trim gage or radio. It was embarrassing pulling up to the Tiki bar with everyone staring at this boat that looked like it was falling apart. We have rented boats at Swan Bay in the 1000 Islands for less money and they were very well maintained. Proof is in the pictures! The only reason why I am giving it one star is because the staff was courteous.
