Big Guy Moving - Movers Near Me - Jacksonville, Florida

DO NOT USE THESE GUYS EVER! They promised 4 guys, 2 trucks-one with a hydraulic lift big enough to move us in one day. They showed up with too small of trucks, no lift and 3 guys-2 of which turned out to be junkies! They started at 9:00 AM and didn't get the trucks unloaded at our new home until 1:00 AM! And they still didn't have all of our belongings! At 1:30 AM we get a call from the police and they had pulled over one of the trucks because they had an expired tag. When they checked the tag, it didn't belong to the truck and the driver had no drivers license! The police called us to come identify items in the truck they had stolen from us! Then the officer informed my husband that the guys were junkies and had needle marks all over their arms! The next day they sent 2 more guys to finish the job but again the truck was too small. They delivered what they could stuff in that truck but left us without any of our furniture set up, promising to come back the next day to finish the job. It never happened. We had to rent a U-haul truck ourselves and go collect the rest of our belongings ourselves. We are Senior citizens and this whole ordeal has really hurt us physically and mentally. This company has not returned our calls, emails or texts asking for them to set up our furniture. And they have damaged our belongings, too. And we had hired their cleaning crew to clean after we moved. What a joke! I was embarrassed for my home buyer and ended up recleaning much of the home when I was already distressed and in pain from this nightmare! So, PLEASE, PLEASE DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! read more

I have used this moving company for at least the past 5 years. Their level of customer service has reduced to sub zero. They make appointments and have no follow through as they are consistently late. I have held off on making a rating each time hoping it would get better. I had my elderly mother about 3 to 4 months ago waiting for hours to move her things into storage. Big Guys Express is nothing close to the name. I reached out once again for a 9 A.M. move 7/3/17 with an 8:30 in route call. The time now is 9:50 A.M. and no movers. I reached out to the company and was advised the movers didn't show up for work. As a company you should be way more organized and always have a back up plan. If that means you as the owner have to sweat for that customer, do it. My mother C. Wilson used this company for a move today. We had a great experience. The two movers sent out were Joe and Bobby. We was a little unsure because I had two u-pack pods that seemed very small but Joe and Bobby did a great job of ensuring that all of my items fit and they were safely secured. They were supposed to arrive between 8-9am and they arrived promptly at 8am. We had a two hour time frame also, and was also unsure if that would be long enough but Bobby and Joe finished in about an hour and a half and even moved some furniture that I was tossing to the trash in my apt. complex. I highly recommend Big Guy Moving and especially these two guys. They did a superb job and appreciate their timeliness, attention to detail, and careful handling of my belongings. read more

Honestly shocked to see any good reviews about this company. Poorly run and bad scheduling. The crews were 4 hours late for BOTH our loading and unloading sessions, even though the times were confirmed by the company prior to the scheduled times. I was quoted on the phone a 3-4 hour loading time, after listing to them EVERYTHING in my house. It took 6 hours, and that was with my husband and I helping. I will still charged for 6 hours for the first day. I had to do WAY too much moving considering that's why we hired a company. Same on the unloading side. My mom, sister, husband, friend and myself were all unloading boxes from the truck. I was also told a 26ft truck was no problem, but still ended up having to rent a uhaul to go pick up the rest of the stuff. Apparently this company should not do quotes over the phone. I've heard this isn't the first time it's happened. I had scratches on my wooden furniture, dents in my (brand new house) walls and doors. When I complained about my bad experience on the loading side (on MY facebook page), the owner said he would have to have a certified check because of it, like i wasn't going to pay my bill. VERY insulting considering i never insinuated I wouldn't pay and just stated it was a horrible experience. Then he told his guys to get the check as soon as they arrived, BEFORE the unloaded our stuff. I don't think so! They had to leave our desk in the garage because they were too tired to move it. They did admit it would normally be a quick 15 minute job, but as it was their 3rd move of the day and 9:30 at night, they just couldn't do it. Understandable and I had no problem with that. However the owner said it would require a special team and additional charge. Crazy, considering my little brother and dad will be handling it this weekend and they had already moved it up the stairs in my last house! The movers were great guys and did their best, but the owner has poor customer service skills. They charged me an additional rate to come to St. Augustine to cover the gas, which I agreed with since it is outside their normal area. However because of them being 4 hours late and having to rent a uhaul, I had to drive to Jacksonville and back 3 times that I wouldn't have had to make if they had been on time. Apparently the extra money, time and driving I had to do because of them wasn't their problem. I hope everyone learns from my experience and avoids this company. read more

I called 7+ days in advance to get quote for moving from Avondale to San Marco. The day of the move I confirmed appointment. I was assured that 30-45 minutes before the arrival time they would call/text me to say they were on the way. I had spoken to them several time on the phone that morning and expected them at the time set. Well, when I got no call/text I called them. Was told our truck broke down.(this seems to happen a lot if I had only read the reviews). They said it was the battery! Well, over two hours later they arrived. NO MASK - NO GLOVES and I'm sure the pads were not Lysol as it said on the web site. They left 2 metal parts to hold an antique hutch together, and then said they left them on a table(never found) they broke off part of an antique pier mirror. Didnt seem to bother the young guy who seemed to be in-charge didnt seem to be bothered about the damage or the parts missing. The day after the move I went to the storage center and they had damaged a lamp shade that was over $100 new by cramming stuff into it. They were rushing to get out of this job I believe. I did get a $50 discount for the lateness but NEVER USE THIS COMPANY!! Also, I had to write the check to a ladies name and not the company. So I bet they pay no taxes when this happens. I was very sorry that I used this moving service I am so disappointed we spend several hours packing up items ourselves and taking it over to the new apartment the only items that were left in the apartment were the bigger items such as the bedroom set, couches, and the dining table. What should've been a two hour job went over it's almost 5 hours. This cost us more than anticipated. I do not recommend Big Guys Moving to anyone. I had plan to recommend them to a neighbor but not anymore. They were slow, lazy, and took frequent smoke breaks. Had an appointment for big guy moving, 11-1 they never showed and never called. Finally I called them and they say they will be at my house around 2:30. I waited till 3 never show up. I call at 3:30 and "their truck broke down" they never called never said anything until I called. Our move was fairly priced (Groupon rate) and completed in a timely manner, I'll give them that. However, it wasn't worth every piece of furniture they touched getting banged up in one way or another. Both the couch and the love seat ended up with multiple scratches due to the movers trying to squeeze everything into the elevator. (When we moved in everything was carried up the one flight of stairs and received no damage.) Every piece of wooden furniture was scratched at least once. Both of the mattresses ended up with streaks of black all over them as well. In this case, it really was a case of "you get what you pay for". read more

They didn't even move me, they had to get someone else to move me, since they didn't show up. I made an appointment for noon, the people they got to sub for me didn't get there until 6 pm! When I was trying to figure out what was going on, they gave me the run around for almost 3 HOURS and then once we finally arranged someone else to move me, they said they would give me $150 for my troubles. Yeah...that didn't happen. I tried contacting them about this, but either no one picked up or my emails weren't returned. The MOST UNPROFESSIONAL company I have ever had to deal with. We used them because they were the least expensive we found online and I guess you pay for quality. We are moving to TX tomorrow and we had two guys show up today just to load our things into a u-pack trailer. About 20 minutes into the job, one of the guys quits because he said he "got into it" with his boss on the phone. So he literally changes clothes in the truck and starts walking down the street (how strange right?). The second guy I felt badly for because he just wanted to work but his boss said unless he could find someone to come join him, he would need to stop the job because they didn't want to pay him for half of a job. I'm sorry, but how is it the worker's job to find another worker in order to get paid? Shouldn't that be the job of the actual company? So meanwhile, we are trying to call the manager to see what we should do but no one answered. We left several messages- none of which were returned. After 2.5 hours of waiting for an answer, we finally sent the one guy away and luckily we were able to get different movers to come out at the last minute. It has been over 6 hours since they originally showed up, the store is now closed, and no one ever called us. Please spend the extra money and find quality movers. This whole ordeal has been extremely frustrating and goes to show how much this company truly values their customers. If I could give them a zero rating I would. read more

We had a move scheduled for 9am. After calling their office multiple times for status updates (mostly no answers, before finally getting someone who told us our truck was on the way), we received a call around 9:30 that the moving truck was broken and they would be running late. Fast forward SEVEN HOURS (with many more unanswered phone calls to both Big Guy's office and the cell of the truck driver we were assigned), Big Guy informed us they would be sending a crew from an entirely different company because no one would make it out to us (another broken truck...this seems to happen often if you read their reviews). The replacement company basically had a trailer hooked up to the back of a pickup truck. They did an acceptable job but would not honor the price Big Guy quoted us. We were left with an extremely late move with a company we have no idea about (bonded? insured? Just one of the movers' cousins that had a trailer?) that cost us more money than expected. Absolutely unacceptable. After our Saturday move, I called the company Monday to express my displeasure. Instead of making apologies, I was argued with that the $75 they discounted us (which again, the replacement company did not honor) was more than enough to make up for a 7 hour delay and that since we accepted the price, we must have been ok with it. As if we had any choice other than NOT having our things moved! All of this came from a move coordinator/driver who finally said he would relay my complaint to his supervisor and I would get a call back, which has still not happened. read more

I love these guys are always recommend to friends. I used to live out at the beaches and they helped me with 2 moves. I live out in green cove now, but still would pay the extra for their service. David and Scott are great, and always helpful. They also offer good specials if you ask. Not sure why these other people are hating. I moved locally a 1/1 apartment to a 2/2 condo on 3/6/13. I picked Big Guy movers after researching reviews and rates of Jax moving companiea, they seemed to have a better price and the majority of reviews were positive. The pre-move effort was great, we have several phone conversations about the upcoming move, a few reminders, and I had even identified and requested my movers by name (having seen where certain reviews called some of them out by name). Everything I requested in advanced was promised to me, along with the expectation that a 1/1 apt move wouldn't take very long - 2-4 hours tops. On the day of the move, they were 1 hour late arriving. They arrived in a smaller truck, and the movers I requested were not the movers I received (nice enough guys, just not the guys I was promised). A series of phone calls began to take place to the owner (Dave) who had always answered his phone before the move ... but the day of the move it was always going to voicemail. He never once answered his phone for me the entire day of the move. That was annoying - but I figured this was his protocol - don't interact with the customer the day of the move - just work with his employees to address any concerns as the day progressed. Upon seeing the size of the truck, and knowing how much I had to move, I had cautioned the movers that I didn't think they were going to be able to get it all done in one shot (and I was right), but the movers had no other trucks available or options to give me other than they would have to make multiple trips (which extends the time involved). I told them that's fine - make multiple trips if you have to, but don't charge me for the extra time involved. They said that upon arriving for their day another team had taken the "big truck" already, leaving them with this smaller one. The growing concern I had was that the condo I was moving into had a strict 5pm cut-off for movers to complete their work. Knowing this, I had already asked to start the day at 8am sharp ... which in reality started at 9am because they were late in arriving. Now with the smaller truck ... we're looking at well into the afternoon before finishing. As the move got underway, a few boxes were dropped along the way (they had 1 dolly and 1 roller to work with) - I had lots of boxes and several would fall off the dolly as they tried stacking them 4-5 high on the dolly. A few of the plastic storage bins actually broke from the weight of the boxes on top of them, spilling the contents onto the ground. As they went to break down my bed, they suddenly realized that there were no tools to work with (someone didn't leave them on the truck). They asked me if I had any to which I replied, yes - but they're all packed up. I had to call my apt complex maintenance man to let us borrow his tools, which wasted more time. During the move, a large bedroom dresser was damaged. I witnessed it as they were loading it on the truck. They were using a dolly, and attempted to set it down on the truck to maneuver it into a corner. So they set it down onto 2 legs, and as they pushed it up and over, the weight of the dresser broke off the 2 legs of the dresser! This prompted another call I made to the owner, which went to voicemail, but right after leaving a message, the movers got a phone call from the owner asking what happened. Later in the day, the owner stopped by to inspect the damage - but get this - he didn't introduce himself - he just drove up - inspected the dresser - advised his movers - and left. The movers then approached me stating that "they have a great furniture repair guy" that the owner was getting in touch with to fix the dresser, followed by continued apologies for how the move was going. It took the 2 movers about 4 hours to get as much on the small truck that they could manage, leaving behind several boxes and items they had to return to get. Once at the condo, we had to deal with a freight elevator the whole time (but there were no stairs to deal with). I had labeled each box on its final destination, but at this point, no time was given to that, all boxes found their way into the main living room area, where I had to move them again afterwards. There were several bangs and marks against the walls and frames as furniture was quickly being moved through narrow hallways and corners by a single mover. They were rushing because we were rapidly approaching our 5pm cutoff. Around 430pm, we made our way back to my apt. to dash-and-grab what we could get on the truck within a 20 minute period in order to rush back to the condo and unload before 5pm. This left me with 2 extra car trips afterwards to get all the little items that were ultimately left behind in the rush job. The final box was moved around 6pm. Being an hour over my alloted move-in time prompted several complaints to follow that I received afterwards, which added insult to injury. In the end a 2 hr move = 9 hrs! :( read more

Worse company ever! They damage my furniture during the move of 11/10/18 and supposedly stated a repair man will be out that Monday per the delivery driver Raymond. The repair man never came and my furniture has not been repaired. I have been calling them daily and everyday I called and the Front Desk(Debbie) stated she was waiting on David and will call me back. No call back was ever returned. I hired them in advance, had confirmation from "Dave" who I spoke with on the phone. On the day before my move, they had no information recorded. however, they promised to do the job. When they were over an hour late showing up for their 2 hour window, I called "Dave" again who acted shocked that the guys had not shown up. He said he would call me right back..... NEVER CALLED. 2 hours later another employee called to tell me they were on their way and I had to let them know that I had already hired another company. I cannot say enough nice things about this company!!! The gentlemen that did the move were curtious and hard working. I was quoted $200 for two hours and $75 each additional hour. They were done exactly in two hours and was not charged any additional fees. I was moving from a single floor house to a third floor condo but the extra starsdid not slow them down. I HIGHLY recommend this company and you MUST request Bobby and Jayson to do the move, you will be extremly happy at the end of the day!!!!! read more

A few years ago we were making 2 moves. I had a groupon and used this company and it was fabulous. I scheduled a big move for a month later; requesting the 2 men that moved us initially. 8 am- 9am- 10am no one showed up. I called Dave a number of times and 2 or 3 hours later 2 guys showed up. I suspect now they were day laborers. Horrors! My husband and I did much of the packing while instructing them on how to pack! In the end we gave them both a tip...unfortunately for us they had tipped themselves by taking a box from our bar with them. I didn't immediately notice until I had company weeks later and asked my husband where the alcohol was! Shame on me for not noticing sooner. read more

Mr. Mendenhall doing business as Big Guy Movers provides big guys that act like it is a weight lifting contest resulting in damaged furniture, excessive stacking of furniture, no team work, no coordination, no leadership, no contract provided, will not answer the phone after the job is completed. Charges extra for credit cards because they are afraid of reversed credit card charges. I would pay the $800 fee again to not have had these guys move my furniture because they are out of control and did a lot of damage. Who wants damaged furniture? The owner, David, actually promised to send me a check in May but never did. We called and emails multiple times and they ignore us. We filed a claim with the BBB and they also ignore them! First let me say that there are 2 different reviews here: one for the actual movers and the other for the front desk / admin of this company. LJ and Brandon were the two professional movers who showed up on time prepared and ready to go. They were professional, respectful, patient and did a perfect job! LJ and Brandon get 5 stars from me. The second review is for the front office / administrators. Debbie was the person I first spoke to who quoted me a very high price to just move a dining room set. Then she called back and offered me a lower price. I accepted the offer. She asked me how I was going to pay and I said by credit card. She told me she would email me a consent form. I never received it, despite having left multiple messages for her on their answering machine. After the move was complete LJ and Brandon, and I were unable to reach anyone in the office despite trying numerous tries to multiple phone numbers, including the owner, so I gave them a check for the moving. I continued to call and leave messages to the office and only got the answering machine. Finally, with no call back form anyone in the office I was simply emailed a PayPal invoice that was higher than the original price I was quoted on the phone. They claimed it was for a service charge fee on the credit card, but I was never informed of this despite countless efforts to get in touch with them both before and after the move. So my rating for the admin office and owner is 1 star. Please understand that the movers themselves are first rate with this company, particularly LJ and Brandon, but the administrative office leaves much to be desired. read more

I wish I had read all the reviews before I contracted Big Guy Movers to move my daughter to Tennessee from Jacksonville last week. They were five hours late, we sat on the carpet in an empty apartment for all that time waiting for them. They finished unloading the truck after 11 at night and left. The next day we discovered that we were missing a book case and other small items. They are not returning our calls and to make matters worse they did not send an invoice as promised so my daughter can not get refunded for the move which cost $2750. Allow me to recap my moving day - Saturday, July 19: Contract stated movers would arrive between noon and 1:00pm. 1:08pm - No call and no show from Big Guy Movers so I call (904) 859-3137. No one answers so I leave a message. 1:34pm - I have not received a call back so I call (904) 859-3137 again. No one answers so I leave another message. 1:38pm - I have not received any communication from Big Guy Moving so I send an email. 1:45pm - One of the movers calls me to say they will be arriving in about 35mins. (*Please note their estimated time of arrival (ETA) is now 1 hour and 15 minutes later than the original scheduled time frame.) 2:02pm - Dave calls and offers to send over an extra guy to expedite the process. 2:28pm - I get a call stating the truck tire/wheel has an issue. I am asked if Big Guy Moving can reschedule my move for the next day (Sunday, July 20th). The answer is no as I was supposed to be moved out by 4pm on Saturday, July 19th. I am told they will figure something out and call me back. 3:46pm - I haven't heard anything so I call (904) 859-3137 and no one answers. I do not leave a message. 3:54pm - I get a call from Dave that another company (Baymeadows Express) can move my belongings and they should be calling me with an ETA. 6:17pm - I have not received a call from Baymeadows Express or an update from Big Guy Moving. Therefore, I call (904) 859-3137 to check on the ETA for the other company so I can plan accordingly. No one answered so I left a voicemail. 6:25pm - I received call from Mike with Baymeadows Express to confirm they could do the move but with no ETA other than "late". 8:45pm - I text Mike to check on their ETA. 9:37pm - My out of town guests arrive. 10:14pm - Baymeadows Express Moving arrives and the moving process begins. (*Please note this is nine hours after the original contracted start time.) 2:20am - Baymeadows Express Moving completes the move. July 20 - Email sent to Big Guy Moving requesting compensation for total amount spent by having to use Baymeadows Express instead of Big Guy Moving. - No reply from Big Guy moving to date (Aug 2) July 28 - Called Big Guy Moving and asked to speak with the owner. Debbie took my cell phone number, work phone number, personal email address and work address. - To date (Aug 2) no call back or email from Big Guy Moving. Please, save yourself time and money and do not hire Big Guy Moving. read more

I have never dealt with a business that was run so poorly. This moving company cancelled my move 2 hours before they were scheduled to arrive and then failed to return my phone calls. Although the price quoted is very appealing I highly recommend giving your business to a company that runs professionally and follows through on commitments. I read many negative reviews before I booked with them and I wish that I would have listened to the advice of others. When I called another moving company and explained to them my situation they immediately asked me if I had used "Big Guy Movers" and noted they receive these phone calls almost once a day with complaints on this company. Stay Away!!! Sometimes cheaper is NOT a good option! I made a reservation with this company to move me from my house in Jax to another house in Atlanta since I was being relocated for my job. I was quoted at $1200 to which I agreed since my other quotes were in the range of $1500+. I read the reviews here and thought that the company seemed quite reputable. Everything started off great. I spoke with Dave and he seemed professional and we scheduled the loading for a Thursday evening at 5 pm so that they could hit the road early Friday morning. At 4pm on Thursday, Dave called and said that they're getting the truck ready and will be enroute in 30 minutes. At 5pm, I got a text message from Dave stating that they're having issues with the truck and he'll call me back in 10 minutes with an update of some sort. I never got a call back or a text message from him. I tried calling him back up until 8:30 pm and they kept ignoring my calls. I left a nice voicemail stating how unprofessional this was. Long story short - they breached the contract and made no attemps to remedy the situation. I then had to make a reservation with another company who, of course, jacked up the price to $2100 given the urgency of the move! I'm never one to write reviews, but this certainly has been a horrific experience and I want all consumers to be very wary of this company! read more

DON'T CALL THESE GUYS! We moved in 2 stages -- our household stuff first on one Saturday followed by everything from a storage facility two weeks later. These guys stood us up both times. The first Sat. we were scheduled for 10:00 am, and nobody showed up or called to let us know they would be late. My husband called several times to see what the problem was, and he was told that the guys had been in a wreck on their way to our place, that they were having trouble with their truck, they would be late, etc., etc. They finally showed up at 2:00 p.m. One guy was very professional, had on his uniform, was very nice and conscientious. The other guy was creepy and made me very nervous. He was wearing very dirty clothes and smelled as if he had not bathed in quite some time. I think the quality of the moving experience is determined by the individuals who actually show up. Even with all these problems, my husband called them 2 weeks later for the other half of our move and guess what? They stood us up again. Incredible! When my husband called the company, he got the same lames excuses -- having mechanical trouble, stuck in traffic, yadda, yadda, yadda. They finally stopped answering the phone altogether. My husband only waited for them for 2 hours this time, then left the truck parked on the street. He unloaded it by himself the next day. If you decide to go ahead and hire this company anyway, well, good luck to you, and you have my condolences. You'll probably wind up doing it yourself or wasting most of the day waiting to see if they show up or not. read more
