This place is one of my new favorites. They are really sanitary, they use a towel for the table and a different one for the seat. They have good food, and they train their employees very well. The bathrooms are clean and nice but I would like them to add towels for your hands. I would definitely recommend this place. read more

My reviews focus on the customer service, not so much on the food. I was eating in my car. One of the adult employees visited the storage, seeing me in my car after viewing my TN license plate. On our weekly day trips we look for the "mom and pop" spots with the most cars in the parking lot. Big J's fit the criteria as we passed through Preston, Idaho and it did not disappoint. The place was literally packed, yet we didn't wait more than 30 seconds to be acknowledged and asked for our order. Our cashier was very nice and attentive. A table opened up and we snagged it, then waited less than 5 minutes for our food to be delivered, which was fresh and hot. Fries were delicious and fry sauce available. Yum!! My cheeseburger was just so-so, nothing much to say about it. My hubs got the Big-J, he loved it. The place was clean as a whistle! The staff was on top of cleaning tables as customers departed making turn around for seating timely. We had our eyes on the shakes at other tables but didn't end up indulging; they looked delicious. A girl came by our table when we started to clear it off and took our tray and offered us a dum-dum sucker or mint from a basket. Nice touch! Great Service! I really love how on busy days at lunch time if there's too many cars in the drive thorugh they come out with an ipad to your car window and take your order to speed things up. Plus for cars in the drivethough that have an order that might take a little longer they have them pull forward and then they bring it out so that the line keeps moving. When inside the restaurant they are super pleasers. They will throw away your tray for you and are always extra friendly and helfpul. The prices are high, but I'm sure it costs a lot of money to keep a restaurant like this open and so many people working it! Their employees are never substandard. They are all above and beyond, and I think that is becuase they make sure to train them well. You cannot put a price on a local hometown business! Plus, the fries are the best! So are the ice cream treats. What's even more, is they support local people as well, especially when they give my kids free pizzas or burgers distributed by local school when my children read consecutively at home. Unremarkable fast food, done cheaply. None of their cooking has much flavor. Everything is frozen, prepackaged and processed. Look at the photos on here that show just how pathetic their burgers are. Raspberry shake is the only thing I really like here. In a town with few fast food options, it's often crowded here, especially on the weekends. The kids working here do a good job keeping up and are always friendly. I just wish the cooking was up to par. read more

Bad experience for the out of state customer. Young Man didn't get the order correct, returned, to be told we were charged for one burger and not the other. Then the interrogation began as to what had been eating! We had a great experience here Saturday. The service was very friendly. Our raspberry shake was as good as those at Bear Lake. We ordered the spicy chicken sandwich and thought the flavor was super similar to wings from Winger's, which we love. We had onion rings and they were yummy too (not the best I've ever eaten yummy, but better than others we've had). Big J's has been a staple in the Preston community for years. Not only is it famous for its role in Napoleon Dynamite, the food has always been good and the atmosphere friendly. As an Idahoan, I worked there for nearly three years when I was in high school. There was always an emphasis on customer service and good food. The ownership is excellent and customer service impeccable. Sadly, I've seen a decline in their food quality over the years. Prices have gone up with remodels and cost of living. They're newest upgrade left the store feeling like a chain restaurant to me. The new additions to the menu are good though some feel like they don't belong. They've changed out the type of crispy chicken they use for sandwiches and that's unfortunate because they were so good when I worked there. Unfortunately, they've grown the menu so large it feels like endless options and it's overwhelming. On a good note, their fresh fruit shakes have and always will be the best. Can you say food poisoning? I stopped here on my way home from Pocatello one evening in November 2013. The next day was followed by unpredictable bodily functions of which I have never experienced before and haven't experienced since. I called the restaurant to complain, but of course there's nothing they can do. My $7 meal ended up costing me more than I bargained for in medical bills at the most financially inconvenient time possible. Now I avoid Big J's entirely, you won't see me stopping at their Preston, Idaho or Richmond, Utah location ever. It's particularly disheartening because my first impression of this establishment in Preston was actually pretty decent. Food safety is of upmost importance, which I don't feel was something that was being properly practiced here on my last visit, and nothing was offered in exchange for my complaint. Good burger place, I'd say the best in Preston. We've been dozens of times and the food has always been good. I always get the Big J Burger with Pastrami. The fries are excellent and the service is even better. It always looks like they are hustling and have high standards. The service isn't always super fast but they are always busy when we go but you pull up to their parking lot instead of waiting in line and they bring the food out to you. I'm baffled at the poor reviews of this restaurant. I have been there on many occasions and found the food and service amazing. I have been there when high school games have just ended and they handle a huge group impressively well. Everything I've ordered has been delicious! Most of the employees are young people and I have always been impressed with how great their customer service is for basically being a bunch of kids working the front end.
