My family and I love going to Old Gristmill in Smithfield because there are places to sit. We run into friends there and have delicious food made quickly every time. The breakfast bagels are filling and inexpensive. Our go to is the lunch special that comes with a sandwich, chips, drink and cookie the size of your face. My first impression was how cute and comfortable this place is for dates. Upon walking in, I noticed many couples of young folks sitting together eating and enjoying conversation. Service was very friendly and attentive. There were some booths available by large windows towards the front of the building, as well as tables with chairs. Décor was cute and built more for comfort, but I could tell that what was really the focus point for the Old Grist Mill was the food. Procedure starts with walking up to a counter and filling out a sheet on a notepad with pre-typed options for your meal. Behind the counter were large chalkboard menus on the walls that listed the different types of meals (some came with drinks, some were specific to hot versus cold sandwiches, etc.) as well as the different options for sandwiches. The menu was not massive, so I gave it extra points for being concise and sticking with sandwich staples instead of going experimental and expansive. You circle the options for the sandwich you want (what meat you'd like, which cheese, any condiments, etc.) as well as what choice of cookie you'd enjoy. I personally had a difficult time choosing between the chocolate chip walnut and the snickerdoodle, but ended up going with the latter. I ordered the French Dip which usually comes on a hoagie bun, but I managed to get it served on their sourdough bread and grilled. It does come with a side of au jus (not pictured). After you pay and wait a bit, they call you up and hand you your order in a cute Old Grist Mill paper lunch sack. This was a highlight for me; it tickled the playful part of my heart and sent me back to my little years in elementary school. My takeaway: It was arguably the most buttery soft, pull-apart snickerdoodle I've eaten in years. It held its shape, but wasn't rock hard. Let's just say the cookie didn't make it outside the restaurant. The sandwich was also very good; the au jus was classic and delicious, served piping hot, and the sandwich itself was soft enough to soak up the au jus with each bite and it just fills your mouth with comforting warmth. I definitely recommend both options and recommend you make a pit stop here for some good quick sandwiches, chips, a cookie, and a drink. read more

OLD GRIST. This place will always hold a special little piece of my heart. I would come here all the time in college and grab a sack lunch-- $6 for a half a sandwich (that is as thicc as that special someone you've been eyeing at the gym), a massive cookie (that could hold it's own against one of your grandma's classic cookies), a foundation drink (that tastes 10x better through a straw amiright?), and a bag of Lays (which, let's be real, is a classic and you secretly love them). The ordering system is easy, you step in line, grab a piece of paper, and circle all you want. If you don't want to create your own brown bag lunch, there are plenty of other menu items to choose from that you can order from the counter. Soups, sandwiches, snacks. The WORKS. Employees do an awesome job, the restaurant is clean and social distancing (yeah that's right I'm coming at you from the year 2020), and again, it's a delicious meal leaving you full and satisfied without breaking the bank. TIPS & TRICKS: * Grab a loaf of bread on your way out, the cinnamon swirl makes for great French toast! * Put those sprouts on your sandwich, when do you ever get a chance to do that?! My friends and I met here for lunch. It looked busy by all the cars parked outside but there were plenty of tables to sit. One of my friends ordered the vegetable beef soup they said it was quite bland and there was no beef. I had the turkey sandwich with mayo cheese tomato and alfalfa sprouts. When the sandwich arrived it also had lettuce on it. I still ate it and it was good. I also had the cream of potato soup which is my favorite. It was amazing. The place was clean staff was so so friendly. I love grist Mills bread. It's always fresh and good. I usually rate five stars however the bland soup made me choose only for. From the staff (extremely friendly!), to the service (super quick), to the food (much heartier sandwiches), and the store itself (TONS cleaner than Logan). You guys have nailed it! We love the Grist Mill in Smithfield. Me and my husband and I eat there every Monday around 6:00 pm. The cookie of the day is the Sugar Cookie, but they've only had it once out of 4 times thar we've been there, and that was Valentines Day. I recently met a friend at the Smithfield OGM location for coffee and breakfast. The service staff was very friendly and helpful. For coffee, I had an oat milk vanilla latte that was creamy and delicious. Their breakfast bagels are served with bacon, sausage, or ham and your choice of several kinds of cheese, and egg. I had them hold the cheese, as I went with bacon and an Asiago cheese bagel. It was fresh, tasty, and filling! We also shared a raspberry roll (they are a very generous size!) that was the perfect sweet treat to end our meal. Definitely visit The Old Grist Mill! All of their baked goods are great and their sandwiches are made with their house-made bread. read more

Service at the Utah Smithfield Old Grist Mill was horrible. The employees were complaining about having to work an 8 hour shift. The cream of potato soup was like water with a total of 4 raw potatoes in it and the sandwich was just thrown together and the meat was not even all the way in the sandwich. I have never had a good experience with the staff at this location but this was by far the worst. I can't even imagine treating my customers the way they do. They are horribly rude and you can tell they hate their job. Do not eat here; drive the little extra few miles to go to Kneaders or Great Harvest for good food and good customer service. read more

They have never once gotten my order wrong, probably because I get a very basic sandwich each time, and they always serve me with a smile.
