Stopped here on our way back to Evanston, WY after a kid's baseball tournament. The restaurant was incredibly disorganized, there was one order in front of us when we came in and one behind us, but you would've thought they were swamped by the way the two workers were acting. We waited 50minutes for our to-go order. A plain cheeseburger came out covered with all of the fixings instead of it being left plain. The customer after us was told that most of that stuff doesn't come on the burger and has to be added. The grilled ham and cheese was slathered in mayo and too soggy to be appetizing. At least the fries were good, but that's the only positive I can find. Overall, extremely disappointing. Had we not already been on the road back to Wyoming we'd have gone back and asked for a refund, which we almost did as a result of the wait to begin with. read more

Overpriced for marginal quality. The strawberry shake tasted like Nesquick strawberry mix was added to ice cream. No chunks of fruit. Onion rings were the best idem. read more

On vacation and googled places to eat. Found Dans Drive In. Simple tasty hamburgers. Great homemade fries. Both of us are for $13. Hard to find that kind of value anymore. The locals were showing up for lunch so we new it was gonna be good---and it was !!!! read more

DELICIOUS!!! The best fries and chicken strips we've had in a really long time. I would have loved to have been able to stay in town and try more of their food. The kids were so stuffed, they had leftovers for lunch the next day. Their strips are not the typical strip. They are HUGE. The perfect amount of crunch and flavor. I am not sure if it was Dan that checked us out and brought us our food, but he was SO friendly and kind. As an added bonus, the people in this town make me want to buy there. I haven't had a gentlemen practically run to hold the door for me in a long time and when one of their customers did that I literally wanted to cry. Was wanting to stop in and try the food here. Parking was great with a ton of space to park. When we went in we noticed there like 6 people waiting outside. Once we got in there were people standing everywhere. The places to sit was very small for actual eating of food. We had to navigate through people to even get to the counter. Once we got to the counter, there was nobody there. We waited like 5 minutes at the counter and walked out. Went down the street to the pizza place and a good meal with no wait. While the food here may be good, the customer service and money invested for seating make this difficult unless you have to wait. If they have this much business coming in it may be time to think about expanding. read more

Dan's Drive In - Plenty of parking. - American Near Me - Montpelier, Idaho

My Dad and I were taking a scenic route from San Francisco to Custer, South Dakota via Idaho when Dad suddenly exclaimed, "I'M HUNGRY!" Neither one of us had any love for franchised, mass-produced fast food, so we set about finding a local place to eat in the tiny town of Montpelier, Idaho. Y'know what? There's really not much of a selection. One place at one end of Washington Street and Dan's Drive In at the other end. At first, I thought Dan's was closed, but Dad did some reconnaissance and found out it was open. I grew up on places like this. Small, locally owned, greasy burger places, so I knew what to expect. The inside of the place is really old fashioned with crazy 1970's carpet on the walls, wood paneling, and old tables. It took me back to being a 7 year old kid in Kingsville, Texas. Dad ordered a grilled cheese sandwich and some sort of British pub fries. When the friendly guy behind the counter discovered we were out-of-towners, he gave us a free order of fries so that we could try two regional sauces which aren't available anywhere else. Dad thought his grilled cheese was just ok and the British pub fries were perfectly square tater tots that tasted like they may have been double-fried. I thought the free fries were excellent not because they were free, but due to the fact that they were fresh cut from actual potatoes (there are bags behind the counter)! The two special sauces were pink (basically a slightly spicier Thousand Island) and white (mayo vinegar-y Ranch taste) and were ok. Nothing to write home about. So yeah, the food isn't amazing, but it's good. The people running the place are incredibly nice and chatty and really made us feel welcome. If you're passing through town, give Dan's a shot! read more

Food was fine. Women's bathroom was dirty. We went on a slow week day. We assume there was only one worker. She was taking orders and cooking the food and making the shakes. The shakes were excellent. The lady was very sweet Food was okay. read more

Welp, I'm in town for a little me vacation and needed somewhere to eat. I waited over 25 minutes for my food in the drive through. The 5 cars behind me got their food before I did and me being hungry it quickly turned into hangry. Hoping the food is good, if not I'm going to be very unhappy. UPDATE finally got my food. I still love eating at Dan's and eat here regularly since the remodel happened. They have great pastas, but sadly no longer have doughnuts :'( Still...the ranch burger is one my go to meals on lunch break! read more

Really really really good food. I got the rodeo burger and it was super juicy and delicious. One of the better ones that I've ever had. Their homemade fries are also amazing. The only problem is that it takes much longer to get your food than you would expect. It took about 45 minutes for our burgers to come out. So don't expect a quick bite to eat Great staff and friendly service. read more

The tables were dirty the food was okay but fries were cold. It looks old and cool inside, we had one hair in our food. The lady was nice but the service was super slow. If you have a big group I would definitely go somewhere else. Biggest pro is they have the good crunchy ice. I hope they will step up there game I could see this being a fun restaurant. read more

We were looking for a good place to eat. We saw Dan's on Main Street and we decided to give it a try and we were pleasantly surprised. The hamburgers were delicious and the fries were even better. If you are ever in Montpelier give this littler place a try and you won't be disappointed. The only negative thing was we had about a 10 minute wait but when the food came we completely forgot about the wait. read more

A must have if you're visiting Bear Lake! Found this gem a few years back and now we have to go regularly. The fries and white sauce are top notch! The shakes are fantastic- real whole ingredients, not just flavors/syrups. Add this little restaurant to your list if you're ever in the area, you won't be disappointed. read more

Burgers are a bit greasy, and everything is incredibly over priced, but it is the best place to get a Burger in Montpelier. Aside from the prices, the only problem I see is that it needs to be cleaned a little more. read more
