We ordered two junior plates (chopped pork, fried okra, coleslaw; chopped beef, fries, and Mac and cheese) and a chopped beef sandwich. All delicious! Beans and sauce were great too! The food is really good. I would give 4 stars but the staff is excellent and moved it up to five stars. The bbq is good and the sides are excellent. It's hard to get anyone to cook sweet potato fries correctly. They did it right. Probably the best I've ever had. Potato salad and okra were also very good. I had brisket, ribs, and sausage. Sausage was fantastic. Brisket was pretty good. Ribs were "ok." Highly recommend and will return. read more

We are so glad we waited to have a quick lunch here. Quick is the word--the food we ordered was out to our table before we got the seats warm. I love good barbecue, and boy did this place deliver. My husband and I shared the large meat plate with ribs, sliced brisket, and pulled pork, with a side of baked beans and coleslaw. It also came with Texas toast. We had to also get a fried peach pie to share. All of it was truly delectable. We ate every bit of it. The meat was tender and moist, and the barbecue sauce was tangy and vinegary (which is right up my alley). We will surely return if we ever pass through this way again! read more

On the road north through AR we came across Ashdown at lunch time. We didn't feel like fast food, so we were glad to find Big Jake's. Diverse BBQ menu. 4 tasty sauces. Free pinto beans. Pretty good BBQ. It's in a relatively new building and they have big screens on the walls. I got the pulled pork and smoked sausage. I also tasted their brisket. Definitely better than fast food. I liked their sauces, especially the sweet mustard sauce. Their other sweet and their original sauces were great. I did not try their hot bbq sauce. Sides were good, especially their baked beans. Fries are fresh cut and the baked potatoes are huge. 4 stars b/c it's not great, sauces were above avg and it's a great alternative to fast food in a small town. read more

I couldn't find a lot online telling me what Ashdown had to offer. I left my hotel (Economy Inn) and just walked around, looking for something to eat. Most of downtown was closed around 6pm, so it took a bit! I came upon Big Jakes BBQ and was intrigued! You stand in line to order kind of like a fast food joint, but you sit down and they bring your order to you when it's finished. I selected a brisket meal. It was all delicious, but the brisket was the least delicious part of it. It was a little dry. The fries and macaroni were divine!! The service was good and the environment was neat. If you find yourself in this odd town, I recommended it! The parking was a little odd...a creepy dirt parking lot that was dark, and had a train track running through it. read more

First time ever to try this place, ordered two loaded baked potatoes. They could have told us when we placed our order that they were out of bacon bits, instead they charged full price for them without any substitution. Plus, the amount of tops that were on them were very small. Update: the restaurant messaged me after my review and asked to let them do whatever to make my next visit better. I upgraded my rating. Passing through snd saw their sign so stopped. Glad we did. The ribs were cooked to perfection and only suggestion is a little more smoke for our taste would be nice. Hand cut fries cooked crispy on the outside and fluffy inside. Liked the seasoning they were sprinkled with too. The Mac & cheese was creamy and not too soupy or too dry--just right. Really liked both sauces too. And I couldn't leave without a fried chocolate pie which was delicious. First choice was coconut but they were sold out. Second choice worked just great. If we're back through Ashdown we will definitely stop. Staff was efficient and friendly. Oh brewed ice tea was refreshing. read more

I'm not usually a big fan of pinto beans but Big Jake's has all you want 'free' pintos with any meal and they are definitely the best I've ever had. I'd come just for the beans, if fact I have. I was passing through on one of our BBQ motorcycle jaunts and decided to pop in. Well, I have to give in to them, trying their best to accommodate with all of the Covid restrictions. My GF has Celiac Disease and is HIGHLY allergic to wheat/gluten so we ask about the sauce and breads up front. After placing our order with special instructions our plates came with BOTH having a slice of bread on top of the food. The waitress replaced hers with a NEW dish, which actually took much longer than the first time. I ordered the ribs...How do I put this politely...they were like beef jerky cooked onto the rib bones. WAY overcooked and VERY little meat. I did like the potato salad though and when I asked who made it I was told "Oh, we buy that and get it in large tubs"...lol So, to say the least we will not be returning... I am looking at all of these 4 and 5 star reviews and thinking either they have no taste or I went on a bad day. read more
