This is an old style diner serving homemade southern style comfort food. The diner is larger than you would expect but felt comfortable and inviting. It has nostalgic decor with a combination of booths and tables. At the height of lunch hour it was very busy but we were promptly seated and served. We happen to be driving through Texarkana at lunchtime and remembered that we had friends from our town, which is an hour away, that rave about it and occasionally for an outing will drive to Texarkana just to eat lunch. I had fried chicken livers, cabbage and the twice baked potato while my husband had the chicken fried chicken. My potato was just average but the fried livers and cabbage were excellent. We both enjoyed our food very much and I appreciated the fact that the tea glasses were large enough that I didn't have to ask for refills. One review complained that there weren't very many chicken livers. I only had about seven livers myself, but they were so huge that I ended up making two meals out of it. We thought the food was very reasonably priced and some of the meals even come with half portions. My husband actually got the half order of the chicken fried chicken and it was still plenty of food. read more

Well, I did go back for lunch. It was a cold and windy day so I got the special - Chicken & Dumplings. Oh my goodness was it good! It was better than my great grandmother's. I could just taste the pride that someone put into making the dumplings. So delicious...but I think he only does that special once a week. One more thing about Dixie Diner, the value. You can get a very good meal with homemade rolls and cornbread for less than you pay at a drive thru. Exterior and interior are clean and in good repair. I held the door for a LOL and she thanked me warmly. Maitre d' greeted me warmly and apologized for the short delay while she seated the preceding diners. The waitress was amazing! Like always. She was attentive, but not intrusive. She took my order and repeated my two special requests to ensure they were correct. I barely had enough time to savor the cornbread when she returned with my meal. The presentation is very good. The aromas are superb! The flavors were phenom! The waitress brought a to-go box before I asked. A gentleman was about to enter. I waited so I wouldn't hit him with the door. The quality of the food and service at this once outstanding restaurant has dropped dramatically. Our family ate there last evening 5/11/24. The chef salad had NO ham or bacon, they over compensated with ground up hard boiled eggs and grill chicken. My wife had fried cat fish and onion rings and the onions were cold and under fried(oil too cold) my granddaughter's fries were undercooked my grandson Irish waffle fried did have bacon. Nostalgic decor with old license plates from all over the US on the walls. Also old pictures and behind the cashier an old gum machine from a wall post in a NYC subway station. Looks like it dates from the 1950's. My wife said that the rolls were "so good." Corn bread was a four star. My rolls were also four star. Chicken fried chicken tasted heavenly. Five stars! Gravy and all were perfect. Can not be improved. French fries were five stars. About the best I ever had. The flavor was excellent. They have potato skin on them for extra good taste.
