Esther's Cakes N Sweets opened up around May 2023 in the space that used to be Casa Balzano (inside…read morea medical/office building). I went in to take a look and ended up buying a salted caramel brownie ($3.25) and a pink cookie with white chocolate chips ($3.65). When you buy anything pink in the shop, 20% of the sales go to Breast Cancer Research (not sure if this is just for the month of October (Breast Cancer Awareness month) or for always). The salted caramel brownie was phenomenal! So rich and buttery and filled with gooey salted caramel and chocolate chips. The cookie was good too, nice and chewy with lots of white chocolate chips, but the salted caramel brownie stole the show, for sure! Everything is baked by them, it is not one of those shops that buys stuff from Costco and resells them, lol, like some other shops in medical buildings. I was served by Esther herself, who is beyond lovely. She told me they recently opened 5 months ago and she's really trying to get the cafe more exposure through social media. She noticed my purse and told me she has the exact same one and brought hers out to show me. Immediately I knew this woman has good taste, lol. The cafe is super cute with a few seats to eat in. It's not too visible from the street, so just look for the medical/office building next to the Westgate Shopping Centre. There's free parking along the front of the building. The parking lot is actually quite large, but many spots are reserved for permit holders, so just look out for the signage. Esther's Cakes N Sweets is a gem. I'm looking forward to trying out other items.

Her mini red velvet cream cheese iced loafs are a pleasure, the cakes isn't too sweet, and her caramel cup cakes are a must try. she does a great western Omlette breakfast with hash browns & does a selection of fresh sandwiches & soup for lunch. They have a good offering of cake slices (you can also order a whole cake), pastries, cookies, marshmallows, lollipops, and even sandwiches. I got a slice of the Mille-feuille ($7.50) and it was heavenly. It was so rich and creamy. Really delicious! I would definitely get it again. Although I also want to try the honey pistachio cake, which they didn't have on the day I went. Staff were friendly and I appreciated that they gave me time to look around (and snap pictures for y'all, lol) on my own, instead of staring at me like at some places, haha. I'm not a huge fan of the pastries set-up as it's serve yourself in open baskets/trays and feels less sanitary, but at least cakes and squares are behind glass, and the sandwiches are even individually wrapped. Marshmallows and cookies are also packaged. I'm definitely looking forward to trying more cakes here! Free parking is available in the shared parking lot for the strip mall.

Standard things like donuts taste the same as at other locations but if they have to make something for you, I find it doesn't taste as good :( So for the record, I created this listing back in Feb 2020 as "Savoir Fare" (the store inside Algonquin College selling food made by students from their culinary program) and then some time in 2022/2023 someone edited it to a "Tim Hortons" and this edit was approved by the Yelp moderators despite the fact that all the photo under this listing were of food from Savoir Fare and the 1 review that existed at the time was clearly of Savoir Fare. I have submitted my edit to change the listing back to Savoir Fare multiple times, and each time it was rejected by the Yelp moderators. So here we are. My original review remains of Savoir Fare and I still stand by it. The address listed is for the Algonquin College building in which Savoir Fare is located. This building also has other businesses located in it, including a Tim Hortons and also a Booster Juice. They should have created a new listing for the Tim Hortons located inside this Algonquin College building instead of changing this listing to a Tim Hortons, which doesn't make any sense. I have created a new listing for Savoir Fare. Hopefully the Yelp moderators don't change that one to a Tim Hortons or a Booster Juice, lol.

TL;DR/The Short Version: Bake shop with very limited hours…read morebut very delicious goods! The Long Version: I've been wanting to try Adam Bakes for some time now. I don't even remember where I learned about it, likely some social media outlet. However, they are only open on Saturdays from 8am-12pm in the space that is Morning Owl on Rochester St on weekdays. As an aside, I think this is a great business model where businesses that are only open on weekdays allow other businesses to use their space on weekends! Their limited hours is a limiting factor for me because I enjoy sleeping in on weekends, lol. It would be one thing if they were in my neighbourhood, but they are not. Anyway, I discovered that Adam Bakes items are sold at The Bower Coffee Company, which IS in my neighbourhood and their hours are less limited. Spoiler Alert: what I had was so good, I hauled my butt out to the actual Adam Bakes shop the following Saturday to try more of their goods! So the item that got me hooked was the Cinnamon Swirl Blondie ($4.85 at Bower Coffee or $4 directly from Adam Bakes). It was so soft and rich and had creamy cheesecake bits swirled it. It had a potent cinnamon flavour and I loved it. When I went to the actual Adam Bakes shop I got a Ham and Swiss Croissant ($5), a regular croissant ($4.75) and an Apple Turnover ($6). The croissant was delicious. The croissant was very flakey and buttery. The ham in the Ham and Swiss Croissant was a fattier cut with less protein content than the type of ham I like, so I will stick with the regular croissants in the future. I might try the roast beef croissant when that one is offered again (not always on the menu). The apple turnover was filled with apples and coated in cinnamon sugar, a bit too much cinnamon sugar for me though, lol. It was tasty nonetheless, but at $6, I felt the croissant was better bang for my buck. I'm looking forward to trying their other offerings. The staff there recommended the date square for next time. He said the crust has pistachios and candied oranges in it. Yum. I will likely take his suggestion ;) Staff were friendly and welcoming. The cafe is cozy and has some patio seating as well a indoor seating. Street parking only, but readily available and free on Saturdays. Review #134 (2025)
