We saw this spot on the Food Channel awhile ago and we bookmarked it, as Canada was on our short list to visit. We drove from Quebec to Niagara and one day on the road this was the perfect pit stop for coffee and an early lunch. We stopped by for brunch. We didn't have to wait for a table but they most of the tables were full, and they constantly had people coming in just to buy bread and pastries to go! I can definitely see why this place is so popular. They offer 90 minutes of free parking, by scanning a QR code at the door and entering your plate number. I was originally a little worried at that wouldn't be enough time but it definitely was. When I got in, the bread and pastries counter immediately caught our eye, so we had to try them. We ended up getting two pastries and lucked out with a BOGO deal. I am not sure if that is an every Sunday thing or if we just happened to be there at the right time. The pastries were really enjoyable, and the chocolate almond croissant was my favourite. It was super flaky, buttery, and sweet. One thing to note, I didn't see any prices listed for the pastries at the counter nor on the slip to order from the table. They turned out to be more expensive than I thought. Also to note from the receipt, it mentions $8.75 for the o-towner (thur-sun) so I'm not sure if pricing is different depending on the day of the week. After seeing so many people ordering the pizza, we decided to get one too. It is not a traditional pizza. It is more like toppings layered over bread, and I honestly loved that about it. The hot honey with the bacon was so good. The sweet and savory combination really worked. I also tried some of the fries with their house ketchup. The fries were perfectly crispy, and the ketchup had such a unique flavor. That is definitely something I would order myself next time. Before leaving, I grabbed a loaf of their seeded bread since they were running a BOGO 50 percent off deal. The loaf was hefty and much denser than typical grocery store sliced bread. We got the buttermilk multiseed. The seeds added great texture and flavour. It is a little expensive at about $9.25 per loaf, but the quality shows. I would say it's a little pricey overall, especially considering the casual vibe of the place, but if you're able to get some of the deals like we did, it's not too bad. My first time here. Walked in sunday morning the place was full. You can scan a code for 90min free parking. Just bring your plate number. You need to scan a QR code and enter information. We gave our name to the hostess. About a 30 minutes wait, there was two couples and a family before us. On sunday only the breakfast and not sandwich menu is available. I always get the the same thing for breakfast eggs and becon. The candied becon was amazing, the beans... really not for me not sweet or salty. Lacking flavour. My boyfriend received is plate cold. It's totally worth the 4.5 hours drive (from Toronto) over the long weekend just to get my hands on their infamous "O-Towner" cronut! The cronut was flaky and soft, and together with the strawberry-raspberry cream filling it was just so perfect! The cream wasn't that sweet which was a bonus. If you thought the cream only existed on the exterior as decoration, you were totally wrong. Once the cronut was cut open, there was cream hidden so it would stay creamy and flaky every single bite! On Sundays the bakery opened until 2pm for brunch service only, which meant you could only select from their breakfast menu if you were craving for something hot to fill your stomach. We ordered their eggs benny with a side of roasted potato. The eggs were cooked perfectly and beautifully with lava-runny yolks on top of buttery English muffins, covered with Hollandaise sauce... my oh my!! read more

We dined in on Saturday morning and although the place was busy, there was lots of place to sit since the outdoor terrace can accomodate a lot people. All menu options were online so we already knew what we wanted - we tried the "fatty spuddy" breakfast sandwich which has an egg, bacon, a giant hasbrown patty in an english muffin served with house ketchup and hollandaise sauce. My partner got the eggs bene and avocado plate. The portions are generous and filling, I did not expect my sandwich to be this giant. We also got to try their famous O towner pastries which are a cross between a donut and a croissant, filled with pastry cream, a giant mushy chocolate cookie and a raspberry bar. Everything we tried was delicious and unique. I love that everything is truly made from scratch, the ketchup and even the bacon are prepared in house - it doesn't get any better. The O-towners here...they were heavenly, an indulgence, a tower of croissanty airy crunchy sugary texture! And the filling! It was perfect with the amount and sweetness so it's not overbearing on the pastry itself! We went first thing in the morning (bc they sell out quick!) and snagged 2 O-towners. I came up to Ottawa from Rochester, NY with some friends and of all of our meals, breakfast-dinner, this was our favorite. I never heard of Art is in Bakery, but I read that I could not get breakfast in Ottawa without coming here. My friends and I arrived about 5 mins after opening and the line was already out the door. I got a bacon egg and cheese on a croissant and the hazelnut O-towner doughnut. The breakfast sandwich was divine! The croissant was light and buttery and the bacon was sweet, salty, and crispy. I did not expect to be so blown away by the O-towner doughnut. It was light and airy and the filling was perfect. It had just the right level of sweetness without overpowering the doughnut. We initially sat outside because it was beautiful out, but we were constantly being swarmed by bees, so we ended up sitting inside. Despite that, the bakery looked lovely inside. It was really artsy with a lot of nice work on the walls. You cannot brunch in Ottawa without coming here. It is not easy to get to without a car, but well loved by locals with extensive seating available indoors and picnic bench style outdoors. The menu is very extensive and at times overwhelming with burgers, brunch items, burgers, and exceptional pizza. They even have unique items like Croque Monsieur for the prententious friend that wants to be fancy when you are eating a brunch burger. The burgers are HUGE and you surprise yourself that you can hold it in your hands some days. There are many items for the friends with a low appetite or someone who is not hungry. They have a huge selection of freshly baked breads and the Cronut is to die for with seasonal flavors. All the items have generous portions. The only downside is the take home aisle that is really overpriced and a bit of a scam. They have jars for ready to make cookies, or unbaked cinnamon rolls, or pints of ice cream for the $15-$25 range which I find to be a bit uncomfortable pricing wise for items you then have to prepare yourself... For lunch, I had a chicken sandwich and for breakfast I had the French toast. Their pizza looked delicious on the menu. We picked up a few pastries: almond croissant, butter croissant and their famous O tower (black currant flavour). The o tower is essentially a Cronut .... But a HUGE cronut!! And a perfect one at that. I wish I wasn't eating this in the car so I could get a picture of the cross section because it was immaculate. We visited Ottawa for the Family Day weekend and our cousins took us here. Our Toronto cousins always make a stop here for their yummy breakfasts! Since we had 13 people (6 adults and 7 kids 3-11 in age) we were up early and went early. Good thing too because it gets super busy and you have to order first before taking a seat. You would never notice this place if you didn't know of its location. It is situated in the back of what looks like an industrial building. We were created with a display FULL of delectable goodies: cronuts, cookies, croissants and other baked goods. Their brunch menu was very appealing. We ordered the candied maple eggs Benedict. It came with a potato hashbrown cake. The egg was perfectly poached and the candied maple bacon was delicious! Our kids tried the savory French toast which had bacon on it and cheddar cheese (we asked for it in the side). I think I would've preferred the sweet French toast that had berries and whipped cream. French toast just seems right with berries instead of bacon. The kids thought that the toast was a bit in the sweet side. The breakfast burgers were enormous. One of the older kids got one and was able to devour the entire thing! We definitely want to return the next time we visit Ottawa. read more

This is a really fun location for brunch. The menu is a bit smaller than the rest of the week, but the food is really good. Total upfront warning however - the prices are a little high for some of the items. Yes, its very good quality. But $18 for an eggs and bacon plate is high. BUT that plate comes with your choice of their very delicious bread. So, worth it for an occasional splurge. The coffee here is a total treat. I tried the vanilla maple latte with oat milk and absolutely LOVED it. We lucked out and got to enjoy one of the last gorgeous falls days out on the patio. The patio is technically a sectioned off part of the parking lot, but that's part of the charm of this particular building. It's also right next to the patio from Beyond The Pale. And if Art Is In closes a little early (like it did for us - Sun at 2pm) then you can just step right on over to Beyond The Pale and continue your fun in the sun. read more

so let me start from the manager who greeted us at the door , she asked if we had ever been to the restaurant at which point I said we saw the restaurant featured in diners, drive ins and dives so we were visiting from Toronto and wanted to check it out . Her response was "really ?! huh why ? I will say our server was extraordinary he described the food , was attentive and very apologetic when we spoke about the manager and food and in the end he did all he could to help make up for everything. Now the food , the chicken sandwich had a small piece of chicken only filling half of the bun and was so salty it could not be eaten . the pizzas were salty as well but also close to burnt and they got the order wrong so we had to wait for another pizza but while waiting the manager came and asked if we were still hungry because we hadn't finished our food and we said we were waiting on the other pizza at which time she grumbled oh and walked away . Our waiter then informed us she had given our pizza we were waiting for away to another table !! At this point we said we would take it to go as it was getting to be a long wait and he said we would get two desserts to go for the trouble ( we were a table of 7 by the way) but we said ok thinking we would get 2 cronuts as that is their specialty so we were happy . when we got home we opened the desserts only to find apple crumble that looked like it had been dropped on the floor .
