The first time we went into this Anytime Fitness we were so impressed! The guy helping us was…read morereally helpful and he gave us a tour of the gym. He made it clear what fees would apply if we had decided to sign up for the membership. There was no pressure to sign up, and then we left to decide between Planet Fitness and Anytime Fitness as our new gym of choice. This Anytime Fitness location is really clean and smells great! This was another big factor in our decision when choosing a gym. The machines seemed like they were well kept and they had some really neat technology. There is a room on the side of the building that has an electronic "personal" trainer. There are also classes to choose from that you can do in the room with a projector and a screen. We went in to sign up for the membership and the owner was there. I believe his name was Mazi. At first he seemed nice but as we started asking questions he was really pushy and it seemed like everything that came out of his mouth was another fee that we would have to pay at the beginning of our membership. The application requires you to put you social security number on it and all of your credit card information for billing. While we were in the office the owner was taking pictures of documents to send to his wife to be entered into the computer system because she was working from home. We stepped outside of the office to talk about all of the fees because all said and done it would have been about $215 to sign up for the membership for the first month. We asked about cancellation fees if we needed to cancel for some reason and were never given a straight answer. It turns out the only way you can cancel is if you live more than 29 miles away from an Anytime Fitness! After talking about it we decided to go check out Planet Fitness and see what their fees were. He kept asking us what the problem was and why we didn't want to sign up for the membership, the main reason we didn't want to sign up for it at this point was because of him. As we were about to leave we asked if we could take the application with us since it had our social and credit card information on it and we were told no because we could only take it if we became members of the gym. He then proceeded to black everything out on the form and tear it up after about 3 minutes of us asking him to shred it if we couldn't take it with us, but only after saying, "Why are you guys so worried about it? Did something happen?" After we were trying to leave he literally chased us out into the parking lot trying to tell us that we could try out the gym for the day and then make our decision. The best decision we made today was NOT signing up with Anytime Fitness.

Having gone to several locations in the Clinton, Brickyard, and West Valley, so far the Bountiful…read morelocation might be my preferred location. While it certainly has its peak busy hours, it's never too crowded that you can't find equipment to work on (even if folks tend to hog the free weights), and there's a nice variety of machines and weights to use at your disposal. Bathroom lockers are a bit of a disappointment, and I have noticed on separate occasions there are often units that have loose deadbolts that prevent them from staying locked even with a lock, so make sure you check before you store any of your stuff there.

YOU DEFINITELY DO THIS IF THE TEMPERATURE OUTSIDE IS ALMOST 100 DEGREES. IT'S JUST FASCINATING TO OBSERVE. THIS HAS ACTUALLY BEEN GOING ON FOR DAYS. I DIDN'T DO CARDIO TODAY SO I CAN'T ACTUALLY SAY I'M SURE ABOUT TODAY, BUT COME ON. THERE'S NO QUESTION. Since my last review, two more treadmills have broken (no sign on either of them) and one is in the process of going out. There is no way the staff doesn't hear it croaking like a frog all day and night. The treadmill situation is officially messing up my workouts now. I have to arrange them around availability or potential availability of a machine. There have been people upstairs literally wandering around trying to find an available, functioning treadmill. For some time now I have also been watching person after person after person after person step onto a broken treadmill, step off of it and onto another broken treadmill, etc. Perhaps as a member I should bring a guest for a day, that guest being a notorious local consumer advocate. For now, the lifting area and associated machines seem okay. There's a member here, middle aged dude, sometimes wears glasses, who has a red towel around his neck. I think I only see him upstairs. I don't know if he lifts. He wrings out that sweat towel over the drinking fountain. He's probably a manager. I am happy with the amount of my monthly payment. I used to consider this to be a good place to work out. It could be one again. I don't want to wound the gym. I want to motivate the staff and the ownership, who I deeply hope will see all of the reviews on this page. I don't want the gym to close. I want it to succeed massively. VASA, don't have some teenager send me a dumb platitude.

We showed up right on time, went through our normal routine, and the staff member at the door physically stopped us from coming in, saying they were "at capacity" despite the appointment. When I said I had a scheduled spot, she basically told me that wasn't her problem. No solution offered, no apology. Right after I left, I got an email confirming the appointment had been canceled, so either their system failed and she didn't know, or it was canceled after the fact to cover it. This isn't the first time. In recent months I've been stopped multiple times while already mid-workout - once already on a machine - by staff who came up to me telling me I had to scan my barcode even thought I already had, like they were suspicious whether I was even a member, like I needed to prove I belonged there. Six years as a member and I'm treated like someone sneaking in off the street. If you're going to require appointments for daycare, then honor them. Turning away a kid whose mom booked ahead and showed up on time is a failure on every level. To make it worse, canceling my membership has been its own ordeal, phone lines claiming I'm calling outside business hours during posted hours, an online cancellation form that locks you out with a broken login, and when I went in person to cancel, they still wouldn't refund the annual fee I was charged just three days before all of this happened. Six years. Won't be back. If you're considering this location for daycare-dependent workouts, don't count on it.

Although I love food more than exercise, I realize that to combat the first (eat well), I must do…read morethe second (work out). Skills fitness has been a great place for helping strengthen my core. I really need to spend more time here, but I at least try to make my commitment to attend the weekly Tuesday evening Pilates class. The instructor is great; she kicks my butt every time. And as a result, my core muscles have improved greatly from my lethargic sedentary lifestyle of a few years ago. I also occasionally use the media room treadmill and watch movies on the huge screen. And the hot tub, sauna and steam room are great for a sore bod. I still have the gut to prove my love of food and beer. But I can carry it with pride knowing that there are some stronger muscles underneath that will help me keep moving into my 60s. I can highly recommend this nice, clean and professional gym in North Bountiful.

The only time I haven't been a member was when I was away at college. I even worked for skills for a year. It's my favorite gym in the world, but with the new ownership things have really gone downhill. When I used to work at skills we cleaned the bathrooms every shift. Now I'd be surprised if they are cleaned once a week. The bathrooms are absolutely nasty. And with the new ownership they've switched to a system where someone is only manning the front desk for a few hours a day, meaning no towel service, no help with memberships, no movies in the cinema room. The cinema room has been turned into the spin studio meaning no more working out while watching a film. The yoga studio was torn down and made into some weird stretching space. Buttons on machines are broken and will go for months without being fixed. And forget using the hot tub or sauna -- they are always broken. The class schedule used to be packed during the morning and evening, now there's only one class offered during the evenings most nights. And while everything has changed, prices have gone up a few bucks -- which isn't a big deal, but I paid for what skills used to be. I used to love skills. It was a great local gym with the best amenities, equipment, and classes around. But it's turned into a sad shell of its former self. I've cancelled my membership and switched gyms. I hope they can turn skills around before it's too late.
