There is a small parking lot out front with 2 handicap stalls. We were able to do the hike pretty quick with them, about 15 min. There is gravel/sand with a wide path. It's curves through the woods with vegetation around. Three points to stop and look. The last view was nice of the sisters and broken top. No water access from this hike but the other, longer, trail has it. The kids liked the hike and enjoyed running through and finding walking sticks. Two restrooms at the beginning - gender neutral. Shady for the most part with a few sun rays coming through. We used some bug spray so no issues for us. On the way out we saw a coyote running across the road. Stay safe!!

Nice, easy hike with fabulous views!…read more The trailhead is an easy and pretty drive from Sisters. We'd seen some reviews for this trail and decided to try it out while in town. The trail head has a decent sized lot and toilets, and the trail itself is well marked. It's a loop, and according to the sign taking the trail to the right was supposedly a bit rougher...we didn't find it so. We did the full loop, along which you're provided multiple overlooks. The main overlook towards the mountains is large, with views down to the river below as well. The whole path is easy and not much of a slope. We decided to take an offshoot trail down to the river after we left the overlook. It was a nice, narrow trail that zig zagged down. There were other trails that crossed it at the bottom that weren't marked, so we just used the sounds of the water to get there. A very peaceful, easy trail with beautiful views of the Sisters.

I came here to see the source of the Metolius and was blown away by how well done they've made this…read morespot. Big parking lot, a beautiful paved path through the forest with a really nice rustic wood fence along the entire stretch. Takes you right to the source, which you can kind of see bubbling up out of the earth through the trees. There's also a nice view of the river with a snowy mountain (Jefferson?) in the background. I don't know that I need to come back, but I'm really glad I stopped by.

While the air of mystery associated with the head is very cool...the river seems to appear from nowhere...the actual visual reward once there in person was definitely underwhelming. It's a very nice trailhead with lots of parking, picnic tables, and toilets (which were very clean). A short, paved, flat walkway takes you directly to the head. I'm not sure what I expected to see, but there's honestly nothing to take in. Maybe it would've been better to leave the head of the Metolius as a mystery! :) It's an easy find and a peaceful leisurely stroll to the head, but one and done. Save your time with this and just hike the beautiful river instead!

The majority of their business is focused on guests who are staying at the ranch (many from overseas) who want to go on longer trail rides or an old fashioned cattle drive a la City Slickers. Since we already have a home in the area, we didn't get to take advantage of their hospitality as guests. However, we did visit to enjoy a trail ride. My boys love to ride, but it has been quite difficult finding a trail ride that satisfies all of our needs. We've tried Diane's Riding Place, but they tend to be more instructional. The stables at the Seventh Mountain Resort were only OK. My goal was to get more of an 'authentic' trail ride with a little bit of fun. We were only partially successful. First off, making reservations wasn't terribly easy. After calling the main business line, I was given a second number to dial for the stables. Since the focus is on their ranch guests, they don't seem to be overly eager to take outside riders. Fortunately, some of those guests had another activity planned, so we were able to arrange a ride. It turned out to be semi-private and Katie was a wonderful guide. You will sign a brief liability waiver, and riders must wear jeans and boots. The boots requirement was a first, but fortunately they have plenty to borrow at no charge. Children are also required to wear helmets. The ranch covers 600 acres, so they took a gentle ride up through the hills to enjoy the view of the Three Sisters. It was a good ride, but low on the excitement factor. No cantering or galloping, just an easy mosey up and back. Unlike the prior reviewer, the ride lasted exactly 60 minutes, so no complaints there. It is really disappointing that there aren't more horseback riding options in the area. These hills are filled with ranches, but due to liability concerns, very few open their doors to the public. This place was EXACTLY what we were looking for on our way home from our family vacation. We…read morewanted somewhere quiet to lay our heads down, somewhere 'different' than the normal hotel scene, and a place that our kids would remember. The Long Hollow Ranch checked every one of those boxes. We stayed in the Homestead cabin, which had three beds upstairs, and one downstairs. The cabin had two strong window AC units, which were wonderful. The cabin had no TV, which was great, but did have a vintage stove that served as a table top for the in-room microwave. There's also a mini-fridge and a Keurig Coffee Maker. Beds were comfy, bathroom has hot water in the shower, and the decor was fantastic. The morning breakfast was signaled by a good old-fashioned dinner bell at the main house, which is beautiful. There were lots of hash browns, fruit, juice and more. They even offered to cook each of us an egg to order, which our son took advantage of. The breakfast was absolutely great. All in all, this place was well worth the price, which was already much lower than other places on our trip. They even let us dabble with our fly pole in their bass pond free of charge. They accommodated our late check in (10 PM) and even had the AC going when we arrived. Customer service was top notch. This is the definition of a 5 STAR property.

A northwest forest pass is required to park at the trailhead. If you don't already have one you can purchase a day pass in the parking lot. This is a popular trail so I recommend coming early! The trail itself is a steep and dusty incline. It is hard work to get to the top, but you will be distracted by the Mountain View's and gorgeous wildflowers along the way. Once at the top there are 360 degree views and an old fire lookout. This is a great spot to stop and enjoy a snack and take it all in!

Sisters is a perfect little city, in my humble opinion. And one of the best things to do is just to…read morestroll... through art galleries, then grabbing a cup of coffee at Sisters Coffee House or an ice cream cone from BJ's True Old Fashioned Batch Ice Cream, then kicking back in this park. When the days are hot, and that is often in Central Oregon, this is always a nice shady spot. It connects Cascade Avenue and Ash Street and has a few wood carved benches, a public restroom and a small water feature with a glorious sculpture. As a nod to one of Sisters' biggest tourist attractions, the annual Quilt Show, there is a large mural on one wall with a series of colorful quilts blowing in the wind. The park is tiny but still manages to pack a punch. It is the location of the Sisters Farmer's Market on Friday nights in the summer, which has a good selection of vendors and usually some musical entertainment on the lawn. But, it is just a great place to take a moment and enjoy the area any day of the week. Essentially in the middle of it all, just the perfect place to catch your breath. The full name of the park is Harold & Dorothy Barclay Park, who were early residents and mill owners. I can't think of a nicer way to be remembered by my community.

Diane's Riding Place offers a fantastic horseback riding experience for everyone. We took our four…read moregrandchildren to ride and learn to be cowboys and a cowgirl on the beautiful grounds and trails. Diane has the utmost patience with all of us beginner riders. The kids learned how to lead the horses and not let the horses lead them, not to be afraid of the horses, and to enjoy the trail rides. Diane is extremely knowledgeable and kind. Her horses are well cared for. She took fabulous photos for us while we were on the horses so we adults could enjoy ourselves and not worry about capturing the perfect photo. I highly recommend Diane's Riding Place.

My son, who was 3, was terrified. He was in love by the end of his first ride as was our daughter. Five years later and we made it back! This time for our daughter's tenth birthday celebration. My partner is a hot springs enthusiast and always seems to have this on his list for how he wants…read moreto celebrate his birthday. The drive out from Portland is long, but after you get here the trip is really enjoyable, we often try to plan a night somewhere closer. It's 12$ for a 2 hour visit, they do take credit cards. We tend to be here mid week mid day so we have not had any issue with parking. There are always other people present, but it has never seemed overly busy. The staff we interact with are always very pleasant. There is a bathroom in the parking lot. It's a short walk up to the hot springs, I'm confident mostly anyone could do this. It's nice to feel like you are in nature. I imagine this was a much more beautiful area before the fires, but I am thankful that it did reopen and is usable. Do make sure you bring some water to stay hydrated while hot springing. Do be aware that sometimes people are unclothed at hot springs. Also know that hot springs are hot and this may not be how you want to spend a hot day. There are multiple pools of multiple sizes which do vary in heat. There is a small stream with cold water running nearby. There are places to sit where you can be partially in the water. If you are planning to walk around a lot you may want water shoes as these rocks can be hot on your feet. We always have a nice time and leave feeling rejuvenated. I keep meaning to look into camping options nearby. I'd love to experience this with some friends on my next visit.
