Came here for dinner and had a pleasant time. Came the night before thanksgiving so I was expecting it to slammed, they got busy later into our stay but stayed on top of things. Server, Maria, was lovely, highly attentive, and knowledgeable of the menu even though it had just come out the same day. Food was great for a resort/ranch, it was far better than most. Steak was cooked to perfection, fish was delicious. Will definitely make it back there was next time I am passing by for dinner. Fantastic resort. Great views, good architecture, fantastic food (ate 4 meals at 3 different restaurants and each was very special), excellent pool, golf course, and paths. Friend staff. When I read the reviews from typical Yelpies, it reminds me why in general I hate Yelp - a bunch of entitled, whiny jerks. Listen to these arrogant, self righteous issues: Jose A thought the app was clunky..., Shelly's pasta sauce was watery, Kaye gave 1 star because of an incorrect closing time posted... If you are a normal, positive attitude person, you'll love this resort. If you get your self worth from criticizing (a Yelpie), you'll find something about it to wreck your day. read more

Stayed from 6/27/25 to 6/29/25. Facilities around the ranch are in good condition, specially the lake side pool. Awesome. Big meadow golf course was beautiful. The restaurants around the property close very early, 8 pm which seems odd specially for summer. The website and app are awful and clunky, we actually had an easier time using the old school map to find things around the ranch. The lodge room we stayed at was disgusting and the absolute bare to be called a room. The cable also didn't work. The tv was the size of Michael Scott's in the office. Filthy carpets, filthy bedding, unpatched holes in walls. Will never stay here again, specially for $700. read more

We opted for the bar upstairs because we golfed all day. The atmosphere is amazing, the staff is ok and it took a while to get our food. My pasta may have been freshly made but the mushroom sauce was watery ( more like a broth) and tasteless (literally) my husband's smash burger was DRY as a bone "his words". read more

We had a beautiful and delicious dinner. My starter was the amazing steamers and my husband had a fresh crisp Caeser salad. My main was the super creative scallops. My husband loved the Rib eye that was cooked to perfection. Our server, Paola, was just incredible. My only complaint would be that the glassware was not polished. I love when my glassware sparking clean. I just hate spotted and messy looking glasses (pet peeve) other than that, we highly recommend. read more

We had high expectations, however, the experience was far from a fine dining experience that you would expect from the Black Butte Ranch Lodge. First off, most of the meals were fair to OK at best. The duck came out, looking like it was mangled by the backyard dog, our steaks were good, but mine had hard bristle on at least 1/8 of it that I never had a chance to eat... I wonder if that's part of the weight of the portion size that they sell to you? All of us had vegetables (sides) with our meals, and they were all undercooked and small in portion size. It was a a fine-dining atmosphere, but the service wasn't. In fact the service was awkward as it was inexperienced at best, in that our main server was experienced, but the rest of the crew was not. All were very nice, however, lacking in higher service standards!! Our bill was $332 + a mandatory 20% tip ($68) ... we told the on shift management -- not expecting any freebies as we are all affluent -- however, this place was not worth the money paid. read more

First, the view is amazing. Second, the food is terrible. I'm not kidding, the worst meal I've had in a very long time. Oysters on the half was the appetizer special......they were out at 6:00 pm. so, I chose the wild boar instead. It was tough, and tasted like nothing. I ordered the halibut for my entree and I'm utterly blown away by how awful it tasted. Halibut is my most favorite fish to eat, and I order it whenever I can. I'm not kidding when I say this. it took effort to make it taste that bad...I would have been much happier with McDonalds. read more

Came here for a quick bite after a hike and it was great! I got their chicken sandwich and splurged with an apple fritter. The apple fritter was absolutely divine, crispy and fluffy and just the right amount of apples. The chicken sandwich was pretty great as well. Their fries are very crispy. The sandwich could use a bit more chicken, but we're still pretty good! I really enjoyed my meal with the beautiful scenery by sitting outside next to the fire. The lodge dinners are excellent. The service is top-notch. The servers are friendly, and make you feel welcome. The breakfast and lunch at the Lakeside bistro are very good. The pizza at the bistro is delicious. The breakfast pastries and coffee, refresh and delicious. The steak, the steelhead, the pork chops and the mediterranean plate from the lodge were all delicious. The Pickleball courts swimming pool steam room and hot tub were all fun to use. The weight room is nice clean and has plenty of equipment to work out. The catch and release lake is awesome for beginning trout fishing. Fly fishing only though and catch him release only. it's a great place to practice before going to the creeks or streams or rivers. read more

Fairy tale wedding dreams come true at Black Butte Ranch! My fiancé and I wanted to have our destination wedding ceremony in Oregon after getting engaged there during a business trip. We searched several venues in Central Oregon and Black Butte Ranch was the winner by far. The beauty of the venue is incredible and the price tag was affordable considering the value and benefits of everything included. We were thrilled to learn that the venue came with a "day of coordinator", Alicia. She was incredibly communicative and helpful as we worked to find vendors while being out of state. Alicia is super organized and we were grateful for her knowledge and expertise as we planned our wedding. Alicia never pushed us in any direction, but always gave her honest opinion when asked and supported us in all our goals no matter how crazy they may have seemed. No stone went unturned and Alicia worked her incredible magic to make sure every detail was attended to and everyone had a great time (including us as the bride and groom). We had the pleasure of working with Michelle as well throughout the planning process and although our interaction was limited, her efforts and kindness did not go unnoticed. Both ladies genuinely care and want the best for every bride, groom and wedding. I am in awe of the incredible talent in every aspect of this remote and scenic location at Black Butte Ranch! The food was incredible! My fiancé and I are foodies and having good food at our wedding was super important to us (another reason we chose this venue). Chef & team blew this one out of the water! Everyone RAVED about how great the food was! Several attendees specifically mentioned how much they enjoyed the bartender, Cort, for his kindness and knowledge of the area. All of our ~40 ish attendees had a blast staying on the ranch. We were able to horseback ride, hike, swim and look at the stars over fire pits in the evening. Everyone was able to "choose their own adventure" and do things that appealed to them and their families on and around the ranch. As our wedding date approached, COVID-19 began hitting the US and we had to stop planning everything and prepare for a possibility that we might need to change our wedding date. Alicia was incredible at keeping in touch with changes in Oregon and being flexible with every twist and turn. I have friends who were unable to reach their venues at all during the shutdown, but Alicia returned every email and initiated them (usually followed by a call to answer questions) with every change in the news and restrictions. A week before our wedding restrictions changed again and Alicia was on the ball ready to make adjustments to accommodate our wedding within protocols. We are incredibly lucky and grateful we were able to have our intimate wedding on our planned date. We never planned for COVID prior to our wedding (obviously), but with the outdoor space and vast expanse of the venue, we were still able to have our fairytale wedding (while meeting every social distance/mask/COVID requirement for us, our guests and the venue). Alicia and the venue went to great effort and made several adjustments to make sure their staff and our attendees were safe while still enjoying a beautiful wedding & reception. The day of the wedding Alicia kept us all on track and would silently appear, gently and patiently guiding us to our next timeline activity or even just bringing us food or a water to ensure we weren't starving and dehydrated all day. She was absolutely the fairy godmother of this fairy tale! Being in front of the lake with the mountains and sunshine on our day felt like a Cinderella moment. I kept wanting to pinch myself to make sure it wasn't a dream. One of the groomsmen told us this was the best wedding he had EVER attended. A couple of our attendees said that we helped their families make memories at a place they never would have ventured or chosen, but each couldn't wait to come back. I know the crazy looks we received when we told our invitees that we were venturing out of state to Black Butte Ranch, Oregon for our wedding for no other reason than we wanted to share the magic we found there with those we love. The joyful smiles and looks of awe on the face of our guests were proof enough that they had found the magic for themselves as well. There is a place... I wouldn't change a single thing about our day and I owe it all to Alicia, Michelle, & the team at Black Butte Ranch. 10/10 HIGHLY RECOMMEND this location for ANY wedding! read more

Just got back from an amazing weekend spent at the ranch! We went on a walk through the meadow which was absolutely breathtaking. I decided that I wanted to try horseback riding for the first time so I called the stable and they were able to get me in on a 60 minute ride that same day! It was so much fun! On our last day, we tried breakfast at the lodge. We waited for awhile to be helped and then we also waited a long time for our food. I know it's still fairly new so I was patient with them. I really wanted to like this place.. (Review is mostly related to our stay in one of their condos - the VRBO experience could be vastly different) The nickel and dime ranch as I'd like to call it, started by souring my check in process when they told us the room wouldn't be ready until 6p (2 hours after their 4pm check in time). I can understand staff shortages, but check out is at 11am. There should've been some added urgency as well since I was part of a wedding party that had rehearsal at 4:30p. Then, at 5:30p I was told the room I had initially booked was unavailable due to a plumbing problem and they'd need to move to me a different room for check in. This is where the real ball dropped.. for a two night stay I paid over $300 per night not including taxes and "resort fee". I'd expect, with a $300 price tag that the room would be really nice and welcoming. In reality, it was an incredibly out of date, poorly maintained "clubhouse" that I'd expect for high school kids in summer camp. It had doorways that opened to the adjacent rooms which could be unlocked without a key from an inner hallway. My room had unlocked access to the adjacent room and there was NO way for you to lock this from your side. If either adjacent room had an unlocked door to this hallway, they could've gotten into our room at any time. The curtain that hung over the really beautiful sliding glass door to the back patio didn't appropriately cover the entire glass opening. This resulted in some fairly easy visual access for any passerby who might happen to be looking into the room, which is also facing the bed. Speaking of the bed, it was easily 15+ years old. Small, squeaky, uncomfortable and quite honestly I've of the worst beds I've ever slept on. Oh, and the plumbing problem must've been pretty bad, because the shower in my new room didn't drain properly and you were standing in 2-3 inches of slowly draining water the whole time. The room was also severely lacking in any worthwhile amenities.. no comfortable couch, cheap mis-matched deck chairs, no hand towels (literally only shower towels and only 2 of them).. So at this point you might ask yourself.. "well maybe the room is expensive because it gives you access to all the resort amenities so the price is justified?" Unfortunately, it doesn't. Renting a kayak on the property is $13 per person for 30 min increments.. two people kayaking for 2 hours will run you a smooth $72. Want to rent a bike to ride around the beautiful property? No problem, $39 per day! The only thing that was "free" was the pool and hot tub which were always PACKED.. like, standing room only packed. The only reason I gave two stars is because the service was outstanding for the entirety of the trip. Everyone was super nice, incredibly helpful, and even with all the challenges, made the trip reasonably enjoyable. I'd be happy to come back and experience Black Butte Ranch again, but I'll be renting a house with VRBO next time and avoiding the 1980s run-down and outdated condo at a luxury price. read more

We stopped here after camping at Big Lake. We were just going to check it out. Couldn't find the trails but ended up eating lunch at the cafe. It's a good place to know about for a place to eat something, coffee, and nice views. The pizza was pretty good though it took some time. Stopped in the Lakeside Bistro this fall after a hike around the Metolius. Food quality used to be excellent, but was very disappointing this time. Might be under new ownership, and they are on a learning curve, but not sure we will go back except for baked goodies, which are still amazing (really good GF treats!). Staff is super friendly, and the café is very clean with a nice variety on the menu. But, the Ceaser salad was covered in dressing and couldn't be finished. The fall harvest salad used to be SO good, but now it's very dry - like NO dressing - and doesn't live up to its great menu description (tiny, dry cubes of sweet potato). Fries were cold and blah. We didn't finish any of our food. Plus, wish they served a local, organic tea like Metolius Teas to support local business and to offer a healthy option. Hoping it gets better. My son wanted to take us for a special brunch. They had gone before but to their other restaurant which no longer served breakfast to we went next door to the cafe.. First and foremost the views are amazing and the lodge was warm and inviting.. This review is focused on our breakfast experience. We ordered the eggs Benedict which was salty, the muffin needed a sharper knife to cut it and the sauce lacked flavor. The egg itself was cooked well. On top of that the hash brown style potatoes were pretty much mush. Also ordered the waffles and friend chicken that was better but not great. We had assumed no matter which of their places served food they would hold to the same quality standard. With the amazing surrounding atmosphere I hope management make sure all aspects meet the same high standards. read more

Spoke to manager upon check out stating that we were unaware of limited opening dates at nearby Hoodoo ski area. We were staying here specifically for it's proximity and package deal that was offered on website. So the breakdown was that we spent $1300 to stay 4 nights and didn't get to attend Hoodoo until our last day and we blew off 3 days worth of play because Hoodoo Autobahn is closed Mon-Thurs and Ski area is closed on Tues and Wed. This is the kicker: the manager says that they assume we as a consumer would figure out which days Hoodoo is open and they didn't divulge the limited open dates because of the above mentioned. WOW. How does a lodging offer a package deal but doesn't say when the ski is open? So ranch grounds are remote and well maintained, ranch is 8 miles from anything else (Sisters nearest store/offsite restaurant/gas area and Hoodoo Ski area in other direction), front desk is an 800# away, and hwy 20 is well cleared even with active moderate snowfall. The place is what you would expect at this level of lodging cost, just not really good at the customer service end and online info is inferior. All of this to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary... but hey, we still had a great time! read more

We had a semi-destination wedding here! Wedding on Saturday with Rehearsal on Friday Morning. Miniature honeymoon from Sunday to Monday. It was all perfect! (A little windy but the staff did a great job of keeping us warm!) My husband and I absolutely loved this location, the staff, and the main wedding coordinator - Alicia (we also worked with Bri the day of and was also great!) They did little things to make us feel special (setting up a projector for us so my maids of honor could give their toasts, playing my exit song at the perfect time, bringing champagne glasses in the Bridal Suite the morning of) and communicated well with our family if there were any questions on the big day (music, mics, and Zoom set-up). During the pandemic and leading up to the wedding, they were extremely flexible and patient with us when it came to making decisions about numbers. We cut down our numbers to 30 about two weeks before the wedding. I was in Touch with Alicia, the wedding coordinator every two weeks for the month leading up to the wedding. The staff was respectful and compliant with COVID-19 regulations when it came to food and the reception. The food was delicious. They were able to do a buffet option for us and had staff members serve so there were not extra hands touching the serving spoons/dishes. The reception was under a tent with string lights and heaters! It was beautiful, even during the winter time with the wind. All of the electronics they had for the wedding were included and worked really well (speaker system so we could attach our phone as I did not want a DJ). I also asked for a Mulled Wine Cocktail for my drink special which they were able to do and that was also delicious - a big hit. Finally, I planned this wedding out of state. It was wonderful to have the wedding coordinator (Alicia) and other wedding essentials included in this Winter Wedding Package - tables, food, drinks, silverware, chairs, reception/ceremony set-up, hot chocolate bar, etc - making it much easier to plan. Honestly, the day of my wedding (thanks to the staff and my family), I did not lift a finger and I was not stressed at all. The night of our honeymoon we walked over to a small apartment with the view of the mountains and our ceremony location. The next day we rented snowshoes and a day pass for Hoodoo (through Black Butte Ranch) and had a great time going snowshoeing. They were easy to rent and return. The area is beautiful. Very nice staff. Good food. Clean condo. Had a facial at their spa, which was AMAZING!!!! Had a pedi--NOT amazing. Nice girl, but they have the cheapest massage chairs I've ever seen. They just vibrate, and they put a plastic tub of water in them. The girl clearly has not been trained in doing pedi, but she tried. There will be a separate review for the stables that rent land, providing horseback rides as they are separate business but DO NOT USE them!! There are lots of other things to do. Overall, I would come again. read more

My wife wanted to have her birthday dinner at the new BBR lodge. First, Christine our server was fabulous! Second, the meal was fantastic! Complements to both BBR team members The reason I am giving our experience two stars is because of Stephanie the lead hostess. We entered an empty restaurant with only three tables occupied. When we were seated, we were put behind the fireplace blocking the view. I immediately went to the hostess desk occupied by Stephanie and explained that it was my wife's b-day asked for a better table. She said she couldn't help me; all the tables were spoken for and there was nothing she could do. Fast-forward an hour and half later, we had wrapped up our very well-prepared dinner and dessert and gazed upon a half empty room and a fireplace blocking our view. So unfortunate as I would have liked to return with other friends that visit us in Camp Sherman. Bottom line, I would rather drive into Sisters to have dinner than a much shorter drive to Black Butte Ranch and have Stephanie lied to us with a bad attitude. read more

We just stayed here for four nights in a wonderful VRBO. This place is gorgeous!! Our house and the wilderness surrounding us!! My cousin got married at the lodge at an outdoor ceremony on the lake and an outdoor reception at the lodge. Gorgeous venue!!! Food was incredible....special thanks to Ty for keeping my sons Roy Rogers coming and brought him martinellis for the toast. We had a fabulous time at the spa, the Manager Karma made sure my mother's birthday was just as luxurious as she imagined it. We were pampered & spoiled with champagne & lunch that was tasteful & fresh! We had facials & massages with Kimberly, Matt & Mary who were professional & it was obvious these therapists have had years of experience. There were three of us (mom, sister & myself) & their team was able to accommodate all of our requests. We even had access to the entire facility using their sauna, pool, gym, & hot tub. Everyone was so genuine & down to earth making us feel comfortable & right at home starting at the front desk with Gray & Kastle. I took my 11 year old daughter to the lodge resturant for dessert at 8:50pm. The downstairs staff looked frustrated they had two new patrons and sent us upstairs to the bar. The bar did not want patrons and sent us downstairs. When I explained the staff sent us upstairs, they proceeded to complain through our entire stay. The bartender didn't stop complaining the entire 30 minutes we were there. She told new Patton after new patron to leave. She was very loud and made non stop comments about not wanting new patrons and wishing we would hurry up and leave. I would have had more respect if she would have told us we weren't welcome and to leave. Oh yeah, the dessert was mediocre at best. I will never be back. read more

Black Butte Ranch Lodge condo was an utter disappointment. Dated and unkempt, TV non-functional, screen door fell off, door would not lock, no microwave or any thing for any self service food but a tepid small fridge. Important since the Lodge (and therefore food) was closed all day due to a wedding and the other option closed by 9pm. We were there to have a nice 3 day weekend without the kids and found we were "in between seasons" so hours, service and availability "varied" according to the people working there. Closing hours were not posted. Golf was good but forget an evening hot tub for those sore muscles as the pool and hot tub closed by 8pm. Housekeeping was non- existent. This was not a house, it was a very basic hotel type room with a bedroom and a bathroom. They didn't make the bed or change towels. When we asked about it they said we needed to "tell them we wanted housekeeping". We said we did and still didn't get it. It was a depressing room to come back to. Not ones to complain quietly, we called the management right after check in to let them know what wasn't working. Our LAST night there a handyman came by (at 8pm while we were rushing to get to dinner before it closed). He complained about being run ragged, the homeowners, the ranch's management, the equipment he had to work with, the fact that the doors didn't lock right, the supervisor that didn't seem to care that customers were calling to get things fixed........as he was attempting to fix the TV. After a few moments he said he would need to leave to another call without fixing everything that wasn't working! As we were checking out we met with management to inform them of everything that was less than described in their literature. They defended it by saying we could have payed more for a better room. So I guess if you expect to have the basics in a "hotel room" at Black Butte, with working facilities, you need to pay more than $200 a night. We will never stay there again. We will be back to golf in the area though and we found a beautiful Lodge and cabins in Sisters: Fivepines.com where we will stay in the future. read more

First let me say that this review is mostly for the Spa but includes general use of the Black Butte Ranch facilities. We did not stay in any accommodations here so I don't know about that. I looked online for a beautiful place to go for my husbands bday to get a couples massage and lunch. The resort seemed great online. Beautiful views, patio lunch, use of the pool after massage. However the real experience was dearly lacking and hyped up way too much on their website with very little actual useful information posted on there. Way-finding is a nightmare here! We arrived 30 minutes early onto the property to figure out where to go and still we were late to our appointment. We tried parking and finding the spa at the main Lakeside recreation center only to find out its not located at the front easily accessible part of the property. There were generally unhelpful staff there when questioned. 20 questions later we found out we needed to turn down the other fork in the road and go to the visitor information center, get a key code, go thru a gate, meander 10 to 15 minutes down a winding heavily wooded road with bicyclists at every turn to finally arrive at the "luxury spa" late. No body felt this was important information to tell me when I booked our massage to begin with. Front desk spa attendant unfortunately is also the gift shop cashier that was quite busy selling sunscreen and tourist trinkets to people. So luxury spa check-in is slow! Massage was great though, 5 stars. The therapists were very good and they kindly provided us with the full hour time despite us being 15 minutes late to the appointment. Thank goodness that ended up being great after all this. The "relaxing" pool use that comes complimentary to the spa experience however was just part of the website hype. The associated pool does not have any beautiful views. In fact it is the kiddie water play park. Don't expect to get the hot tub kid free either. Eat at the Lodge for great food and views. The mountain view patio dining is basically self serve pizza and sandwiches for the Lakeside pool folks. The scenic views are beautiful. The pools are lovely and well maintained. It's easy to rent bikes and there are plenty of things for the kids to do. BUT - It's a little too relaxed, if that makes sense. Example: Waiting 20+ minutes each morning for a cup of coffee is a bit much (they take the whole, barista as artist thing a bit too seriously), and that's only after 8:00 when the few places open. For early risers, there is nowhere to grab a cup of joe or a quick bite. So early bird folks - expect to be spending time in your rental's kitchen. The houses are nice, but varied; we rented two for a large family get-together; one was well-appointed, the other an 80s throwback missing some pretty important things like trash bags, sponges, paper towels. It's nice....but not quite special enough to warrant a return. read more
