My new favorite home good store! I had shopped at this location several years back and will admit that the service, cleanliness, and selection have improved greatly. You're going to find incredible deals on name-brand products - even less expensive than what you'd find at Wal Mart! The store is in a large shopping center and there is a good amount of parking. I love their outdoor furniture selection and have been several times over the past week to take advantage of their insane sale. I recently moved into a large home with a lot of space to furnish, and Big Lots certainly came to my aid. Each of the staff here have been wonderful as well. A big shout out to Denise for always being kind and helpful! It's a great feeling walking into a store, being greeted with a smile, and then saving some serious cash to top it off! Unbeatable prices, but customer services leaves a lot to be desired. Having worked retail before, I know how much it sucks. One thing to remember is that the majority of people working at Big Lots are just trying to get their rent paid; they aren't interested in making a career out of it, so low expectations are the best approach. So I'm really not suggesting cashiers should automatically know whether or not a certain big-ticket item is in stock, but it would be great if their apathy didn't get in the way of communication and I've seen that a lot with this store. For example, I recently went in to order some furniture. They had to put a few pieces on back order. I did not have a problem with this, and understood why they could not sell me the floor models. But when I was up at the cash register paying, the cashier had an attitude that clearly reflected she didn't want to be there. Fine by me--I am not a consumer who feels like cashiers owe me a smile when they ring me up, and because I hated working retail so much when I had to do it, I really don't expect employees to pretend like waiting on me is the best part of their day. She wasn't talkative, cool. No issue. The problem came in when I was trying to talk to her about the arrival date of my products. It was a complicated situation because one piece of furniture had arrived, but I could not collect it with my vehicle, whereas the other had to be ordered outright. I tried to explain to her, "Hey, Furniture A is here, but I can't take it. You need to order Furniture B." She kept trying to tell me she could not order Furniture A because it was already in the store, and wasn't hearing me when I told her, "Yes, I know it's in the store, but it won't fit in my car." During that same time, a co-worker asked her for help and she shrugged it off by saying she didn't know, go call someone else. Like I said, it was obvious she just didn't want to be there that day. We ended up having to call the furniture manager over to explain to her the situation, because I apparently was speaking in a foreign language. I didn't appreciate her treating me like an idiot and condescending to me, including the expression of, "Dude, are you serious right now?" when I asked whether the return policy's period began at time of purchase or at time of receipt for the products themselves. As I said, the unbeatable prices are the winner here. Don't avoid Big Lots just because their customer service leaves a lot to be desired, but be aware of what you're dealing with ahead of time! read more

Outstanding customer service! I purchased outdoor patio furniture. There was a mix up and I picked up the wrong table. When I returned to the store, they were out of stock on the table that I needed. The manager Rickey immediately got on the phone and located my table in the Oroville store. He drove to Oroville and within an hr I had my table. You don't find customer service like that anymore! In June I was in Chico looking for a bed for my daughter who is going to CSU Chico. It was a very stressful experience for us because we had to be in back in SoCal the next day. Then I meet Derek, he was so helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. He made everything thing possible for us with the help of Rick. I really appreciate the help these gentlemen gave to us because of them we went home feeling accomplish ( we now got 1 big item , a bed ) . I'd give them 0 stars if I could! My husband and I lost our home in the Camp Fire and needed to purchase a new king size box spring and bed frame, so we naturally assumed that Big lots would be the cheapest place to get them. Not the case. They were charging $340 for a king box spring and frame, that's OUTRAGEOUS! We even explained that we had lost everything in the fire, hoping that they might at least give a discount for our ordeal (as most other retailers here in Chico have been generous enough to do for victims of the fire) no such luck. Way to price gouge people in their time of need Big Lots! I won't be a returning to Big Lots. By the way Mattress Firm down the road was able to give us a MUCH better deal. read more
