Was in Chico recently and checked out the Made in Chico store for some souvenirs to bring back. This was unlike any other [Your favorite city] Store. This place was huge compared to the other stores in downtown. It was filled with locally-made items and food from the area and county. There were so many unique gifts and items here. We spent over an hour in the store browsing! My friend and I spent over 5 minutes talking to Patty in the food section listening to her talk about each vendor she personally worked with and knew. You could hear the passion in her voice when describing each item. The scones mix, she explained, took the chef over a year to perfect, the hot sauces, she knew every little detail. She was so knowledgeable and welcoming. In fact, all the employees we interacted with were so helpful. I've had Lundberg organic brown rice many times as they used to carry it at my Costco but I had no idea they made rice chips. One of the other employees said she went to high school with the Lundberg's kids! There were so many things I wanted to bring back home but couldn't. Looked at Made in Chico as a real possibility to consign numerous pieces of custom painted children's furniture. All pieces were priced to sell & Management at MIC agreed that all were appropriately priced. After 6 months and several conversions with Management nothing was sold. Why?? Essentially MIC used the furniture to display all kinds of children's books, clothing, quilts, bows & hair clips etc. In fact 1 piece was buried under so many quilts at the time I went to pick up all pieces it took staff 10 minutes to locate. While it would have been mutually beneficial to MIC & Me to have items SELL it seemed it was more important to USE the furniture to DISPLAY other seller's inventory. So DISAPPOINTED & all pieces are now available for sale on Facebook Marketplace! read more

One of the coolest little shops I've ever encountered! Made In Chico is located in a great, expansive old building (tall ceilings, wonderfully creaky wood floors) in the heart of downtown and as you may have gathered, offers merchandise that is largely "made in Chico" or a surrounding town. It offers a locals' vibe that you just can't find elsewhere. The store is consignment-style where one will find different sections pertaining to the particular seller. It's full of whimsical, local artisan items. I've purchased a number of neat gifts from this store, and have also acquired a number of fun decor items for my home. I no longer live in Chico, but shopping here has allowed for me to display a few tasteful decor pieces so guests of mine will know that this city still holds a place in my heart. Made In Chico is a must-visit spot whenever I am in town. I will be out there next month and will most definitely make this one of my first stops! read more

Everything about this shop looks like it was meticulously planned out by someone with lots of love for her store. The store has a wonderful smell right as you walk in- lavender! The greatest store in Chico! This is THE place to go if you're looking for gifts. I use to live in Chico, now I'm an hour away. I was in a pinch and drove down there to get a gift for a wedding. I called first to make sure they had it and Amy was so helpful. She put me on hold to go confirm that they had what I needed. They have the greatest items in there, all local! Every time we visit friends in Chico we stop in "Made in Chico" and usually walk out with a few awesome gifts. This time, as Christmas is approaching, we were able to do much of our shopping. I especially had fun working with Kylie to put a gift box together for my Aunt and Uncle in the midwest. I think it took 15 minutes total - walking around and tossing items in my basket and then selecting the top 10 from there, gave her the address and off it went! Cute fun items that they will be able to tell were selected to their taste (for example a spicy meat rub as they like to BBQ). Great store and you will always find the perfect gift here! read more

Where else could I find a light switch plate decorated with a local Chico map and an artistically painted bird? It made a great gift for a family member. It is a nice store with nice people working in it. I was greeted and offered help and then left to look on my own. It was perfect. I hate when I get pushy salespeople. I also love the idea of being able to support local artisans and Made in Chico carries a great mix of products. Over the years I have seen beautiful pieces and products for the kitchen, for babies, for the home, for Christmas, for drinking and eating. Jewelery seems to be the one part of their business that has remained a constant and the pieces they carry just get better and better. The prices are more than fair. The owners are very nice people and not at all pretentious. You would never know how the store came to be but do ask them. Here is a little local trivia of the day: They created a couple of products that was hand sewn in quantity here (Get it? Made in Chico?) and sold in huge numbers at Nordstroms.
