The employee appeared to be doing their best, but instead of offering support or guidance, the manager chose to belittle them loudly and publicly. It created a tense, unpleasant atmosphere that made me -- and others around me -- want to leave. No one deserves to be humiliated like that, especially not in front of customers. Not only does this kind of behavior reflect poorly on management, but it also ruins the customer experience. If this is how staff are treated regularly, it raises serious concerns about the workplace culture at this establishment. Until there's clear accountability and a change in how employees are treated, I won't be returning -- and I wouldn't recommend others do, either.

Additionally, the doors of the unit were all out of alignment and one hinge was defective. We requested a return authorization from the retailer, they contacted Hooker and were told that the item was "within specifications." That's a lie. "Marbleized white" is NOT the same as "white." And although the cabinet doors were all exactly the same size, the middle section (one of three) was NOT the same width as the other two. And we paid how much for this? Way, WAY too much. In the end, instead of taking it back, the retailer credited the account $400, about 10% of the retail price. I've spent hours trying to correct the doors but it's still not right, since it is defective. What junk.

You are sent a app that requires you to fill out a series of questionnaires to finally narrow down what the problem is. You must take pictures, lift the heavy chair for a model number, very frustrating. Takes them weeks to get back to you and when a technician finally comes he looks at it for a nano second and says "the motor is shot" and it will take 10-12 weeks for a new one. The furniture store took the chair back and I will never purchase another piece of furniture from Hooker.

The owner is very nice and the store has a good selection. In addition to new books, there are also used books. I've been to one book signing there (Beth Macy's book Truevine) and it was done very well. They had a caterer in the space next door (although that space is now occupied by a boutique so I don't know what they'll do in the future). There is parking right next to the store and across the street in the large public lot at the corner of Board and Church.

I saw some bedding I liked but because I was rushed for time and the one and only check out line was long, I decided to return after work. I got there at 5:40. An employee met me at the door (the outside door mind you) and told me they were closing in 20 minutes. I told her I knew that...and she just stood there, blocking the entrance. So I moved to go in and she repeated they were closing in 20 minutes. I said ok and once again I attempted a step inside the entrance. She shot me a look and turned on her heel with an exasperated sigh and let go of the door. I had to grab it from hitting me. I went to bedding, got the comforter and was out in 10 minutes. Tomorrow I'm returning it. I'll look in Macy's this weekend in Roanoke. If Belks employees can be that rude and not value their customers, I'll spend my money elsewhere.

This location used to be a mall (before my time here) and they recently tore down the mall and switched to a sort of strip mall design so that all the store entrances are off of the parking lot. They repaved the parking lot so it's in good shape.
