Rural King in Martinsville has been my favorite store since the day it opened. Wonderful selection of animal products for great prices, not to mention all the automotive and lawn products. I recently had a problem with something I ordered online and Scott, the manager, and Betty, in customer service went above and beyond to make things right. Many people say that stores don't care whether they have your business or not, but this certainly has not been my experience with Scott and Betty at Rural King. Good job y'all! read more

This was my first time purchasing from the gun barn and I will not patron this place again for anything even though I used to love shopping here. It was a very tedious process with steps that I feel were unnecessary. They didn't make you feel like a priority as a customer. I realized that they also lied because my receipt said that I declined the warranty. They didn't say anything about the warranty at the time of purchase. I only put it on layaway because it was the only one in the store so that I could pick it up the next day. I won't display other pics due to the type of item purchased. read more

Just an all around great place to snag many household items and gifts. Did a huge amount of Christmas shopping here and was able to get several people checked off the list. We were even able to get gifts for an entire office staff. They have free pig ears at entrance for our fur babies and it's always fun to see all the pups shopping. I have been to this store a number of times looking for items that were shown to be in stock on their website only to find out that the information is not updated. I specifically looked for animal fencing and when I went to pick it up (in the rain) the associates looked for 25 minutes as I got soaked with receipt in hand. No fence anwd i had to take my soppy receipt back into the store for a refund. The customer service rep told me that the website is notoriously unreliable which confirmed my experience. I got my refund and drove down the street to Tractor Supply who had the exact same product for exactly the same price. A gentleman loaded it in my truck with a forklift (something not in the yard at Rural King) and I was off to the races. I will be leaving a 5 star for Tractor Supply! This store should have been named China King. Name brand products are no deal. The prices marked are usually incorrect and the employees don't know how to fix the problem. It must be terrible place to work. Every employee says they just started or don't know what to do. The manager staff is pathetic. As a Customer Service trainer for a large corporation., I have never seen such unprofessional behavior in a store like this. The cashier was so uninterested in her Customer, she stayed on the phone and was uncaring. The propane outside the store says clearly 19.99. When they ring it up it comes up as 21.99. This is the 3rd time. I let it go,but then the associate that was getting the propane out was uncaring and rude as well. I went to another store nearby and called to speak to a manager and was hung up on. So i decided to go back and retreive my 2 dollars I was overcharged. I was treated poorly, this little red headed man threatened to take my husband outside,I guess they wanted to fight. Never did get my 2 dollars. They threatened to call the police over a 2 dollar error on their part. I have never witnessed such chaos in a customer service oriented business. ​​It's truly shameful that a business like Rural King treats there customers this way. I purchased seed for my new lawn for my new home getting finished in a couple months. My purchase was over 30 days ago but im not using it so i just bought the seed at a good price and stores it away. Recently i was speaking to my brother in law about it and he told me the seed i purchased was annual and will only grow one season! Honest mistake on my part - i called the store and spoke with manager and they said sorry they cant help me. They could easily exchange for good seed of equal value and resell this or at least issue me store credit toward other purchases. I recently purchased 2300$ in red brand sheep and goat fence from them. I need more posts and fence supplies but I will be taking my future business elsewhere. Too bad they cant help - where has customer service gone !!?!!!??? Too many managers with a " NO " mentality. I could tell in her voice ahe could have helped me but just didnt want to. Shame on you. I think that a lot of people wanted to hate this place but, as my neighbor put it, the parking lot is like 4 PM on Christmas Eve every day. This location used to be the old Kmart and being right next to the Food Lion makes it even that much more convenient. Rural King is like a cross between Tractor Supply and Wal-mart. They have $8 jeans right when you walk in the door. The pet section (stuff for dogs & cats mostly) is huge. I went today for the biggest dog crate I could find and came away with a 48-inch crate for $60. I'm very happy. They also have a big selection of chicken supplies, including several really nice coops and live chicks (they did have live chicks but they sold out when they opened and I didn't check if they have more - it is getting a little late in the year for that). We are wondering if this place will always just be packed with people. I've only seen a fraction of the store, waiting for things to calm down from their opening a few weeks ago. They sell popcorn at the front door so people snack and shop and it's a lot like being at the state fair (I'm from Texas originally so you may have to take my word for that). There are lots of cashiers and lots of employees. So far, so good. read more

Your sales person Karla at the Martinsville rural king is the best. She helped me find the right chain for my saw when no one else could . She as also been very helpful with my chicken stuff and livestock. She obviously know a lot and it shows. You need more people like that in the store. read more

In general, this store always has a damn problem for some reason every time I walk in there. Either the staff doesn't show up (?) or the barcodes don't work or the systems just randomly shut down. Today, there was one (1) singular register open. At 11am. On a work day. And I don't know if the wide load behind the register couldn't get her fat fingers to press the buttons individually or if the fried chicken grease glistening off her pig-knuckles had something to do with it, but the system shut down. Randomly and without explanation. So the exceedingly long line of people are kind of just standing there waiting for somebody, anybody to make an executive decision about opening up another register because for this cashier it's very apparent that unless she's opening her mouth or her legs, she's pretty much useless. Finally after standing for 20 minutes in a line that wasn't going anywhere, I just dropped my things and left. Will not be back and I'm telling every single person what a train wreck this store is. read more

The staff is very friendly and hard working. Kind of reminds me of a locally owned mom and pops store- and they have tons of stuff at great prices. Kind of a throwback as well as they offer popcorn and coffee as you enter the store. Love this place! read more
