Best steak in Alabama! If you are ever in the area, Big Mike's is definitely worth a stop. The atmosphere inside was very warm and welcoming. On this visit, I tried the world famous ribeye. It was perfectly cooked and so juicy. They use the most perfect butter on top, which flavors the steak to perfection. The side of baked potato was also the perfect combination with heaping amounts of butter and bacon. Overall, I had a great experience at Big Mike's. Staff does a wonderful job and are always ready for you no matter what you bring. They get quite a bit of travelers for work and they please most anyone brought in. Great atmosphere, especially if you're into pricey ambiance. I do not recommend this restaurant and certainly won't be returning. The steaks were overcooked and the baked potatoes were at room temperature. The boring salads consisted of iceberg lettuce and cherry tomatoes. Ho hum. Its always wonderful to find a place that actually knows how to cook a steak and has Fried Mushrooms too! Last August my wife and family celebrated my 65th Birthday at Big Mike's. We returned from San Diego and one of our stops is of course Big Mike's where we enjoyed a perfect Rib Eye, Baked Potato and Salad. Folks in our party had the Blacken Grouper, a Oysters Rockefeller. The servers and workers were great, very friendly and helpful. The restaurant ambiance was pleasant, cold but was manageable. Now... the reason for the single star. For the price they charge I was expecting it to be much higher quality, flavor and attention to detail. My food came out cold. Now lukewarm warm, cold. I sent it back to get hot food. The food was VERY over salted when it came from the kitchen while sitting in a pool of oil. The table next to me had an ice cream scoop of butter on their steak that never even melted either. Indicating it was pretty cold too. The pride for price does not justify the overall culinary experience. I would not recommend spending the high price for low poor quality. First things first, the bathroom (because I have worked in restaurants and the cleanliness of the bathroom is a direct reflection of the cleanliness of the kitchen): Grade B- see photos. I grabbed the menu. Steaks are 40 dollars plus. I got a booth. The waitress, Tina, wins the promptness award. She brought Bavarian bread with cinnamon butter immediately. A+ on this bread. Very salty Italian dressing in plastic solo servings with lids. It's a practical approach to salads on a mass production scale and this place gets busy because it's the go to restaurant in Andalusia. The table is covered with brown paper which I actually like. If anything it shows me how sloppy of an eater I am. That's on me. See photo. The Ribeye medium rare arrived within 7 minutes of me ordering. It's medium rare as ordered. It's heavily over-salted. If not for that it would be perfect. Not sure what all the salt is about on the steak. The baked potato is perfect. Tina was over the moment I finished the steak about desserts. I said no thanks me she had my check back in 60 seconds. Drinks came quickly. My steak was a weird texture. I think over tenderized so much so that it wasn't juicy but almost mealy. The waitress said two sides but did not say that there was an up charge on each item. She also didn't ask if we wanted dessert before bringing our check. I have no problem spending money on a good meal but when it's not ....I have a problem. A ribeye with mushy broccoli and a raw sweet potato plus an iced tea being over $60.00 . We went there tonight for our 42nd anniversary we got there early so we parked I. Their parking lot and walked around for a bit, they open at 4 pm. The place is really nice very clean and the people are friendly, we ordered their baseball steak, cooked perfectly, the tap water wasn't very good so we a bottle of mineral water much better. Best steak in Alabama, if not the country. Located in downtown Andalusia Alabama this steakhouse is special. The ambiance is great because it's located in an old sewing factory. I recommend you order the Three Notch strip. The wait may be a little while but on weekends sit on the porch order from the bar and listen to music performed by local artist. The hour and a half drive to Big Mike's is always worth it! Their steaks are the best, and the seafood bisque is loaded with yummy crab!! Big Mikes such as awesome place, a remodeled ware house just a block from the center of town. The street is lined with lights that beckons all to come and enjoy some wonderful steaks. Usually there's a line which is a good sign. If you don't want to wait. ask the wait staff about dining in the bar area. The bistro tables are perfect for two. Crab cakes stacked high are my fav and a lemon drop martini... perfect. Fine in or on the patio. Live music sets the tone for a relaxing enjoyable time with friends and family. Was very disappointed this trip. Prices of course have gone up and I don't have an issue with that but the portion sizes have gone down. We were one of the first parties in last night and our booth was dirty. (Pictures attached) our orders were not all right. I ordered a filet medium well not butterflied, my best friend ordered the same but medium well and she wants hers butterflied (she doesn't like red) our steaks came out reversed. My buddy, who is a my steak expert, wanted us to make the 2 hour drive from Dothan to Andalusia to try Big Mike's. After I looked at the menu, all I could think about all day was the trip. But geez, didn't I have to wait for it! We left an hour later, had an hour wait, was seated in the corner of the bar area, and our waitress took her time to come greet us. She said they were busier than usual. I couldn't figure out if she had too many tables or since we were in the corner, it was harder for her to make a better effort to serve us. But even though the service was either too busy or a little lacking, the food made up for it. I started with the fried pickles and the sweet tea. Sweet tea was refreshingly sweet, just the way I like it. The fried pickles came out hit and fresh. The fried pickles was very impressive despite there was not as much as I had hoped for $7. They had a sweet taste that blended with the sour. Also, the in-house made ranch dressing was perfect to complement the pickles. The house salad came next with the rolls. Out of my meal, this was the low point. The salad came with lettuce, cheese, tomato, and croutons with in-house made ranch. The dressing was the best part. The rolls were your normal rolls you could buy from the grocery store, but the butter that came with them was outstanding. My main entree was the 16 oz. rib-eye with twice baked potato casserole. The steak, according to the menu, is aged. But it seemed to be dipped in some kind of marinade. The waitress confirmed that piece of info for me. This was possibly the best steak I have had in Alabama so far. The twice baked potato casserole had a rich, cheesy, creamy flavor to it. I am glad I ordered it over fries (not hand-cut) or just a baked potato. The lows for Big Mike's were the service needs a little tinkering to and the ketchup on the table was ruined. It had probably be refrigerated at one point and then left out on the table. But the highs so outweighs the lows. Big Mike's was worth a 2 hour drive for a steak. read more

OUR FOOD WAS FANTASTIC! The three stars are for service and wait time. We had a large party of 11 (I hate large party dining, so we were VERY understanding), we knew there would be a wait, so we were there before opening (4:00), and happily stood in line until the doors opened. Once to the desk, we were told 45 min. Ok, no worries, we understand. 1 3/4 hours later we were placed at a very tight table and placed our drinks and half of our apps. We were then moved to a different table. No problem! We were happy to move, easy going bunch. They were slammed, and it was Fathers Day weekend. Food was fantastic service was ok, several trips back and forth to the table to get things straightened out. We had steaks and really enjoyed the food. However, after 4 hours in, we were really ready to go. That is a bit too much to ask patrons to endure. No steak is that good. SUGGESTION: please allow large tables to reserve the bigger tables. If someone calls bringing a large party, it is better for business to tell people no than to have them wait. Had we known it would take 4 hours, we would have made other arrangements. Our bill for 4 was $198 and our applied tip was $35. Our waitress made at least $100 off of our table, just in tips. Not really worth that price tag. read more

Big Mike's is amazing. Living along the Alabama Coast, the Orange Beach location is one of my favorites places to eat. Staying in a state park near Andalusia, I knew I wanted to try Big Mike's in this location. While expecting it to be good, I wasn't anticipating it to be of the same level as the OB location. We dined here this evening and were there at 4 when they opened. The food and service was amazing. Zach and his entire team took great care of our party of 4. We started out with fried mushrooms, Bulldog shrimp, Loaded cheese fries and fried onion bites. All were delicious! We had ribeyes and the big Mike, Filet and all were cooked perfectly and tasted great! Loaded baked potatoes were delicious. The house salad and asparagus were not that great.
