I've never had a bad fillet or experience at any of the "Mike's" family restaurants from Livingston to T'ville to the beach!

After hearing rave reviews about Big Mike's Steakhouse in Thomasville, Alabama, we decided to see what all the fuss was about. I was expecting a cozy, upscale steakhouse--white tablecloths, maybe a candle or two. Instead, we walked into what felt like a loud cousin of Buffalo Wild Wings... wearing a cowboy hat. The "ambiance" included paper table coverings (fancy!), Family Feud blaring from a kitchen that apparently doubles as a DJ booth, and music loud enough to make you reconsider your life choices. I swear I left with a steak and partial hearing loss. The food? Solid. I'd give it a 4. The steak was good, though I'm not sure if I enjoyed it or if my taste buds just surrendered to the chaos. The service was fine--friendly, but clearly used to the background noise. Atmosphere? A generous 2. It's the place to go if you want a decent steak and a sensory overload. But if you're looking for a quiet date night, maybe bring noise-canceling headphones... and a tablecloth of your own. read more

Go early or late to Big Mike's because otherwise it is packed! The servers are polite and efficient, bringing you fresh baked bread and honey butter when they take your drink order. Best steak I've ever had was at a Longhorn restaurant in Texas. All other steaks are measured against that one. Big Mikes steaks are very close to that legendary steak. I typically get the Big Mike (24oz) and every time it is perfectly cooked. Sides are good. Appetizers are always good. Service is top notch. Typically pretty loud place. If you've got the right expectations for Big Mikes, they won't disappoint you. Great for any size group. It gets busy so be prepared to wait a bit for a table. I'm going to say that Big Mikes is the best place to eat in Clarke County. read more

Steaks are not very good, they are very thin. I travel all over the country for work and I was in town. I decided to give this place a try. It was very busy, and Maby I just got a fluke but my meal was not very good. But it's the only option in town for steak so what can you do. read more

Consistently fantastic steaks. That's what you'll get from Big Mike's. I'm a filet guy, and every single time I've been here, my steak has always been cooked exactly like I want it, a perfect medium-rare. The upgrade to the twice baked potato casserole as a side is a must. It is delicious. The only downside for this location is it's rather small capacity, so expect a wait. I have heard about this restaurant and the different locations they have. Well this one it was terrible and I really was looking forward to it. We arrived around 8:15 so understandable they are fixing to close. I heard the word f**k about 50 times and B**ch another 50 times. And then a guy comes out of the kitchen yelling at another staff about getting his B**ch *ss back there and F**king go to work! It was like being at a high school party constant yelling coming from the kitchen! And the waitress showed up every once in while! And we ordered light! Chicken and shrimp! And the food, just ok! The fried pickles were good and the bread! The staff and if there was a manger didn't give two shits we were sitting there listening to this crap! So disappointed! read more

This was my first time @ Big Mikes. Now I have been to Thomasville several time and never tried it before. This time I try it and we get a carry out. Well it was a FAIL. First of all they put all three meals in one bag. Second the didn't give us eating utensils. Third we have no condiments. The shrimp was good and the bake potatoe was good the salad was ok. We probably should have dined in but that shouldn't matter. They know people can't eat with their hands and feet. The service was excellent, and our steak was so good we went the next day and ate there again. I really want to say that the Manager went out of his way to accommodate us, after someone complained that I had my service dog with me. We noticed we were being watched, but never thought someone would complain to call/write to the health department on it. My service dog never made a sound, bothered anyone, just did what he is suppose to do, stay with his owner and do his job. However, the manager did come over and let me know, and was so kind, even said he never knew he was there, as he is so calm, and well behaved. He apologized for having to come over and asked if he could take a picture of him, in case the health department stopped by. It did upset me, and I had to go outside as my service dog could sense I was having anxiety. After taking a break, and talking to Manager and thanking him for his kindness, he had our waitress bring us a complimentary cake for our troubles. Bottom line, is this place is awesome, and everyone is welcome. The Manager was very understanding, polite, and went out of his was to address the situation. It's not fair, that he had to deal with this, as a service dog is allowed to go anywhere his owner goes. As a veteran I have been through enough and should not have to defend myself. However, having a psychiatric service dog he is trained to never leave my side, and he did just that. He is my whole life and to me family. I do not know where I would be without him. So to the person who complained. I am sorry if we offended you, but please understand, some of us need that support for comfort and our disabilities. Just know, that there is a reason we have him, and you having the manager come to us, put me in a bad situation that caused me to have a panic attack. Thanks for reading and I will be back at Big Mikes to eat again with my service dog. Thanks to the management and staff for everything. You handled this extremely well. Fantastic family owned restaurant. When first opened, wanted to hire teenagers and young adults in order to get them ready for the work force. Now those teens and adults have grown into fine young adults. Some still work at Big Mike's and do a fantastic job. Request Hannah as a waitress and she will be fantastic! read more

The original- the best! I've tried them all; you can't beat Mike on that grill! And the shrimp appetizer is a crowd pleaser before the main dish. I LOVE the sweet water stack and I love he kept the name and the dish on the menu at the other locations. But the steak has to make it to the table too! Everything is BIG at Big Mike's!! First time eating here while on business in Thomasville. Foregoing lunch, I was hungry; yet not sure for what. Big Mike's did not disappoint. The Steak Burger was the best I've had in a while...topped with American Cheese and Sautéed Bella Mushrooms..Oh My! The Burger was huge! The Baked Potato was huge! I ate more than I should but it was so good! I was able to save a few bites of the burger and the fresh pumpernickel bread with sweetened butter for later. With my add ons, my meal was a tad pricey ($16.50), but I can't complain. The service was good- my waitress was very attentive. The food was delicious, served hot and was well prepared. This place has drastically fallen downhill in my opinion. It's as if there is no more quality control coming out of the kitchen any longer. The last two visits have been for takeout and disappointed is an understatement. The first time I figured it was just a fluke, the second time is a pattern. Order hasn't been correct, brown lettuce on salads, missing items and most importantly soured meat on hamburger. The steaks were also less than spectacular. Walking in to Mikes is not a moment closest to your maker it is very simple and underwhelming to be frank. The tables are covered with brown butcher paper and the walls adorned with your typical Chachki that is commonly used in restaurants today. My waitress was friendly and attentive. I ordered the fried pickles, a cup of shrimp & crab bisque (the soup of the day) and the rib eye medium rare. The soup and appetizer came out first. The soup was just a touch salty but the flavor of the shrimp and crab came through well. The fried pickles came out piping hot so I let them cool I enjoyed the soup. By the end of the cup I was wanting more. The pickles are lightly breaded and fried with a dipping sauce. There are sweet and dill pickles in the serving and they just explode with flavor in your mouth. There is a good touch of spicy heat in these pickles that makes them that much more interesting. I got a salad with my order, with ranch dress. The dressing is made in house and was decent. Out came the main course. It was present with out pomp or circumstance, but it was hot and just asking to be eaten. And eat it I did. Cooked well with wood, and seasoned to enhance its flavor, this steak takes you on a culinary tour of joy and bestows a treat upon your taste buds. The aging of the meat shines through in its flavor and tenderness. This was one of the most tender rib eyes I have ever had, one can only wonder how the filet would melt in your mouth. Well worth the time it took to go to Mikes. It is a steakhouse, and the meal cost was most likely on the lower side of an average steak house meal. My 11 year old daughter decides to take me to Big Mikes Steakhouse for my birthday on yesterday and the service we received was a waste of our time. First off the server was so rude she didn't want to serve us an African American (blacks) she looked at us a we disgusted her. She didn't asked us did we want or need anything during the time we was there, did t even bring us refills and I feel very disappointed in the services that we received because my 11 year old noticed the wau the adult server was treating us! I placed an order for a steak well done but as soon and as soon a I start to cut into it it was medium and very meduim; so at least 15-20 minutes goes by the server still didn't show up, so now im getting impatience because I really wanted this steak so when she finally shows up i've lost my appetite. Although the days open/closed are saddening, I did manage to snag a seat when they were open. I ordered the ribeye. It was cooked perfect . Really great food and service. I have heard great things about the regular steaks, but I always get the tuna steak and am never disappointed. The twice baked potato casserole is by far the best side dish. The appetizers are always great along with the bread they bring out. The wait staff is very professional and about their business in the best way. The pace of the restaurant is usually very busy, so they are taking care of many tables at once and do a great job. If it is a little slower you get a good bit of southern charm from them. The prices are regulars steakhouse prices so it will be expensive, especially if you get add-ons. Do not expect a cheap dinner, however, you get what you pay for. Many people seem to order togo and expect it to be the same quality as in house but it will not be. If you want the full Big Mike's experience definitely dine in. They do their best with togo orders, but fresh food is not meant to set for long. The only reason I have given Big Mikes 4 out of 5 stars is because it is crowded and can be loud. In some areas the tables are close together, and the wait can be long. But to some people the atmosphere is why they go. I just like a more quiet setting. If you go through Thomasville frequently and haven't been I still recommend it! read more

I underestimated what to expect. Great food and service. My filet was grilled to perfection and tender enough to cut with a fork. The asparagus had nice grill flavor and was the correct firmness. Always make it a priority to go by big mikes every time I am in town. Very consistent and can easily pass as one of the best steaks in Alabama. First off they have fantastic appitizers such as the tiger shrimp and fried cheese. The shrimp is similar to the bang bang shrimp at bonefish which is always wonderful. The fried cheese passes my test as being homemade and not those horrible frozen ones. I order the filet with the bienville topping that includes crab meat and a garlic sauce.
