Just a return visit review. I was about to leave town when I decided that I needed a good mocha latte on my drive back to Birmingham. Things seemed to have gotten busier, which usually means they are better. I love coming into this place, a real coffee shop feel. My medium mocha with almond milk was great! The cozy sweatshirts and decor makes this place even more inviting.- I will make this a routine stop when I come to town. read more

Wow! Great food stopped on whim when traveling through from the beach. We got paninis and they were really good. Didn't get coffee but they sounded fantastic. The place is adorable and relaxing. Wonderful lunch. Atmosphere is laid back, staff are nice. Food is great! I had the Yellowhammer panini and split a club salad with my husband. The portion size on this salad is great for the price. Salad greens and toppings were fresh and I got enough dressing for the whole salad! Loved the sweet teas! read more

Very refreshing coffee house that I'm told has a New Orlean layout. It is two stories with different rooms and seating areas outdoor and indoors. They have hot foods as well as baked goods. The coffee is superb and the best in town! Highly recommended!!! read more

Charming shop in downtown Thomasville with nice decor. I know they were just opening, but the staff lacked the usual hospitality, personality at an independent coffee shop. Coffee was good, but not amazing and although I was casually asked if i wanted anything else, nothing was offered or any specials. The fellow that took my order lacked the usual personality , care and hospitality that is common in the south. read more

This place is just ok. I've been multiple times but only because there aren't many options in Thomasville. They have very little in the way of vegetarian options (grilled cheese is good, salad is basic and bland), and often times they are out of the drink flavors I like. The building itself is nice, and the staff are not rude, but the food is of an inconsistent quality and a little overpriced for what it actually is. I will likely go there again, but if there were a Starbucks in town I'd never look back. read more

The coffee and the building are definitely the highlights of Southern Grounds. I love getting an iced coffee here. They have my favorite coffees around. They have a ton of flavors and combinations. It is always a treat when I stop by and get a panini to go with my coffee. Eating in Southern Grounds is very cool. The Champion House has been a well known building in Thomasville, so seeing it turned into a cute coffee shop is nice. The decorations inside are nice and give a cozy and quaint feel to the coffee shop. There are many rooms to sit in which is my favorite part. Upstairs you can sit and eat in the "game room" area. There is an air hockey table and guitar for you to play. There are coloring books and cozy chairs upstairs. There are also little kick-knacks sold around the coffee shop. Downstairs there are 3 rooms with tables you can eat at if you want a more standard coffee shop experience. All in all, the atmosphere and food makes Southern Grounds stand out from any other coffee shop I have been to. read more

This place has a lot of potential. The location is nice and the building itself is charming. It has a small town feel but it really wasn't. My husband grew up around here; he's originally from Grove Hill. We went in and ordered our usual drink that we usually get at Starbucks which we were super excited they had! Unfornitely, the drinks didnt taste remotely like the drinks we've had. I've had macchiatos in any coffee shops, small town to the big chain Starbucks and this definitely didnt taste like any macchiato I know. Same sentiment from the hubby with his white chocolate mocha. The barista and counter girl wasn't at all friendly. It being a small town and all you would think they would know the locals from the folks passing through or in our case visiting. I personally didn't get that southern hospitality I grew up on back in Georgia. read more

I had a great experience with Southern Grounds ordering a large to-go lunch for a work event today. The shop was easy to reach, took my large lunch order, suggested drinks, accommodated parfaits for our entire group, and allowed me to go ahead and pay over the phone as well. The lunches were ready on time, boxed up well, and labeled. Everyone enjoyed their paninis and salads! I even called the shop back for a receipt and they texted it to me right away. Irma chased us out of Florida and we landed in Thomasville, AL. As bad as the evacuation and hurricane was we did find a silver lining to that cloud, namely the Southern Grounds Coffee Shop. The food was great, staff friendly, and the shop has a great old fashioned vibe. We had a great lunch and since it was so good went back for breakfast. Great fresh-roasted coffee with homemade awesome cakes. We also had one of their panini grilled sourdough sandwiches that were as good as the coffee. A must visit place if you're traveling up Hwy 43. Down in 'Bama for the week and saw this lill shop on my way through Thomasville. Stopped by for a morning pick me up. Had and iced macchiato and the espresso was very good in it. Not a hard bitter after taste like some coffee shops. Very friendly and polite. Definitely a good spot to stop for a cup and a breakfast sandwich. read more
