I landed in north county SLO in 2006 from downunder, straight outta the aussie bush with my L.A…read more born life. I was smellin' 'o' gum leaves and real rural .... beyond the black stump.... outback ! Around 2008 I had nailed a job and was livin' sweet in Jesse Jesse Jame's hideout... yeah mates , my new chosen country was guid to me. Then I found out that all the cars here get SMOG checked, after using the 'bush telegraph' I got recommended to the service's of Templeton Smog & Service. I was havin' a nosey magpie at this bloke who was repairing a coupla dozers and his son a WW2 chevvy truck... ancient... and he was getting parts for these projects... I mean really hard to get stuff.... from Templeton Smog & Service.... my immediate thought was... anyone who can rat these parts is hooked up.... he also said if you have any problems go see them, Anthony is very cluey in matters mechanical.... it turns out he was spot on. For seven years my wife ran the grade as a nurse to SLO.... Templeton Smog & Service kept my wife safe and the car in top running order. Here's something you get in the service.... old school....the auto went "ratty"...... 3 grand or more..... ????? ... was not feeling the best... so I took the car in for the boys to check it out....Anthony solved it for me for $234 out the door... seems out in the paddocks 'o' paso, the ground squirrels crawl up for the warmth as the car cools down... or the shelter... well they had made a meal of a wiring loom that fed the auto and the chip....whaddya reckon ? .... you can see why they get all of my business....there would be more than a dozen more instances of much merit & savings to me, very hard to find in this fickle world. I was a part time checkstand clerk at the time and my wife had retired....both of us senior citizens, fixed income. Over the years I have had nothing but straight up service... and absolute truthfullness in all dealings, diagnoses and remedies from this enterprise. Yesterday I just picked up my F150.... fully diagnosed repaired and out the door for $112... got the radiator pressure tested.... they found that pesky pinhole leak..repaired it..... found the problem of why the heater wasn't happening in the cabin.... sorted the air con elec... rehooked in bottom anchor on air filter... pumped the tires....as quoted... "heater works, just like in the aussie bush !!!!".... wife is very very happy... hahahahahahaha happy wife happy life for all you young punters & tax dodgers. My background is I used to run a side-bizz downunna called "bolt uprite & the relaxed mechanics"...... we rebuilt big hemi 6's and all the v8's.... torqueflite auto's and my engineer could throw a 9" Ford OR Detroit Locker into anything..... built the engines for LPG... one third the price... 106 octane... 4 barrel Edelbrock manifold....texas block huggin' headers.... truck Impco simplex 7 litre 2 stage convertor.... dual fuel/ dual spark..... dialed in for flat runnin' for the 2,000 mile hop 'cross the desert....punchin' a dollar/ dollar twenty all the way.... aluminium bull bar.... best day I had was 5:30am start.... 1,250 miles... was eating a vegemite sandwich and nailin a cup 'o' joe at 7:30pm.... that's an average of 89.28mph.... cool hey... flat runnin'.... wide view... was a '78 ZG Fairlane with a cleveland rebuilt 302v8... standard everything Impco gas gear and 120lt. LPG in the trunk.... Enough of me and me aussie bush yarns.... straight up five STARS....they have my RESPECT and thankfullness to have such a wonderfull service in our north county SLO. If you wanna get something done, ask someone who's busy.... you only have to look at the amount of vehicles they repair everyday, yeah mates big aussie... hell yeah to all the blokes & folks with Templeton Smog & Service.

I am normally a DIY mechanic and would do something like this myself but time was a crunch before a big vacation weekend so I had this shop do it. Was referred by another shop in town- and they did the work quickly and gave me a small break on the price since they got it done faster which I appreciated.

If you have ever wanted to meet an honest mechanic, I know they are rare, you need to meet Corey…read moreand his amazing wife Julie. I can't believe that I've lived in Paso/Atascadero since 2012 and it took our family this long to find them. Both Julie and Corey (not sure on spelling) are sincere, reasonably priced and just easy going people. A local tire shop was changing my oil recently and said that I needed to replace my valve cover gasket because it was leaking AND they also said we needed to replace the drive belt. I thanked them for their notification and asked them to please just change the oil. I then contacted Julie at SMELTZER and she was able to schedule me in to see her hubby for a second opinion. My husband and I took our car to have Corey look at it. He looked at the engine and found nothing wrong with it. I was shocked by two things, shocked by his honesty when most other mechanics would tell you what best benefits their pocket books- but I was more shocked that a local tire shop in Paso Robles that we have trusted for many many years would try to take advantage of their customers like that. They have lost a customer and SMELTZER has earned a customer for life. Thank you for being a good human and not seeing people as dollar signs Mr & Mrs Smeltzer. I am also a local small business owner and I believe in earning my $$ honestly and with integrity. It's good to know that integrity still exists in this small town, thank you!
