I am not surprised by the low-star review. Purchased a long-sleeved shirt for my significant other. The prices were not clearly marked and surprised with the $42 price tag. We had to leave to make an appointment however returned a bit later to find them closed. Made the trip back to Sea Center the next morning to return the shirt. We hadn't even taken out of the bag and had the receipt. Lisa informed us that do not take returns. Lisa did at least try to contact the owner but Sea Center did not get back us. Will not be using them for service again. I brought the boat in for minor repair to judge their quality of service and their attentiveness to detail. Asked for service on trailer, and for broken brackets to be replaced,and Rigging tube clamp to be replaced. For the Bracket that was replaced, rather than replace the rusted hardware they chose to save a few bucks and re-use rusted existing bolts. The bracket is thinner than what is used in all other locations in the boat which I don't expect to last long. The other broken bracket was not replaced. The rigging tube clamp was replaced, but was told that the harness was too short and would need to be replaced in the future. I brought it in to be fixed, not to have something that will break in the future. No phone call to see if I wanted it fixed so that the boat engine may be raised and locked in place while trailering. I was told just don't raise the motor the whole way since I don't trailer it that far. This is not how you fix things properly, instead this is how you patch something so it's workable in the short term. Coming up on a holiday weekend it was great to have the boat back, but now that I have to have it properly fixed, the wasted time while it was being "fixed" now will have to come at another time likely costing more time on the water. I would rather have it fixed Correctly the first time as to not miss out on future time on the water. Rather than argue the fact, and that none of the electrical on the boat was fixed I decided to pay and be done with this low caliber of service. I had been told to avoid this establishment, but wanted to keep it local. $550 dollars later ($140 per hour labor and a $3 bracket that they had left the sticker on) lesson learned. I wish they were better, maybe they will learn from their mistake, but I am extremely disappointed from the results I got from Big Pine Sea Center. I'm not giving 1 star as the staff and everyone there was polite and nice, I would like to see them succeed. read more

The big Pine sea center is no longer in business. As of June 11, 2022 a new owner took possession of the business. A lot of changes will be made, extended hours seven days a week. Worse service marina!! They don't launch your boat on the weekends, "occasionally" open on Saturday's, don't place your boat on a trailer when requested, can't use their work racks even if you're going to clean your own boat, have to call them a gazzilion times before you get anyone on the phone, if you ask to speak to the owner, he refuses to get on the phone, and the list can go on and on.... just TERRIBLE!! read more

AVOID AVOID AVOID. It's been a nightmare trying to have them fix their overpriced and botched trolling motor installation. I'm $6k in for a trolling motor that still doesn't work after 3+ months of being jerked around - they put a huge gash on my bow, drilled two unnecessary holes on my deck and just left screws in without telling me (note this is a fly fishing boat that needs to be flush), installed a dead battery, added a parasitic drain to my boat, and have been blowing me off for months. Kayla/Katelynn (unsure of actual name) handled all communication and left me hanging many times. They were going to take a look last week, but decided to close the shop. Kayla said they'd call Monday or Tuesday this week, but I heard nothing and when I called - no answer and voicemail box is full. I then stopped up there (end of my street) and there's a full parking lot, dog sitting by window, etc. I can't believe I need to hire a lawyer for something that should've been fairly easy for them to resolve, but luckily I've got the time and resources to hold them accountable so now that's my only option. Stay away from this shop unless you plan to junk your boat and waste lots of money. read more

Crooks!!!! Told my buddy "yea I'll help you put that hose on, no problem" had him sign a $25 deposit. Just left picking the boat up two hours later "that's gonna be $325". For a 6 inch plastic hose. I went and picked the part up so it was all labor. read more

UPDATE: Murray Marine was able to look at clete, inside plate was installed UPSIDE DOWN, that is why it bent and pulled up as soon as the boat lifted out of the water! The worst customer service I have encountered in a long time. Boat taken to them to install lift cletes. Not only were the flush mount design type we asked for not installed, they pulled out of the frame of boat very first time boat was lifted out of the water. I have tried amicably to give them the opportunity the correct their mistake but have found them increasingly difficult to not only receive a call back, but to speak to me on the phone. Wife has hung up on me several times. I had a separate service appt scheduled to fix a water pump issue and their repair tech never showed up nor answered his phone for two days. When he did show up, the estimate was $150 more than what they told me over the phone. When I asked about the discrepancy, the tech called back to the marina and was instructed to leave without repairing the pump. I then called Marina and Will (owner) was too busy to come to the phone as usual. Wife said I refused to pay my bill and then hung up on me. They seem very overwhelmed and unable to deliver promised service nor quality. Wife told me she has three businesses they are trying to run, seems like quantity not quality. I will not be using them further and do not recommend this business to anyone else. read more

What a terrible company with terrible people working there. We were in the Keys for 5 days and were going to pick up a boat a friend had bought to drive it back to Colorado. Erin had told our friend it would be ready with 100 hour service done on Thursday. We called the day before and she said they were busy and could we get it Friday and we agreed even though we had hoped to use the boat for a couple of days. Showed up Friday afternoon thinking we would at least get part of a day but that's where 4 days of issues started. She knew we were driving it across the country. We showed up and the connector for the trailer lights was faulty and wouldn't work and she said they never had time to do the 100 hour service she told our friend she was doing. She never told him that either as when we talked to him later he had no idea. She was short and went inside. Some other guy came out and we asked if he could fix the lights and he said all of their techs were gone but he would go look for a part. Disappeared too. After standing in the hot sun for 30 minutes trying to fix it ourselves, I went in, pretty irritated at this point, to find out why nobody was helping us. I asked if someone could help and with her back to me she says "I said all our techs are gone and it's not my fault that boat has been sitting for a year and a half." No, but it was your responsibility to service it like you said you would and then maybe try to offer a solution. Then the guy wandered out and I asked him again. He looked completely clueless and offered no help. So I gave up on them being helpful or even remotely good at communicating with other humans and just asked if he could at least tell us where else we could go to fix it. He just shrugged and said he didn't know. How do you work at a boat repair place and not know another person who can fix a freaking trailer?! Had to find someone else on another key to fix it. A few hours later, people on the freeway were honking at us because the hydraulic arm for the power pole had failed and lowered and ripped off the fiberglass pole on the freeway in Miami traffic. The next day we saw the tire was low so we had to keep stopping to fill it. In Arkansas, the tire exploded and ripped off the wheel well and we noticed the bolts were completely rusted and had to sit on the side of the road for someone to bust the lugs off. They don't care about their customers and are beyond rude. Don't tell your customers it's not your fault when it is absolutely, 100% your fault. Good luck surviving the recession! Places with awful service like yours are first to go. read more

My boat was brought in for a bogging down problem encountered when applying throttle, it ran fine at idle. Almost $850.00 later I had a new fuel line. (16 foot skiff with small outboard and 6 gallon portable fuel tank). Upon getting the boat back to our 1 week vacation rental, I noticed the fuel tank was strapped down with the bulb kinked against the back of the boat, after correcting this, I test ran the boat, the problem was still there and I noticed the fuel demand valve which they replaced, was installed backwards. Called them and they said bring it in first thing in the morning the next day, Friday, and they would get on it. I did not trust them after the initial fleecing of $850 for a fuel line, and asked for them to only fix what they had installed backwards and informed them that I could not spend any more money on this issue. Called at 2pm on Friday and I was told they must be working on it and that they (Sea Center), will call me when it is ready. I called at the end of the day knowing they would be closing soon to find the boat had not been looked at. I had d to pick it up that day since there would be no one in to work on the boat the next day, Saturday, and I was leaving first thing Sunday. I believe they decided to wait me out knowing I was only in town for the week (which was brought up at the front counter), and had to leave in another day, and, since they would not be getting any more money out of me. After I got back home, I tried calling to speak to the person I had usually dealt with and no answer, I finally got someone else on the phone and left a message, he said the person I left the message for would call me back. I have not received a return call, didn't really think I would, just wanted to give them the opportunity to do the right thing and give a partial refund for a $850 fuel line (naive, I know). Upon talking with other service centers, this type of bogging down issue is a common problem and is typically 1 of about 3 or 4 things. The fuel line and gas tank are the first things they normally look at. The Sea Center took almost 4 hours at $ 150 an hour to diagnose, plus parts to replace a fuel line. The fuel line had a liner and probably needed replacing since the liner does separate from the hose body, but wouldn't this be the first thing to check, to avoid the additional expense to your customer? Suspect they couldn't find the issue and as a Hail Mary, they said it was the fuel line. If it's a matter of incompetent technicians, you need to be conducting oversight and/or be willing to absorb the expense when they mess things up, and not pass their learning expense onto the customer, and then waiting for the tourist to leave if it comes back to you. Had I seen the other reviews on YELP, I would have looked elsewhere for motor repair. Incompetence and/or unethical business practices, I would not recommend this business. read more

They charged us $350 to make 2 adjustments on our boat. Ended up keeping it 3 days, now we are on vacation, that's 3 days we couldn't use it. And the issues are not fixed. Now I can't get a call back & I spoke with Erin & told her I'm not calling anymore to work something out. If I don't here from someone I'll just contact my credit card company. I wish there was a zero star option. These people are incompetent crooks! They ripped me off on a boat repair and lied multiple times about the situation. I paid them in full to install a lower unit on one motor and water pumps on both motors. When I attempted to use the boat it was immediately obvious they did the install wrong. The owner told me directly that he would "make it right" and that he knew what must have been done wrong and that it was a "simple fix". I took his word for it (foolishly). They held my boat hostage for two months and then admitted they didn't have any mechanics on staff so they couldn't correct their screw up. They told me to arrange for someone to pick up the boat on a trailer and get it off their property or they would start charging storage....FOR THEIR SCREW UP!! When I pushed back on this they said they would credit me for the cost of the repair and that it shouldn't be a big deal since it was an easy fix. I found an outside mechanic to pick the boat up and make the repair and it cost me $650. As soon as I tried to get the credit from them for my actual out of pocket expense of $650 (never mind all the hassle, hours of messing with it and loss of use) they told me they would not give me anything. These people are scum. Avoid them at all costs. read more

I would like to use the Sea Center - it is in a convenient location and I prefer spending my money locally in Abig Pine. Went down last week to visit friends that have a boats there. One of the motors had an issue we took the boat to this place. The guy called "Chief" was supposed to call back that night. Noon the next day still have not heard from him. When we called was told they had replaced parts that had JUST been replaced! They did this without even contacting anyone to see if they wanted to do this. They did not scope the motor and we're asked to do so several times before leaving the boat. The cost for this was $1,000. This was a total waste of time and money. The boat still had same issue! Was not fixed. Would not recommend this place to anyone if you want the issues actually addressed and proper communication. Not honest people. read more

Service in the Keys is generally sub par from any reasonable perspective yet Sea Center manages to underperform even lowered expectations. The ETEC service guys seem to be able to make most repairs but skip details on major service interval work. There is no discount on labor for the shortcuts of course and a return visit to service the items omitted will cost you several hours labor for servicing things that should have been included in your annual or 300 hr service. Make an appointment even in the slow months and watch you boat sit for 4 days after the day you bring it in for the appointment. Well, that's just TS because they take a dozen other bigger spenders and your appointment that you had to wait three weeks for doesn't mean jack. I agree with the other reviewer on the service manager's lack of professionalism. I never complained once about a price or amount of labor. But when I brought an issue up of items skipped on a service and a horribly shoddy electronics installation, there was not a sliver of effort to adjust or make right the things that were obviously very wrong. I will never, ever return to any business that screws a customer so blatantly and makes no effort to admit the service was lacking nor any effort to make it right. read more

Took my 2018 boat for warranty repair. They couldn't identify the issue and did non warranty repairs they said would fix the issue but didn't. I was on vacation in Islamorada and had to return home on Saturday. I was told they had been on the phone with Evinrude and they think it is an injector which is covered under warranty but they didn't have the part. I went to get the boat and they charged me $1000 for changing the plugs and lower unit oil and a small plastic piece on the lower unit. I got my boat and trailer and left and then I noticed my trailer fender was damaged. I called the business and they said they would review the video and see who damaged it still no response two weeks later. I then took my boat to a local dealer and was advised they shouldn't have needed to do what they did because the motor only had 30 hours. read more

This place gives you a maintenance quote and then calls to tell you that it will be more labor than expected, the mechanic was having trouble taking the lower unit apart. Quoted less than 500 dollars for 300 hour service check on a 50 HP Evinrude ETEC. A week later, I paid 713.00 dollars. They claimed it was due to a frozen lower unit screws, it took more time in labor hours, $405.00 plus parts and taxes. Maybe it would have been better to buy a new motor. read more

Where do I start. William service my 2019 verado 350. I had a fuel burn issue with it so he sad he contacted Mercury and they said to perform a 300hr on the engines that were at 270 hr anyways. This didn't resolve the issue so William told me to bring it in for warranty as per Mercury. I spoke with Mercury direct and they said they never authorized this service that the engine fuel burn was within spec. William told me the bill was 600.00 and that I had to pay it. After swearing at me for 15 minutes. My wife went to pick the boat up and not only did he swear at her but up the charge to 1000.00 or said he wouldn't release the boat. He basically got caught in a lie as mercury never authorized the service but in fact told William not to take the boat in because the fuel burn was within spec. On top of all this it still burns 10% more fuel that he said he fixed. Everything is good unless you have an issue. Very unprofessional. Not the first to say this and certainly not the last. His wife Erin is nice and was very apologetic and stated that this has been a serious problem with her husband and I wasn't the first customer that he cus out but nothing she can do because he is the boss. Was extremely embarrassed watching her husband cus and swear at a woman like that. read more
