Avoid!! You will not receive your deposit back. We had a wonderful experience at the business & the boat was fantastic. The staff was great. The paperwork was easy & they were accommodating. All good until no refund on our $1000 deposit. We rented the boat on 6/17 & paid the $1000 dep on 6/16... to this date 7/22 no refund! I've only had text conversations and (1) phone call. I've been told they are having problems with their credit card processing company but after this amount of time & patience... it sure feel like fraud. It's very disappointing. I would give them "zero" stars but that is not an option. My family was in Key West in mid-July 2021 and rented a boat from Aqua Boat Rentals on July 11th for a boat we were to take out on July 12th and could have it from 9AM to 5PM. They asked for a credit card to hold the reservation, which was no problem. My kids were super excited to be out on the water all day. About 8:45am on July 12th we received a call from Cathy that the weather forecast was not looking very good and that they would have to cancel the reservation but would refund the deposit of $1,000.00 promptly. She apologized for having to cancel. By the way the weather turned out beautiful that day after an early morning shower. It is now 2 months later and I still have not received the $1,000.00 refund. I have filed disputes with my credit card company and they are getting no response from anyone at Aqua. They even tried to call Aqua with me on the phone to help me get this resolved, but no one answered the phone. I have been calling every couple of day and even spoken to Cathy. I was told that their bank was holding more than $31,000 in credit card refunds from the end of July. Cathy has told me she would check and call back. Big surprise, NO call back and besides her issue with her bank is not my problem. I now call her every day and leave a message asking for the credit to my credit card or issue me a check for the $1,000.00 and send it to me overnight. Still no return call, text, voice mail anything. I have even taken to calling from various phone numbers so she would know it was not me, nothing has worked. This place is one big SCAM. Their name on my credit card is Lower Keys Boat Rental when in fact they are Aqua Rentals. Lower Keys says they get phone calls all the time asking for their deposit refunds and have to explain to them that they really want to call Aqua Rentals.... I am considering filing a legal suite against them! Seems to be a very consistent theme among many people who have tried to and even actually rented from Aqua Boat Rentals. read more

Final update. I received my deposit back over the weekend. I am still wary of this company due to the fact that their bookkeeping skills are not the best. But it all ended well. Just to reiterate in my first post: the boat was as promised, easy to pick up and return. I just wish the deposit had been returned as promised. Update: May 20th - Deposit STILL not returned:( I spoke with Kathy who told me she would look into it and is doing just that. She sent me photos of two interactions that show the amount was refunded; however, she has to do a little more digging to find out why it hasn't gone through. We rented a center console boat to take out for the day. The boating experience went well and we had a great time with family. My problems with the company began afterward, as we waited on our $1000 deposit to be credited back to our card. I called numerous times and was told it would take 10-14 days or " it should be there by Friday". After almost a month, I filed a dispute claim with my credit card company. We rented from Aqua in April of this year. The rental process was smooth, the boat was great and we had a great time. We were charged for a security deposit that we were told we'd get back. Brought the boat back and were told we would get it back within 10 days. It took 5 months and lots of calls to get it back. The owner says they have a better system for deposits, but beware a full charge. Other than the security deposit it was a fine experience. read more

They said it would take up to 14 business days to receive the credit on my credit card. 18 business days later there was still no credit and the company failed to respond to voice messages or texts. RENTER BEWARE!!!!!! I reserved a boat on April 28 with a $1000 deposit for Memorial Day weekend (one month ahead of time). Two days before the holiday I received a phone call stating the boat reserved for me had been damaged by another renter and they had no boat for me, but deposit would be credited back on my account. After a week I called, I got the same story about 10-14 days. After 14 days, no credit. I called and she gave a fake date as to when the deposit was refunded. Future phone calls were now blocked. I Filed a dispute with my credit card company and after 8 weeks, they have gotten no response from the merchant. They will be taking matters into their own hands. By the long list of horrible reviews, this seems to be a common practice for this company - take someone's deposit with no intention of refunding. Most renters are here in vacation and forget about it once they are home or are not able to receive money owed to them. Most places don't even charge $1000 deposit. Rent somewhere else!!!! read more

Was no terrible I'm considering a civil suite. Absolutely awful all the way around . Started the day with the boat we choose being completely dead with a corroded battery . Switched to another smaller boat without a grill ; so all the food we bought went to waste. Then their gps and depth finder went out completely . So we spent the entire day trying to read a half ripped up old map that we found on the boat and trying to avoid sandbar after sandbar. Finally gave up and left the water 4 hours early. The entire time the fuel gauge on full. Get back to the pump and spent 70$ filling up a "full tank" . When speaking to the employee and owner they were beyond rude and disrespectful. Even went as far as insults and discrimination!! Would not refund any of our money. Completly ruined our day and costed a small fortune. Even refused to explain the fees they are charging. If I could give no stars I would. DO NOT GO HERE. read more

Worst service possible. They don't tell you that they actually charge your card for the 500 deposit. They make it seem like it's just a hold. Then they'll tell you that you have to wait 7-10 days for your deposit to be refunded back to your account. Unreal! At least let your customers know before hand! I had previously written A negative review as there was a delay with my deposit return. I have since received my full deposit along with an offer for 50% off my next visit to Key West if I do business with them. I learned that there was an issue with their credit card system and had been several unhappy customers due to this issue. They have since resolved this issue. I am going to respond to the post from Kathy the owner of Aqua Boat Rentals and then I am going to give everyone an update on this saga. 1. I never stated that I hit bottom because I dont recall hitting bottom while I was underway with the boat. If you pull the data from the GPS you will see the exact path that I took. I have requested Aqua to provide me with photos of the prop prior to me renting the boat and was told that they would not be available to me. I also asked for the security camera video of someone showing me the condition of the prop prior to me renting the boat and was told that would not be available to me. When I returned the boat, I didnt become defensive. I simply informed Aqua Boat Rentals that the Garmin Depth Finder was faulty, this is documented by my video that I took while I was underway. Aqua Boat Rentals informed me that there is no Depth Finder in the world that will provide you with the depth while the boat is moving. This was one of the craziest things I had ever heard. You dont need to know the depth of the water when the boat is sitting still because its not in any jeopardy of hitting the bottom. The primary function of a depth finder is to provide depth while the boat is moving. I called Garmin and provided them with the exact make and model and Garmin informed me that the depth finder must be installed correctly on a pontoon boat because if any air is in between the pontoon and the water then the depth finder wont work. Aqua's statement that the Garmin wont pick up rocks and reefs was refuted by the Garmin representative, who stated that the Garmin will detect rocks and reef as long as the unit is installed correctly. Being that the Garmin blinks 11.1 ft as soon as you give the boat any type of speed, clearly shows it was installed incorrectly. To respond to the Aqua statement as to the damages to the prop and lower unit, I will again reference back to the fact that there is no documentation as to the condition of the lower unit prior to me renting the boat. In fact, I would be happy to show the cell phone records to anyone of me calling Aqua after being on the boat for 15 minutes and wondering why the boat only got up to 7mph and wouldnt get on plane. Now for the great news. To quote Aqua's last post "the contract states, you break you buy it". I have requested on several occasions for Aqua Boat Rentals to provide me with a copy of that contract that I signed with Aqua Boat Rentals and they have failed to provide. I then disputed every penny from these guys and my bank agreed with me and refunded me. I am glad to know that I helped others avoid doing business with these guys. I would be happy to show anyone the texts messages that I received from Jorge. The other posts that confirm that Jorge is a total nut job is very true. t if you break it, you pay for it. I had a great FREE day on the water, as I didnt pay a penny for the boat rental. As far as taking responsibility for my actions - I would go back to the fact that there is still a question as to the condition of the lower unit prior to me renting it. If Aqua has video of someone showing me the lower unit prior to me taking the boat out, then the question will be resolved. As far as Aqua apologizing to me, there is no need to apologize - getting all my money back was all I ever wanted.
