Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes…read more Everything was amazing. We started with a dozen tamales. They were seasoned perfectly and were delicious. Then they brought out the broiled shrimp. The sauce was so good, I could have bathed in it. It was like liquid lemon pepper. We dipped the garlic rolls into the sauce. So good. The steak was a 42-45 oz porterhouse that was the best steak I have even had. And I've been to some world famous steak restaurants. This blew Peter Lugers out of the water. The fries were fresh, hand cut and cooked perfectly, The salad was simple but one of my favorite parts of the meal. The staff was super friendly. The atmosphere was quaint and welcoming. This was far out of the way for us but so worth it.

Hell, I go to Doe's in Monroe every single time I am in Monroe. When I would profess my love for Doe's to my Mississippi friends they would always tell me: "you have to go to the Greenville location. It's the original". I figured they were right but also figured I would never be in Greenville since there are not many things to do there. But 2025 was the year that I finally made it here. We made a special stop on the way to Eureka Springs. It was everything I had hoped and I absolutely loved it. You must know that this is the original location and it is not fancy on the outside or the inside. Parking is mostly on the street and the neighborhood seems a wee bit sketchy. The building looks like an old house from the outside. Needless to say, the kids were skeptical and wondered why their dad drug them here. That continued when we walked in to the kitchen, walked through the other kitchen, and were seated in one of the rooms. One of the kids said: "I feel like I am dining at someone's house". Exactly. This place is famous! All skepticism was washed away when we got our food. A ribeye and fries for me and a fillet and fries for them to share. Both were perfectly cooked, full of flavor, and made this Doe's fan grin from ear to ear. It was a great meal I will remember forever. Was it cheap? Definitely not. For two entrees, a beer, and a tea, it was around $200 with a tip. Was it worth it to me? Hell yes. I freakin loved it. Is it worth a drive from New Orleans just to eat here? Probably not. Should you divert a road trip to eat here? Absolutely. By the way, service was exactly as you would expect. Super friendly and we were treated like regulars despite it being our first time. Also, there was a cop working outside so don't be scared.

You never know when you might find a jewel when you are traveling the back roads, especially in…read moreMississippi, but this is truly one. A bit off the beaten track away from the commercial strip, it is located on the former main drag across from an old abandoned Buick Dealership building and where a tornado destroyed a building several years ago. The building across the street is a beautiful scene in the evening sunset too. The inside has been tastefully redone, but we sat outside in mid April. Our waitstaff was young and tentative at first, but brightened delightfully with a bit of conversation. The management came around frequently to check and was exceptionally friendly and helpful. We also struck up a conversation with a fellow visitor who visits Greenville frequently that was fun and informative. So the atmosphere was great. But the food was unexpectedly good. We shared the shrimp and grits and a Caesar salad which was more than enough for the two of us. The homemade Caesar dressing was as good as any I have tasted. The shrimp were large and cooked perfectly --as were the grits. But the star was the dark brown roux surrounding the presentation with just the right amount of spicey pepperiness that complemented and did not overwhelm the shrimp/grits. We have eaten a lot of shrimp and grits in our lifetimes and this was one of the most memorable! If we pass this way again will definitely stop by! Highly recommended!!

In Greenville for a meeting and we had reservations for Downtown Grille for 6:30 on a Friday night…read more There were ten of us and we beat the crowd. I was kind of worried since it's a nice looking place surrounded by businesses that appear to be permanently closed. However, a crowd picked up closer to 8, so I can tell it's a local favorite. Our server was amazing! Didn't have to ask for refills, condiments or anything. She handled us really well and answered any questions we had. I ordered one of the daily specials, blackened redfish. Menu said it came on orzo, which I don't like so I subbed for the long grain rice. I added a side of broccolini. Food came out hot and in a reasonable amount of time. My fish, with that Cajun cream sauce, melted in my mouth! I didn't like the rice, as it was gummy but the broccolini was cooked as if a gold medal was the prize at the end of the night! My only misgiving about it was I wanted more of it!
