I've been to bigos several times. and the best thing to get is the fajita plate. Waiters and wrasses seems to have a methodical pattern of serving tables, rare to see ones alert to go to your table if you raise a hand for them. The place was quiet enough for voices to reach them. However, the issue in my review comes from the unsweetened tea. While the waitress gave us sweetened tea instead of unsweetened the first time. My father is diabetic and I caught it first before he took a sip. The second time was trying to get a waitress over, after 5 minutes my father went up to get the unsweet tea himself for us both. However, we didn't end up drinking it because of the foul taste it had. as if the water was dirty or the brew itself was dirty from bacteria. The after taste was rancid. I'm going to be skipping my visits to Bigos until they do something about it. Prices are high enough, but I'm not going to settle for bad quality. Aside from that, there was a weird guy going around taking photos of people eating. not asking for permission, but doing his own thing. Personally I'm not bothered by it. but I'm at a place to eat, not to have my side profile taken or my half eaten plate to be a French model for this guy. This place as been around for years! The parrillada was as good as I remember it! The Pina Colada, sadly, was not. It was lacking in flavor. I remember them being so tasty. Hopefully this time it was just a fluke but the strawberry daiquiri was also lacking in flavor soooo I don't know. read more

One of my favorite places to eat in Brownsville. Our family has been enjoying their speedy service and well priced fajita parrilladas (fajita, pollo, mixta) for years! Their tostaditas and salsa (usually verde and pico de gallo) are always a solid start. We typically each get a cup of frijoles charros, and then it's a toss up for which of the entrees we want to split. Don't think I've ever left disappointed or still hungry! We often see margaritas or cervezas being poured to match the Mexicano decor. Can't go wrong visiting Bigo's any time we're in town visiting family. read more

The worst food and service ever. Usually not this critical but this place deserves 0 stars. A group of 9 seniors. Food orders were wrong, ground beef rather than chicken. Tickets were wrong and delivered to the wrong couples. 20 minutes between food orders being delivered. One couple got their order after everyone else was done eating. One couple had to wait 20 minutes for their tortillas and their dish was cold. Over all one of the worst dining experiences in my 75 years on this planet. Avoid at all costs. read more

What an almost mediocre place this is. We went to a birthday dinner there last week. The food was average/below average in quality and taste, and the service was absolutely abysmal. The place is very loud, and conversation was difficult, especially for the three in our party with hearing deficits (two with hearing aids). Guacamole, salsa, and chips were served as appetizers. The guacamole was literally mashed up avocados. No seasoning whatsoever. Needed salt at least, which was a tough request since our party of 22 had TWO salt shakers to share. The salsa was so hot (spicy) as to be inedible for everyone at our table but one person. The chips were gross. WAY overcooked, greasy, old, just gross. Two in our party had undergone recent dental work and wanted something easier to chew than fajitas. Too bad. No other choices except a salad... with fajita meat. The fajita plates came with a combo of beef, chicken, pork, and sausage. The beef was tough and hard to chew, and the flavor was bland. The chicken was okay, although lacking seasoning and bland like everything else. The pork was mostly gristle and not good at all. The best was the sausage, and of course, that's what they served the least of. The enormous ball of onion on top of the meat wasn't an attractive presentation, nor was it easy to handle or cut up. The tiny tortillas are "cute" but a ton of work to get enough to actually eat a meal. Not one drink was refilled without having to ask the waitstaff, not even the water (tap water, no ice). Our party was not checked on at all during our meal, and we were never asked if we needed anything. Too bad the gratuity was included in the bill for a party that size as no gratuity was warranted. Lazy, inattentive staff stood at the bar talking most of the time we were there. My husband travels with a service dog. She is extraordinarily well trained and well behaved, and she was wearing her service vest with obvious declaration of her status as a service animal. We were descended upon immediately and told the dog had to go if we couldn't produce her paperwork. IN TEXAS NO PAPERWORK, NO ID, NO LICENSE, NO REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED. He called the owner and came back to the table, again asking for her paperwork. We informed him of Texas law, and he claimed to be unaware. (It is incumbent on any business to know the laws of the state(s) in which they operate.) We were ready with the Texas law pulled up on our phones to show him, but when he could see he was up for a fight, he backed down. What he did is now legally called harassment. The only two legal questions are "whether the service animal is required because the person has a disability" and "what type of work or task the service animal is trained to perform." Neither of those questions was ever asked. Thankfully there were leftovers from another meal in the refrigerator, because were hungry when we got home. Won't waste money on this place ever again. read more

Rip-off. Pay $30 for two handfuls of fajitas & a small cup of beans (so-called "parillada for 2"). Definitely not worth it. Their fajitas used to be great but all their food now is just bleh. The service is also very poor. Not once will you ever see a member of staff smiling. Waiters don't introduce themselves & are not very attentive. If you order to-go it's always a mean looking lady at the counter who doesn't say hi, she just looks at you and says "digamé" ("tell me").. then she doesn't say thank you, she just gives you your receipt while holding conversations with other staff until you leave. This is appalling & if she's anywhere in management or ownership she is probably the reason all the staff look so unhappy. The clientele makes all the ambiance. There are usually groups & big parties celebrating something which is nice. That's the only thing good about the place. Oh & a few visits ago I walked into the men's restroom and there was a log of poop stationed right on the floor.. absolutely bizarre & disgusting. read more

The service here was horrible, the worst service I have ever experienced. We walked in and sat ourselves to a dirty table and waited 10 minutes for someone to come to our table until we called someone over. Bathrooms were dirty and I was able to see the grime on the toilets along with toilet paper on the floor and dirty mirrors. Our group speaks English and not much Spanish so we could not order without having someone from the restaurant translate to the server. Ordering drinks was a struggle as well and had to get up and order at the bar. Food was great Then the bill came and there were many errors which had us having to call the manager. Our Family celebrated our mother's birthday at Bego's recommended by me we all came from Austin and Houston, and the food was great just like I told them but for some reason, my waiter was mad and made my evening very bad. My order was served after everybody had eaten, We asked to play las mananitas for my mother just like everybody else in the restaurant but I had to ask 3 times and they were delaying it on purpose when it came time to pay my waiter was hiding behind the wall and did not get my bill until everybody else had paid heirs. He was doing this on purpose and I asked to speak to the manager but I was denied the opportunity to do so. This has always been one of my favorite places to get some authentic, Mexican food in Brownsville. The fajitas here are just so tender, and so juicy and flavorful. This is just something I can't quite find in Austin, and what a gem it is to have it here in Brownsville. I also love the tostadas, salsa and pico de gallo to start the meal off. The pico de gallo is consistently super fresh, as if it was just made right before being brought out to your table. They also have a full bar. Their tortillas are delicious. Service is not on point here.... as it typically takes 5-10 minutes for anyone to notice that you've been seated. However, the food is what keeps bringing me back! Walked in and the waiter didn't greet us or say hello, nothing. My wife and our 2 small kids seated ourselves and the dude still didn't come over to take a drink order or give us menu's. There was a total of about 3 families i the entire restaurant all Hispanic. Finally got pissed off about not getting any service so we walked out. But the guy made sure all the other tables were taken care of... racist ass restaurant... they may as well just put a sign up stating no white folks allowed. Read the reviews of this place. Ordered Matamoros tacos and the angus beef fajita. Both were delicious and authentic. Tasted just like the tacos I had in Matamoros. Pico de galo and the green salsa were so good and spicy. They're not shy revealing the truth about Mexican food. The meat was so tender and perfectly seasoned and grilled. I ditched Taco Palenque big time, that's fake Mexican food and tasted like shit!
