I ordered a Hong Kong Milk Tea and a Matcha Milk Tea in large. Both an utter disappointment. They were tasteless and watery. The Hong Kong Milk Tea was simply milk with a hint of bitterness. The Matcha Milk Tea was essentially a tall glass of muted milk! Also, both drinks had zero sweetness to them. I came at a time when it was super busy. Despite having 3 drink makers and 1 cashier at work, it took roughly 15-20 minutes for me to receive my drink. They all seemed tense and frustrated at the time. Not sure if I should give them the benefit of the doubt that the drinks were poorly made due to the customer volume at the time, or just bad recipe. The seating here is ok. Limited when it's crowded but it's a unique set up. Props to their decor -- that's the only thing holding up for my 2 stars. read more

Okay so I'm a bit of a bubble tea aficionado so when I heard about Biju, I knew it would be a divisive bubble tea joint. After all they are very different from the rest being the only one that does fresh tea, and also the only one that uses fresh milk. Two HUGE differences that are bound to make their drinks taste very different to what people are used to. Fortunately for them, I've been drinking bubble tea for a long time and even lived in Taiwan, where I had it almost every day from many different outlets. That said, I've seen some stores in Taipei start to do fresh tea as a unique selling point, some do fresh milk, and then some others do fresh fruit. While I was there I gradually shifted away from the powdered milk variety to the fresh milk variety. I'm glad to say that the bubble tea at Biju rivals the best fresh milk versions I've had in Taiwan. So if you're looking for fresh milk bubble tea, come here. If you want the powdered milk version... Don't One of the advantages of using fresh milk is that their hot bubble teas are made using frothed milk, so it's super yummy, creamy and foamy. I wanted my 100th review to be "special". I had 2 yelp event locations in mind for this milestone. Both had invited us over for a masterclass which was very special and the quality of food and individual ingredients was amazing. I finally decided to round up this century with a review on Biju Bubble Tea Room & begin the next one with Chipotle. The Biju Bubble Tea Room, is not on a main street in Soho, but believe me, its worth trying to find this place (citymapper is on your phone for a reason) and not getting waylaid by other bubble tea rooms along the path. Every cup of tea is freshly brewed (from leaves) to order - in an espresso like machine. You have a choice of black & green teas. You can then add any of their natural syrups to flavour your tea. The South Asian Wintermelon is an interesting novelty. This is shaken in a ccktail shaker with ice & then poured into a glass. To this you can add either tapioca pearls (chewy), popping bubbles/boba (completely natural), jelly (nata de coco - coconut jelly - completely natural, completely vegetarian - sourced from the Philippines) or basil seeds (I know a couple of reviewers have commented on how weird they look, they are an acquired taste, but really good for you especially in the heat of summer) Another stand out at Biju Bubble Tea is that you can specify how sweet you want your tea. They also have the option of coconut water instead of tea which is healthier. And they have a couple of mousse tea options too which are mildly salty. Their range is amazing and since everything is brewed and prepared fresh, the only limit on the combination you choose is your imagination. The team is young, knowledgeable & energetic. They will very helpfully explain and clarify whatever questions you may have about their teas. No sullen, morose, "don't bother me" looks here, that I have seen in other bubble tea places. Seemingly more concerned about the look of the place than the quality of the drink, I'm sorry to say that I was not won over by their drink. I had a Taro soya milk bubble tea and not only were there bits in it (from the fruit I guess) which I did not like but the bubbles seemed to stick together, there were many chunky ice cubes in the drink and I even found a bubble within an ice cube, which to me suggests that the bubbles were not fresh. Thanks to the yelp app bagged myself a free matcha milk tea drink for lunch. I still like their service where they even bring out the bubble tea to you if you have sat yourself down. I like that they make the drink in front of you. I like that they use real milk. However, the matcha powder was not thoroughly mixed in and there is a powdery taste in my drink which has knocked the star rating down by one. Loving the coconut jelly though :D Otherwise, the place is still have a pretty cool vibe for people to hang out and relax about! read more

After being abroad for the past few months, deprived of boba, I was excited to finally be able to satisfy my boba cravings here in London. I wouldn't call myself a boba addict but I'm pretty addicted to boba and, thus, have tried any and all boba spots in and around Los Angeles. Unfortunately my visit was rather disappointing. I ordered a classic boba milk tea and it wasn't good at all. The milk tea was watered down and the boba was undercooked making it really hard to enjoy. On top of that, the wait time was ridiculously long even though there was all of like two customers prior to. So the worst thing about this place is that it's probably too busy. When the queue is long, I think their system breaks down a bit, even with 3 people making drinks. However, when it is right, then it's great, they offer a large range of teas with all number of popping boba, solid boba and fruit jellies to go along with them. If you're there when they aren't that busy, you can be in and out in a few minutes, if they are buys however, you can be waiting 20 from time of ordering. Interesting seating and ambiance. We got one roasted oolong milk tea with tapioca pearls and lychee jelly and one matcha cream tea with konjac jelly. The service isn't particularly friendly, but I like the flavor of the teas, not too sweet. The lychee jelly was standard and good but the tapioca pearls was a bit hard which means they were either not properly cooked or not fresh. I did like the konjac jelly, but felt the cream just tasted like sour cream. I wouldn't go out of my way to come to this place, but if I were craving boba and I was here already, I would still come in. There are a ton of boba tea spots in London Chinatown including Biju. My friend and I decided to come here to try something other than our usual spots but we were both disappointed! My friend ordered the roasted oolong milk tea and I got the genmaicha milk tea. The teas were hard to enjoy as they tasted very diluted/watered down. The oolong milk tea was pretty much flavorless and my genmaicha was too milky. Biju is supposedly known for using fresher ingredients like fresh organic milk rather than powdered creamery and each cup is made to order. This is all a good concept but I don't think it's working if it doesn't taste good. Overall, Biju's boba tea could use a little more refining to bring the tea flavors to light and I'd recommend going to the many other boba tea spots in Chinatown instead. read more

The first time I went there I had the Hong Kong Milk Tea (apparently it's one of their best sellers) and I can see why! Rich and creamy, without the use of any artificial creamers! The tapioca pearls were also just the RIGHT amount of chewy (I'm really fussy about this)! Staff were also showing me how each cup of tea was individually brewed - and you can really taste the difference! I didn't get the bloated feeling that I sometimes get with other bubble teas which use creamers instead of real milk. They also offered soy milk which my lactose intolerant cousin was very pleased about (TMI hhahah) :D :D I was addicted right after my first cup and I've been back every other day during my two week stay in London :S Tried many other flavours including their Matcha and Taro teas, as well as their fruity Passion Fruit and Mango teas when I want something really refreshing. The Hong Kong Milk Tea and Matcha are my favouriteeesss (back in SG now and still can't find something that beats theirs), but I never got to trying their coconut water drinks as I'm just not a big fan of coconut water. Really cool bubble tea shop! I liked the cool stadium seating and I loved that the cashier was extra friendly in explaining everything. They brew their tea with an espresso machine which is something I've never seen before. The tea is really fresh that way but they don't let it cool enough so it ends up melting the ice and watering down the drink. So you the tea was strong yet the drink was watered down. Does that make sense? It doesn't even really make sense to me. Anyway...worth a try! read more

The vibe is so chill and relaxed. Also the seating is so comfy and colourful. The cafe was very aesthetically pleasing and Instagram worthy. The prices were very reasonable too. After seeing the reviews of the recent Yelp event at Biju, I made sure I bookmarked it so I could try it out the next time I was in London. I'm a massive tea fan, herbal tea, fruit tea, leaf tea and now bubble tea! I drink a lot of all of those kinds of teas so I'd definitely say I'm turning into a bit of a tea connoisseur! The staff at Biju were really cool, they explained their ethos and how they use natural ingredients in their tea. That's right, no powdered flavourings, this is the real thing! I opted for the passionfruit tea, whilst lovely and fruity, the natural tea taste really cut through. This was perfect for me. I had pineapple popping pearls that were absolutely bursting with flavour, and I had some jelly in there too (I can't remember the flavour! Think it might have been lychee? It was also amazing) I can't wait to go back and try some of their other teas on offer. I noticed they do almond milk teas which is a massive plus for me! Popped in to try some London style bubble tea and woah, best decision of the night! This is by far the most professional bubble tea I've been in to. To get the less important stuff outta the way, customer service was very good for a bubble tea shop, great knowledgeable staff, atmosphere, music, and seating. Top marks here! What about the drink? Definitely better than what I get in New York. The combination of freshly made tea and fresh milk definitely makes a big difference, and the pearls here are just right, soft and chewy. Ive given Biju a few tries. The taste of drinks & boba are all just okay, nothing great, but nothing to complain about. The menu is shorter and prices higher. The reason for this review is more about my last experience here. I brought my friends here to introduce one of them to milk tea & tapioca. When I was trying to get the Assam milk tea, the guy who works there intervened and suggested passion fruit tea instead. He argued that most western customers prefer the sweeter teas instead. Okay, fine, I get your point BUT we couldve just head over to Starbucks for that. My friend is an agreeable guy so he didnt mind. Of course once we had our drinks, the guy came out and asked hows everything, my friend responded he preferred bitter drinks - literally the opposite of the passion fruit tea, which I knew was incredibly sweet. I have been here on numerous occasions when working in Soho on a chilly Saturday night. It is open late, which is a great plus. Biju serves some of the best bubbles in town. Soya and almond milk are available for vegans and the vast variety of flavours is impressive, from Pistachio milk and lychee coconut water to earl grey and rooibos. So far I have only added the traditional tapioca pearls but filled bubbles, pudding and coconut jelly are also possible toppings. The staff are always friendly and I am slowly working my way through the menu. The only one I haven't liked so far was the matcha, which was a little too bitter for my liking. The only snag is the price tag, but this is unfortunately the going price for boba in London so I can't really blame them. A great change from Chatime and some interesting flavours. I had Biju at a Yelp event and just had to go to the store to try them out. What really won me over was seeing they use soy or almond milk right in front of you. Many places use a dairy-free powdered creamer (that is barely ever vegan). They also have organic cow milk. I took my friend there for his first bubble tea experience and the staff were really helpful with letting him try all these new-to-him drink extras (jellies, popping boba, basil seeds, etc). He got a peach tea that was super sweet and was amazing! I had to try my standard taro with tapioca balls. My first instinct was to go with almond milk, but my server said she thought the soy milk tasted better. I went with her suggestion, and even though it was Alpro*, I did not think it was the correct decision. It tasted too strong. But then again, the taro was not a strong flavour either. Maybe I was jealous of the peach tea's sweetness. Next time if I get a milk tea, I will go for almond milk. Even though it wasn't the flavour explosion I was anticipating this time, I am still eager to go back and try many more! The space is maximised with tiered seating and additional small stools. They offer a lot of flavour combinations. I've only tried one so far, but that one was very tasty! I thought London had just about hit saturation from bubble tea, what with Bubbleology, Cuppacha and Cha Time all popping up across London in recent months. BUT, I'd not had Biju Bubble Tea. And yes, it really is that good. For a start, you'll probably need to be prepared to have something "different". The bubble tea here just tastes quite different in comparison to the stuff you get at all the other bubble tea venues, and for good reason, because it's pretty much as fresh as you can get it! The number of flavours on offer are enough to make you stand in wonder but not enough to overwhelm you, and the popping balls/jellies on offer are all great and go well with the flavours on offer. I enjoyed it so much I went back 2 days in a row to get my bubble tea hit! My only negatives is that they don't offer a loyalty card! read more

Get's just an OK in my book. Way way too busy here and the queues are insanely long. The gimmick here is that the tea is made fresh for each order. That's all very well if it weren't for the fact that the brews don't quite taste as good as the stuff you can get from some Asian export shops in the area (take your pick, there are many.) The freshly made espresso style tea shots used for the drinks here are a spectacle to witness and a great marketing tactic but are of little value in the end product. It also gets very very busy here. As a result, the counter can run out of toppings. This would not be a problem if it weren't for the fact that they seem to constantly run out of the BUBBLES (the black tapioca pearls.) A bubble tea without bubbles is a fate no one should have to suffer. Fine to drop by and take some pictures for Instagram but I'd go to a different shop if I really wanted authentic bubble tea. read more

Biju is probably one of the bubble tea room I frequent whenever I have the opportunity to head into central London. They have an array of tea leaves that's freshly brewed, loads of topping for you to choose from and a nice and small area for you to hang out with your friends. Top tip! If you hate having sickly sweet bubble tea, let them know and they will sort it out for you. Too much ice? Let them know and you have your tea hot / warm or room temperature. This place was not here the last time I was in London, so naturally, I had to try it. Located in Soho right off the Piccadilly Circus stop (they now do have a 2nd location), this place probably offers the most authentic milk tea in London. It is known for offering freshly brewed made tea and fresh organic milk. No artificial flavoring. Lastly, they use fruit nectar. One can tell the quality difference immediately. The inside is small with fun seating on each side of the cafe. It is always packed (aka good luck getting a seat). Walk right through the middle and up to the front to order. I wanted to give this 4.5 stars but I'm feeling generous so I'm going all out! 5 stars! Ok, so what I like about Biju... First, it's different! As you walk by, you see the TV screens that grab your attention straight away. Next, the seating - wow! It's tiered which I love and you don't see this much these days... The one suggestion I would say is that the seating has seen better days now and need's refreshing. Especially where ladies heels have gone through the cork and left holes as well as black marks. But not a huge deal... Flavours: Biju has done something that as far as I'm aware, no one else has pulled off yet locally... they use all natural ingredients and products. This is hard for a bubble tea shop to do! Ok so for me, the flavours aren't as good as your Chatime or Happy Lemon, but knowing that my drink is made from natural ingredients and has no nasty stuff in it, makes me feel better about the tastes not being as good or strong. But again, this is just my preference, I'm sure other people will say how they think it tastes better, who knows! I also like the layout of the behind the counter section, it just has a really cool, well organised feel to it. Like a true professional or perfectionist has designed and maintained it... that's the only way I can describe it, it just feels right. Service = 1 stars, Tea = 4 stars Having sampled Biju tea at last summer's Yelp party, I had them bookmarked for ages before finally stopping in. Unfortunately the service was just awful. First off, there were 3 staff members behind the counter and no one would acknowledge me even as I said "excuse me" politely. Even then, when another customer walked up she was served before I was even acknowledged. That put me off a bit. Then, when I tried to order I was told that what I asked for wasn't what I wanted. Seriously? That's what I ordered. Ok. So I went for a second option as I clearly was not going to be served what I originally asked for. Thankfully the tea was absolutely great. Delicious, even.
