The quadcycle wasn't bad but nothing that really stood out - no electric drive, okay prices, and disinterested staff. If you're looking for the quadcycle experience, this is all you have and its good enough. But otherwise, there's Divvy and other rentals that will be better if you're looking for bike rentals. read more

Went recently for a Sunset Tour at the Navy Pier location. Pretty sure this was the OG Segway spot back when these became a thing in the early 1990s or 2000s ... going by the age of the EQ and helmets. Rain had made most of these wet and the ones that had straps were soaked and also never untangled by anyone. Gross. That's why I always bring my own, or a cap/bandana to wear underneath rental helmets. The staff were your basic disinterested teenagers, and could be better trained in marketing and customer service. Appeared surprised and unsure of themselves when asked questions about training procedures and timing of the delayed itinerary due to weather. The reason I had asked on specifics is because my companion was new to this experience and and there had been pretty minimal discussion at check-in. The guide was fine and was able to answer my questions but I didn't think it was great that I had to ask these questions. Segwaying is always fun so it wasn't really like an issue once we got started but the fact that two or three Segways had to be swapped out and they seemed a little bit unreliable when parking them indicates this whole Fleet needs to be updated. read more

This store is located right next to a busy intersection, Michigan Ave and Monroe St. Today, a sizeable group of Bike and Roll bicyclists were crossing within a bunch of pedestrians. The majority were riding the bikes through the pedestrian intersection! And several of them were unsteady. The crowd included elderly people and small children. Rather dangerous. I stopped into Bike and Roll to suggest their renters be informed they need to walk the bikes through pedestrian walkways. Oh my, the attitude was immediate. Condescending. One word answers. We did a Segway tour last Sunday Aug 25th and it was fantastic! Marty was our guide, and he was competent, entertaining, and genuinely concerned about everyone feeling comfortable, safe, and having a good time. He took us so many places that we would not have otherwise seen. Breathtaking stops to view and take pictures of the various views of the skyline, fountains, parks, and all with history and other interesting facts, which was an absolute bonus! Made a reservation for a bike for 9 am. The employees showed up almost an hour late for work and then started yelling at us for them not being on time. It was our last day in Chicago and we wasted the first half of it on people who can't show up to work on time and then yell at customers. Then, they refused to service us despite the reservation. Completely unprofessional, rude, bad attitude, nasty employees. Both of the people working there should be fired. If I owned this company I would be horribly embarrassed to have my company represented by anyone who would act like this on my dime. We rented a surrey from Bike and Roll because we needed something with 4 wheels. 4 wheels on the bike/walking paths of the Chicago lakefront are much safer than 2 wheels. It was not their fault that the trails were not clearly marked. The surrey that we rented was in good condition. Not once did we drive into the lake, hit cars, or pedestrians. The brakes worked pretty good. Rental process was quick and easy. They did take a deposit from us (on credit card), but, they returned it after we returned the bike in one piece. It was a nice way to spend an afternoon. read more

Located right at the entrance toward navy pier so it was convenient. It cost much more per hour than the shop across the street but the canopy offered much better coverage and that matters on an almost 90 degree day! We rented the one row quad bike and we were two adults and a 19 month old. We were worried about our daughter staying on the bike but the center seat had a simple but very effective seatbelt and the seat jutted out a bit so no risk of falling or slipping through! This was my first time riding a quad bike and I really enjoyed it. The bike moved well and felt really sturdy. However the seats are not adjustable so I think anyone shorter than 5'4 would have trouble peddling. I'm 5'5 and it was just comfortable for me. Overall I loved the quality of the bike, it was a fun experience to ride along lakeshore toward North Ave beach. I wanted to head towards museum campus but a 1 hr rental didn't give us enough time. This is easily the BEST way to explore Chicago. $10 per hour to cruise up and down the lakeshore, enjoying views of both the lake and the city skyline. Driving down Lakeshore Drive simply isn't as fun. I recommend taking your bike ride into residential neighborhoods to see more of the city. They have tours you can opt to purchase. But why do that if you can follow a map (that they supply to you, btw). My only gripe would be that the minimum rent is for 2 hours, but the posted rate is per hour. Long story short, this company cannot handle the simple act of keeping reservations. And not once but twice! My friends and I bought Groupons and decided on the Presidential Tour, which is a 2-3 hour ride through Obama's old stomping grounds starting at the DuSable Museum. We were psyched. I emailed to get details on making a reservation, then did the actual booking over the phone. The person I spoke to took down the info and I had no reason to believe they'd totally flake out until... The day-of, we pile into a car and make the trek from 5400 N to 5600 S, enjoying the 1-mph traffic related to the Chicago Half-Marathon. When we arrive at the DuSable Museum, we see...nothing. No one. The museum is closed, and there is literally no one around. Tina takes the east, Lauren takes the west, and I wait where I am. No one to be found. We call and are told they have no record of any Presidential Tours that day. We explain that we indeed had one, and I give the name of the person I spoke to, but they've got nothing - no reservation, no apology, no offer to make-good, no customer service of any kind, really. We ended up making our own fun on a self-guided tour since we roll like that, and got our money back from Groupon. Still, what the hay? BUT, get this. One member of our original tribe had to cancel that day and ended up making a reservation for a different tour another day. THE SAME THING HAPPENED TO HER, except it was an in-person denial when she showed up to a rental site and they had no reservation. How. Hard. Can. It. Be??? read more

I rented a mtn bike a few days ago for a quick 2 hrs. Go to the website to see their choices. On Navy Pier, they're located right at the entrance of it. But I rented for the sole purpose of visiting Obama's house! I got a map and Obama's house is in the south side on 47th street. I was coming from Navy Pier, so it took about 45 mins to get there. The map is SO NOT to scale. But I was dawdling since I was taking in scenery and stuff. Anyway, I get to 47th street, and it starts to go from nice to a little ghetto. So I'm all by myself in a dorky helmet and rented bike and I knew I was a bit out of place. I never got to reach the house, but I got close. So I turned around and headed back to the pier to return the bike. When I returned, I told one of the workers about what I did, and he said that it does look kinda gritty, but once you get past that (which apparently isn't that much of a ride), you get into the University of Chicago campus, and it's super nice. By the way, when they say the minimum is 2 hours, that means if you return it in less than 2 hours, then they'll still charge you for 2 hours. Plus tax. FYI: the price for half day rental is 3x the hourly rate. This is a great way to spend a good weather day however, and the map they give you is really helpful. Helmet is free and there's a little pouch on the bike that'll fit oversized water bottles. Stop by some of the food stands for quick, but relatively overpriced grub. Along lakeshore drive, you'll see a bunch of joggers, cyclists, and even rollerbladers. The only reason why I docked it a star is because the map takes you to the small ghetto part on the map. But overall, it was a good experience! read more

The good: Nice bike and they're covered for half a day rental with the Chicago Go Card. We had a great bike ride to the south and to the north along a mostly car-free path. The bad: The workers here have been abducted by aliens who have taken their souls and left only empty vessels to run the place. They weren't exactly rude so much as just completely uncaring and inattentive to what was going on around them. I stood for five minutes at the cashier stand before the person behind the booth asked with surprise if I was there to rent a bike (what did she think I was there for?). The people who bring out the bikes don't offer any tips on where to ride unless you ask them and then you can expect one word responses. They do hand you a pamphlet with a map to read but if you're looking for first hand advice from locals it's not easy to get it here. When I returned the bike the same cashier had a hard time printing the receipt and the return took about ten minutes longer than it should of all the while she didn't tell me what was going on, just grunting occasionally. There's nothing wrong with the bikes once you get them. However, I can't help regretting that I gave this business my money for the kind of customer service they offered. If there's another place to rent bikes from, do it. However, if there's no place else, suck it up and go here. The bike ride is nice. read more

We will NEVER rent from you again. Had reservations booked for 11am. You guys didn't have the proper equipment prepared, so we waited an hour to get our equipment. Then the bike was extremely hard to pedal with the kids wagon behind, and we couldn't figure out why. Turns out the bike had a flat tire. Over 2 miles away from your closest facility and your company tells us the only option is to WALK the bikes back with 3 young kids. Complete and utter ridiculousness. We have now wasted close to 3 hours waiting for equipment to be ready, and now having to walk our young kids back to drop off the bikes. Now, we are unable to do most of what we had drove out here for. I am beyond livid at your terrible customer service. We will be disputing the charges and plan to share with everyone we know to never rent from this company. ETA - they did refund our money, which I appreciate, but now at 9:30 at night I'm getting phone calls telling us we didn't return our bikes. Well, we did, but we dropped them off at the navy pier location because we weren't walking another mile with 3 young kids. So now their employees are telling us we will be charged a fee for returning at a different location. Never again will i rent from here. What terrible service. read more

Overall, got the job done and had a good time! Great for tourists and Chicagoans alike, looking for a new way to explore the city. Rating would be higher if the bike seats or pedals were adjustable (see below). The pros: * We rode a 6-person quadcycle with 2 kids (ages 5 and 8), and it was unique, fun, hilarious, and adventurous. * The 5-year-old loved being in the front sitting area. The 8-year-old wanted to pedal but was too short, so sat in-between two adults in the middle bench and was in charge of the brake. * Fun way to see parts of Chicago and * Staff was friendly, and it was easy to situated on the bike. * More sturdy bike than any other bike rental place at Navy Pier. Our came with a canopy that was not guaranteed at other rental places. The cons: * Seats and pedals were one-size-fits-all, so I had to scoot on the front of my bike seat to reach the pedals (I'm 5'4") and kept banging my knee on the metal bars of the bench in front of me. Definitely bruising and a swollen knee. * The large quadcycle can only go north on the Lakeshore trail. Half of this ride was on the very steep part of Lakeshort, so we felt as though we would tip over - and had a difficult time pedaling. * No refunds, which was fine for us. * The canopy was really nice, though it did not extend to the kid sitting area, so it was very hot for the 5-year-old. read more

Go to a place that cares. They told me their associate probably made a mistake, saying "That sounds like something she would do." Maybe she needs to be trained? And maybe the customer should not have to pay for the mistakes of the business? Not pleased with the customer service here. I was signed up for a used bike sale, had selected my bike and waited until the end of the season to pick it up. They told me they had double sold some of the bikes, and did nothing to remedy the situation. The worst part was offering to sell me a new model of the same bike for much more than I was going to buy the used model for. If I wanted to pay a lot for a new bike, I would be buying one from a retailer, not a used bike sale. Horrible customer service. We rented a large quadcycle for 4 on a rather blustery day. However, we still managed to have fun and bike alongside the lake front to past Oak Street Beach and back. The service was good, and rates are reasonable ($35 for an hour for 4 ppl). The only downside was that the quadcycle was actually pretty hard to control since it was huge and pedaling for4 is such a work out - especially if not everyone's pulling their weight. I want to go back in the summer to rent a real bike or a tandem bike and be able to enjoy it in nice weather. They also have Bike Chicago locations at N. Ave beach and Foster beach, but only offer the large quadcycles (fits up to 6 adults) at Navy Pier. read more

I am not going back here. The staff are rude. My rental bike's chain broke off and they said they are sending help. After an hour of waiting they said, they cannot send anyone. They never gave me any locks so I couldn't just lock the bike and leave. They told me to take the train or bus and bring along the bike to the Navy Pier location but never offered any help with what train or bus to catch. I was stuck about 8 miles away from Navy Pier. Luckily, I was able to get uber who was able to load up their rental bike. When I got to the Navy Pier location, they said they are going to charge me for the broken bike chain because I did not get insurance for repair/damage on the bike. "Did you even read the rental contract" the lady asked rudely. I threatened to call the cops because I was never offered damage insurance and the lady on the phone 3127291000 mellowed down a bit after I said that. They then said they will charge me for the extra 2 hours that it took me to bring their bike back. This is the time that I was not enjoying riding their bike. I am never doing business with them and would discourage others from doing business with them. Just because they monopolize bike rental location on Navy Pier and other locations, doesn't mean we have to rent bikes from them. Their bikes seem in very poor condition as well. read more

Had a horrible experience at Bike and Roll. They have poorly maintained bikes that broke down on me an hour away from their location. I called them and the said I will need to easier take the train or bus back and bring the bike back to them. They said they do not have any maintenance person on board. After running of all options m, I had to hire a pick up truck, load their bike in the back and drive to their location. They still charged me for all the hours that I was gone. Just an incredible time, and great to get some beautiful views, and to learn more about the history. Peter was phenomenal...really knowledgeable about Chicago, and super friendly. I was nervous that my Parents would have difficulties with the Segway, but Peter did an amazing job teaching them how to use it, and it was as smooth sailing throughout the trip. My husband and I had an amazing segway tour on July 20 and our tour guide - Manny was AMAZING! He was so much fun, and a great instructor and very knowledgeable about Chicago! Manny made sure our group was trained well on the Segway before we hit trail. The sunset tour was spectacular and beautiful and a great way to learn more about the landmarks of Chicago. This is one thing you definitely must do in Chicago. This place rents out bikes on very reasonable rates. Its tons of fun riding along the lakefront on the bikes and there's acually lots of trails you can follow as well. Its really different from walking or driving through the city. We obviously hit the jackpot.....our guide was perfect for us, he and my husband both being musicians. His name is Justin Adair and he takes great pride in his work and is such an easy person to spend the day with. We were with him for around three ish hours, he picked up on what we were interested in and ran with it, nice! We are also very fit so we were able to cover a lot of ground with him. He is an extremely talented singer as well! He sang in the tunnels to show us the acoustics, yes he can sing. I highly recommend the tour and Justin, I can't speak for anyone else there, I think the guide is what makes the tour, along with a curious visitor.
