The Honolulu Rainforest Ride was an awesome e-bike tour! Our guide Makai picked us up. He provided us with helmets, water, snacks, rain ponchos, and fanny packs to store our valuables. He took us to a small park at the bottom of the hill where he explained how the e-bike worked and made sure we were comfortable with it. We started uphill. The bike is amazing and is pedal-assist with 4 settings. It does all the work for you as you pedal up the hill. We made many stops along the way. Makai was super knowledgeable about the flora and the historical sites around the area. We even saw a peacock! The views are magnificent! After we got to the top of the hill we turned around and coasted all the way down the hill! Scary but exhilarating! When we returned to the truck, Makai gave us waters and snacks. We will definitely do this again. It was the highlight of our trip! read more

I had a free morning during my trip to Honolulu and for some crazy reason I thought it'd be cool to fill that time with a hike. Turns out I was right. I booked Bike Hawaii through my hotel concierge so I'm guessing you can book them through lots of hotels. They have a really wide variety of trips you can take - rain forest hikes, sailing, mountain bike tours, and snorkeling were a few I saw. They last anywhere between 3 hours and all day so you can pick whatever works with your schedule. On the day I went our guide was Jeremy and he was pretty rad. He showed us tons of cool flora as well as animal tracks along our hike and had a lot of interesting facts for anything we asked about. The company itself owns private acres of land, which is nice because when you're out there hiking it's just the people that you're with rather than hundreds and hundreds of tourists. And they provide you with water, trail mix and wellies to hike in the mud so your own sneakers don't get too dirty. I would definitely use them again on a return trip. Perhaps next time I'll have enough room in my schedule for the mountain biking! read more

Despite stormy weather, Bike Hawaii provided a great time and organizational skills and expertise that brought my group seamlessly through an all-day "tourist trifecta" of rainforest hike, downhill bike ride, and snorkeling experience. The guide was unfailingly polite and worked well with everyone on the tour. I was especially pleased that to find that he was incredibly knowledgeable about Hawaii's history and ecology, with an especially deep trove of fun facts about Oahu's plant and animal life. The snorkeling was the clear highlight as I was treated sea turtles surfacing a mere arm's length away. I always felt safe and well-cared for, and the whole day was appropriate for both the oldest and youngest members of our tour group. Be sure to tip well. Had a great time on the hike-bike-snorkel tour. Hiked a not-well-traveled route that was not too difficult but had enough challenge to make it adventurous and enjoyable. Then we drove to the up and had a breathtaking view of Honolulu and the ocean and ate lunch taking in the view. From there, they supplied bikes and helmets for a 90% downhill coasting ride. A warm tropical rain showered us for about 5 minutes, before emerging back into the sun with gorgeous views for the remainder of the ride. Then, we got back in the van and headed down to ala moana harbor where we got on captain Krash's boat and headed out to the water. They provided the snorkeling gear, and we saw fish, large and smaller turtles, sea urchins, an octopus and starfish and got to explore the reef. Heading back to the harbor, we saw a rainbow over Waikiki and had a laugh at Krash's dog, Sushi, wearing a shark costume. I definitely recommend the hike/bike/snorkel if you'd like an active day and seeing a lot at once. read more

Excellent experience. We booked through Expedia but recommend you book directly on the Bike Hawaii Tours to ensure you fully support the local team there. Also, John was super gracious. I booked the wrong day, and he corrected my booking for me even though I didn't book directly through his site. The pick-up was seamless, just two blocks from our hotel. The most exciting part was doing something locally, taking in the scenery, and being entertained the whole way. Lots of laughs and an opportunity to learn more about the island. Enjoyed the activities very much. The Manoa hike was beautiful and a little more strenuous than expected (I would call it medium difficulty for someone who exercises a couple times a week), but our tour guide, Elikah, was very aggressive and had little patience for slowing down for pictures or stopping. Lunch was minimal with half a sandwich, chips, fruit snacks, and water, but it was welcome after the hike! The biking portion of the trip was absolutely incredible and I'd do it 1,000 more times. Elikah again was a little like a drill sergeant and made that portion more stressful than necessary. Overall, I'd have given the trip 4 stars if it wasn't for the very small lunch and the aggressive tour guide. She seemed like a nice person, maybe just not relaxed enough to guide people on vacation. read more

For my Bday I went on a guided Mountain Biking ride to the Maunawili Valley with the Ko`olau Mountain cliffs and ocean as my backdrop. It was incredible! My guide was the owner John who was absolutely amazing....very professional, fun, experienced in riding, and an all around good guy! John asked about what type of riding I do, experience level, and what I wanted to get out of the experience. Based on my feedback we decided to ride a cross country semi technical flowy fun single track trail. I had an absolute blast and would highly recommend going and experiencing this for yourself. We had a great time biking downhill. On the way to the starting spot we stopped for lunch at a beautiful lookout. Lunch was great and the view was incredible. The only downside was after the ride was over, we had to sit and wait almost 45 minutes while the staff packed up and loaded the bikes. It would have been better if there was someone there to take us back to Waikiki instead. Also, expedia advertised that the tour was in the morning and when I called to confirm with the company I was told it was an afternoon tour. This review is for the the 100% Dirt Mountain Biking in Kaaawa Valley, but could be used for any of the tours the company offers, I suspect. From the owner to the guides that I met on the van ride out to the tour spot, CUSTOMER SERVICE WAS TOP NOTCH. All were well-informed, fun, and safe, particularly our guide, Jeremy. I had called ahead to see about the intensity of the ride, as I was looking for a strenuous ride. John, the owner, called back quickly and explained that the ride would be dependent on the group's ability, but that there would also be sections to ride at your own pace. We happened to have a solid group of riders, so it flowed well. No, it wasn't an epic ride, but I was reminded that not every ride has to blow my mind. Jeremy's fun facts and lore about the Kaaawa Valley and Hawaiian culture, the beauty of the terrain, and riding with other MTB-ing enthusiasts was reward enough. Another shout out to Jeremy for taking the time to tell me about some of the better places to ride on O'ahu. This combined with the book the owner wrote, "Mountain Biking the Hawaiian Islands," led to the epic rides I was in search of. Keep up the great work, guys! Mahalo! read more

Mountain bike (dirt bike) adventure: Breathtaking scenery, okay biking. Signed up for a Wednesday morning bike tour (10% off for booking online) with a co-worker, as it's the only mountain bike tour on the island. Was picked up promptly via air-conditioned van and shuttled to the north side of Oahu to the Kualoa Ranch, where we were the rare English-speaking folks in a sea of Japanese tourists. Rental bikes were well-built Kona hardtails with 2x9 drivetrains (big ring disabled) and hydraulic disc brakes. Helmets were clean. Mathias, our guide, was happy to install my old-school ATAC peddles, and off we went, past the cow farm that is Kualoa into the valley below. Sights included WWII-era bunkers and installations, as well as sets and settings from Lost, Journey2, Jurassic Park, and Godzilla. The new Hawaii 5-0 was filming, but sadly disappeared by the time we climbed to their location. Bike trail was rather untechnical, with no more than 2-3 minute sustained climbs at any given time. As several of our co-adventurees were clearly MTB novices, there were frequent stops to wait until they caught up. Fortunately, the whole valley was fair game (grass grows quickly in Hawaii!), and the side game of climbing hills and playing cow poo slalom was rather engaging. But seriously, there was a ton of cow shit everywhere (as this is an active beef ranch). Definitely a high point of this Hawaii trip. The only way the trip would have been improved would have been to improve the co-adventurers to speed/spice things up. Maybe they'll do a private group if enough people sign up? read more

Went on the mountain bike tour which takes place on the Kualoa ranch in the Ka'a'awa Valley. We met the van at the kualoa ranch house, and hopped in. They had all the bikes strapped to the top of the roof. We stopped by a WWII bunker with some movie information inside on the way, which was a nice 'tourist' attraction to check out before we started the ride. The bikes were decent Kona ones, the derailers could have been adjusted a little better. The bikes were used, but not too beat. He gave us each 2 bottled waters, and a pack of trail mix (good idea) and a little fanny pack to hold the water. We started off by riding up a dirt road up the valley. The guide let us ride off the road as much as we wanted just in the grass, etc. We got to see a few spots that movies were filmed, which was cool. The road wasn't super smooth, a little rough so it wasn't too boring. The views of the valley were beautiful. Once we hit the top, you round back and start heading back down the valley. On the way down, we veered off on a single track trail that was pretty cool. It could use a little maintenance though. It was more fun than the dirt road though. We basically road the single track back to the van, parked at the entrance of the valley. Once reaching the van, we had lunch (chips, drinks, sandwhiches, cookies). They set you up pretty good under a nice little awning for lunch. After lunch we took off. Overall, a great trip, a nice way to see the Kualoa ranch and valley were all the big movies were filmed. Friendly guide (Jeremey). I think this was better than the horse / atv tour, but then again I like bikes. It was a decent workout. If you are lookin to do some riding, its worth checking out. We paid 125/each, I think it could have been 80-90 though. read more

My wife and I went on our honeymoon to Oahu. We went on the dirt mountain bike ride. The guide was great and the ride was wonderful. We had sun and rain and rode all over the Kaaawa Valley. We did the bike and hike on a recent visit and it was great. The tour guides (Jeremy & Matisse) were great, friendly and informative. The bike was pretty straight forward. You start at the top of Mt. Tantalus and ride down. We did a little lunch and went over to the private tract of land for the hike. While on the hike, someone in another party slipped and broke an ankle. I'd like to say "unfortunately," but witnessing the helicopter rescue that ensued was awesome. So, I appreciate her sacrifice to TOTALLY make our whole trip. Anyway, wear good shoes, because the trail isn't a paved path through a park for sure. And, they're probably really five stars or at least four and a half. I just felt like I needed to bring it down a star because I didn't want my helicopter rescue skewing my review to the high side. Nonetheless, if I did another tour in Hawaii, THIS is the company I would call without hesitation. read more

Took the exclusive waterfall tour with Bike Hawaii. Great tour on exclusive property not a tourist trail. They advertise mild to moderate hike. Compared to a tourist trail there was nothing mild about the hike. That being said wife and I hike occasionally and for even casual hikers the trail should be no problem. But I wouldn't advise this for small children or someone who has any balance or mobility issues. The trail will be muddy and depending on the amount of rain it could be very muddy. While it is located near Wakiki it is a different micro climate and gets a lot of rain and it could rain while you are on your hike. Bike Hawaii does provide mud boots and ponchos. Make sure you specify a shoe size if you are going to use their boots also wear long socks as recommended. Bring some dry socks and if you are going to wear your own shoes ir hiking boots bring a change of shoes as well. Our guide Patrick was great. He did a good job of being informative without constantly jabbering on. The view is amazing and this is a very exclusive area. Note you take a slightly different route going back down the trail through a bamboo forest so take your time to get photos on the way up. If you like nature and off the beaten path trails this is an excellent tour. If you want something a little less strenuous and/or good for small children, this may not be the adventure for you. read more

This was the highlight of our weeklong stay on Oahu! None of the 4 of us (wife, two teenage boys) are mountain bikers, and all of us had a fantastic time! The pace/terrain was moderate to challenging at times, but not out of our league. The scenery was to die for. It felt like we were biking back through time. Jeremy was a fantastic guide. From the moment he picked us up, through the entire tour and back into Honolulu, he made us feel relaxed and well taken care of. We went on the bike tour, it's seriously lame - only reason why I didn't give a 1 star was because of the guide who was very knowledgeable and friendly. The actual bike time is less than 30 minutes even though it says i3 hours. Most of the time is spent loading and offloading and eating lunch. There are better things to do on the island. read more

Did the bike and hike tour while on vacation and was easily a highlight of our trip! Jeremy was very knowledgeable of the surroundings and pointed out all the hot spots. The bike tour was a lot of fun, you start at the top of some residential mountain and swiftly go through it. Took approx 30-45 min go through it all and stopped a few times to take some awesome shots of Honolulu and Diamond Head. The hike tour is a little bit challenging for a beginner like myself, these aren't paved roads and you're literally in the rain forest, going over mud, vines, trees, etc. Just be sure to wear hiking boots or the boots they provide you or else you might slip. Once you reach the top, you're greeted with a true Hawaiian waterfall! Unfortunately, it hasn't rained when I was there, so the waterfall was more like faucet drip. But the hike back down through the bamboo forest made up for it. While hiking through the bamboo forest, it goes from sunny to dark and gets a little creepy. Other than that, very cool. Very good tour and would definitely do this again, next time will include the kayaking part of it. Only gave it 4 out of 5 stars because the lunch was a little weak. Half a sandwich? C'mon man! I'm bringing my own next time. Besides that, well worth the time and money. read more

My boyfriend and I went on the East Oahu Explorer tour with Mike. What a great experience! We were the only two on the tour and Mike really made the whole day interesting and fun. I learned tons about the island and I won't forget because Mike made sure to quiz us - which was fun and a great way to remember information to share in the future. The day we went was my birthday and Mike even sang me happy birthday! We went to a secluded and amazing lookout point that is beyond explanation. Recently, my husband and I enjoyed a week on Oahu with our adult children and their spouses. Wanting to do as much as we could for the short week we were there, we decided to spend one of the days (Oct. 18, 18) with the Hike, Bike, Sail and Snorkel adventure. The day far exceeded our expectations and created some lasting memories. The hike into the rainforest was awesome and just the right amount of challenging. Our guide was friendly, knowledgeable and just plain fun to be around. Fortunately, hiking sticks and insect repellent were provided. We waded at the base of the waterfall at the top which was beautiful and refreshing! The downhill bike ride was great fun and provided many beautiful vistas. When I found out that the snorkeling was going to be at Turtle Canyon I was stoked because our outrigger guide, just the day before, had said that was one of the best places to observe sea turtles. Our snorkel guide was also a PHD (almost) in marine biology, and he was able to dive down and bring up close a few really awesome sea creatures. I think it's safe to say that we would all do it again when the opportunity presents itself. Big thumbs UP!! read more

We took the Hike, Kayak and Snorkel tour at the end of June and quite enjoyed ourselves. Our guide was very knowledgeable and laid back, nice and calm. The hiking part was short but had a magnificent view of the bay below. Then our group of six paddled out to Chinaman's Hat was in doubles and hung out for a while, enjoying the views and some snacks. The place was not the best for snorkeling but the water was nice and warm. Took a short walk also around the island to see some tide pools, which was really interesting. This was easily one of the best things to do in Oahu. Jeremy, our guide, was the best. We went on the hike, bike sail/snorkel adventure. The hike was in the rainforest and Jeremy gave us all kinds of information about the different fruits and vegetation that was around us. We stopped at a waterfall and went through this bamboo forest. The bike tour was 95% downhill so it wasn't any crazy stress peddling. The views were amazing when we stopped for lunch that they provided for us. The last leg of the tour was sailing and snorkeling. The captain of the boat was named Karl and he was great. They brought us out to a turtle reef and we all got in and sure enough there was a huge sea turtle on the surface. There were thousands of fish everywhere. If you are in the area I recommend you don't pass up the opportunity to hike bike and sail with Bike Hawaii and Jeremy. read more

This was one of the funnest outdoor experiences I've had while on Oahu! I did the Hike, Kayak, snorkel adventure at Kualoa. Terry was our guide. He told all about different plants and the Hawaiian culture and history all throughout the day. On the hike we were lucky and saw wild pigs!! Terry also was very helpful with taking our pictures, even shooting panoramic views!! We kayaked out to Chinamans Hat. That was a workout for me lol. Then we snorkeled out there and he had a nice deli lunch for us as well as ice cold drinks and water which I really appreciated. Kayaking back was an adventure. We caught a few small waves and got to surf with the kayak. I would recommend this to anyone wanting an adventure. You must get out of Waikiki to experience what nature has to offer on this island!
