We went on the 3 pm whale watching trip which lasts about an hour and a half. They leave from Kewalo Harbor which is on the west end of Ala Moana. They motor on a large catamaran to the spots where they expect to see humpback whales. They also rely on reports from other whale watching companies to find the spots. We saw around 8 whales (backs and tails). No breaches. If you don't see any whales, they give you one free return trip. This month (February) is supposed to be within the season for the humpbacks. They provide free drinks which includes adult beverages. This is a pretty laid back trip which I enjoyed. There really isn't any educational aspect offered up. Friendly crew and fellow passengers. Gorgeous afternoon on the South Shore.

What a fantastic day! We went on the midday turtle cruise and had THE BEST TIME! It was Joey's first official cruise and Nick jumped in the water with us to snorkel! We had the best day - another tour provider cancelled on us and the concierge at the Ritz Carlton Residences recommended this one. Joey, Doug, Andrea and Nick did a fantastic job! We saw turtles and the boat was very clean and we always felt safe. Thanks all! We will book again next week when we are back in Waikiki!

Views of Waikiki and diamond head from the boat! A beautiful clear day

Amazing experience, incredible crew! Loved the Saturday morning bagels and coffee whale watching. Delicious local items and a beautiful sail!

I loved this sunset cruise! The food was amazing! The drinks were strong! The experience was priceless and the views were breathtaking! FYI: * You will have to remove your shoes and place them in a tube ( or bring a bag like we did and place them inside that) * Before you find seat there will be a safety briefing on the front area of the boat. * You should arrive early even if you are waiting right out of the gate area. This way you can have better position to get to an area you want to sit on the boat. * BRING A BLANKET AND/OR TOWEL!! Especially if you sit on the back of the boat or you are seating on the side of the boat. You will get wet and you will be cold and wet for the rest of the trip! You can never go wrong having it and not needing it then needing it and NOT HAVING IT ! * Be prepared for some of the best views you've ever seen! I brought a selfie stick and so glad I did! There will be amazing music to jam to as well.. * DO NOT SEAT ON THE BACK OF THE BOAT IF YOU GET MOTION SICKNESS . YOU WILL FEEL EVERY WAVE ! I loved it! But I know many don't so be careful. Overall I recommend this sunset cruise. We will definitely be back. It's a Must!

Seeing Dolphins on the cruise was awesome.

My kids love this snorkeling cruise. They have been on it twice and both times have enjoyed the staff. I booked the reservation and the reservation staff was amazing. Thoroughly a great experience all the way around. My daughter and mom loved the wraps too.

We went on a guided, morning turtle snorkel with Hawaii Nautical. The snorkel guide Whitney was extremely nice and very easy to talk to. I was hesitant to get in the water due to my poor vision and she let me know they had prescription goggles!!!! While it was not my exact prescription it helped tremendously!!!! Clay and Captain Flynn were also very nice. Although we only got to see one turtle the trip out was very nice and I would highly recommend Hawaii Nautical Waikiki to anyone!

    Kind of a whale sighting

Absolutely loved this excursion . It was so efficient and the crew could not have been friendlier or more helpful. Our crew was Flynn, (theCaptain,) and Andrea and Nick. They were so nice and anticipated our every need by giving us information about whales, pointing out whales, (blow holes,) taking photos for us, and most importantly.....serving us drinks! We were on an early morning whale watch cruise and didn't even know about a bar; let alone an open bar. It was open immediately because the crew informed us " it's 5 o'clock somewhere!" They had a few kinds of beer and an assortment of liquors. I had some delicious Kona Big Waves, my husband and friends had bloody Marys and screwdrivers. Andrea would actually get us drinks and bring them up to us so we wouldn't have to carry them on the rocky boat. Our cruise was fun and a little wavy. (Which I liked) The boat was only about 1/2 full so we weren't crammed in like sardines. Weather was perfect and we had a few blowhole sightings but no actual whale sightings. They gave us a voucher for another free cruise since we didn't really see whales. (Not sure if we'll be able to use it though.) Everyone enjoyed the cruise. Smooth sailing! Highly recommend!

Booked snorkeling with turtles 3 days ago. The captain and his crew were friendly and have a great vibe. We saw whales and many turtles. My family had an exciting time, highly recommended

    Waikiki skyline just after sunset

My wife of 41 great years and I wanted to watch the Friday Fireworks from the ocean, and Hawaii Nautical was able to meet our goal. We had a great time on the catamaran watching the Waikiki shore line go by as the sun had already set allowing us to photograph a great night sky line. The amount of time was just right to cruise around the harbor and see the view of the fireworks from the Hilton Hawaiian proved to be the pinnacle of our cruise experience. The crew was so polite and helpful in making sure we had a great time. The food was a nice box meal along with plenty to drink. We would definitely recommend this excursion for anyone wanting to have a unique experience in Hawaii.

My family and I went on a turtle snorkel and sail and had an amazing time! The boat was extremely clean and the crew, Joey, Andrea, and Nick were amazing, super knowledgeable, and extremely friendly! Seeing all of the fishes and turtles were really cool and I would highly recommend Hawaii Nautical to any local and visitor!

Ask the Community - Hawaii Nautical - Waikiki

Are snorkeling gears provided for the Snorkeling Tour or have to purchase separately?

It says they provide fins and vests. You have to bring goggles and snorkel.

Does the inflatable snorkel safety vest work for a non-swimmer for the turtle snorkeling sail? Or would it be recommended to buy our own life jacket instead? Thank you

Yes, it works. In addition the salt water helps keep you afloat. Even for swimmers it's a nice addition - if they get tired they can just stop and relax and the snorkel vest keeps them afloat. And lastly, there will be a crew member in the water…

Being the first boat out in the morning makes a huge difference. The ocean was calm, conditions were excellent, and we weren't surrounded by multiple tour boats. For long stretches it genuinely felt like we had the reef to ourselves. Sam and Ella were in-cred-ible. Professional, knowledgeable, and very clearly people who love what they do. They struck the perfect balance of being attentive while still letting everyone enjoy the experience naturally. We felt extremely safe the entire time, and they were just genuinely joyful humans to spend the morning with. And I have to mention the turtles. We saw at least eight. Not just in the distance-- they were everywhere. Below us in the reef, gliding past us at the surface, popping up for air unexpectedly. At one point we were actively looking around just to make sure we weren't about to bump into one. Also...calling them "little" would be inaccurate. Some of these turtles were big-- absolutely stunning animals. Swimming alongside them, surrounded by hundreds of reef fish, was one of those rare travel moments that sticks with you. A core memory, without question. -- San Diego

You can drive, take a taxi, bus or Uber, or the Prince Kuhio staff can arrange pickup and drop off for you at an additional cost. There is plenty of paid parking at the harbor. Service 5: Super nice and friendly staff, all the way from the reception team to the photographer, the servers, the bartender, the chef and the captain. Ambiance 5: The enthusiasm of the staff rubs off on the guests. It is a happy gathering with breathtaking views. We took the Friday night dinner-cruise which lasted longer (and was more costly) so that we could enjoy the Hilton Hawaiian Village fireworks. The ship 3: The Prince Kuhio was first commissioned in 1984 as a passenger ferry. In 2020, she became part of the Prince Kuhio Tours family and was converted for use in scenic dining cruises. It can accommodate up to 138 passengers with plenty of outdoor and indoor space for dining, cocktails, and sightseeing. The upper, open deck where we sat, has 2 person and 4 person tables with all bench seats facing forward. The set up is optimized for sightseeing which is great. Viewing-wise, every seat is a good seat. Accommodation-wise, the setup is simple and not really fine-dining; hard seats with no cushioning, no tablecloths or cloth napkins, no metal silverware and no glassware. There is a bar facing the dining tables which at the time of our visit in August 2025 only served soft drinks and non-alcoholic mixers. For some undisclosed reason no alcohol was being sold on board but guests were encouraged to bring their own, which we did! Not sure if this is a long-term situation or temporary. The alcohol situation is not clearly stated on their website so if you plan to be drinking you might want to inquire ahead of time whether you should bring your own. The lower deck is enclosed and views are limited compared to the upper deck. The admission price for the lower deck is a little less ($115 vs. $132 at the time of our visit). The restrooms are aft on the lower deck. Again pretty basic. Boarding and seating 3: We got there plenty of time ahead of the scheduled boarding but there was already a long line outside. There was very little supervision. The line was disorganized and people were cutting in and jumping the line. We were greeted cheerfully at the entrance, checked in, and photographed for a separately-sold souvenir photo. Although we had paid for upper deck seating as a family of four, by the time we got there all tables were taken. Again there was no supervision by the staff and it was kind of a "free for all". We had to personally negotiate with the other guests (who had spread out over multiple tables) to secure a 4-seat table. This was a little chaotic and unexpected. Food 4: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner have different menus. We had taken the Sunset Dinner Cruise. Dinner included a garden salad, an entrée and a dessert (cheesecake). For the entrée, you are limited to Fish (Catch of the Day) or Beef Short Ribs. We all had the fish and it was delicious and nicely plated. Given the amount of people that they feed in as short as a time, I do not know how they do it but it came out really well. We met the chef who was going around and meeting the guests after the dinner was served, and he told us that everything is done fresh and on premises in real time. Hats off to the chef and the staff! Drinks 3: As mentioned earlier, they only served soft drinks and mixers at the time of our visit in August 2025. No alcohol was sold on board but patrons were encouraged to bring their own. Suggest you check ahead of time with Prince Kuhio Tours whether this is still the situation. The Last Word 4: The breathtaking views, the friendly crew and the delicious (albeit limited in options) food offerings elevate this experience to a solid 4. I wish they could do better with the boarding process and the seating arrangements. Overall a great experience!

Service: Alex was so kind and attentive. My son got sea sick and she packed his food, gave me barf bags and a towel. She showed a spot where it was less rocky. She was lovely interacting with the children. Showed them all she decorated. Ambience: very chill vibe, clean bathrooms, Desiree was a cool bartender making everyone comfortable. It was very fun experience for our family. We got great pictures with Diamond head and the sunset. Captain was kind to take pictures while steering the ship. Loved it and will do again when Oahu!
