I attended a 12:30 PM class at this studio and informed the instructor beforehand that it was my first time and that I had no prior experience. The class was clearly designed for advanced students (about 5 people), yet no adjustments were made for beginners. Throughout the class, the instructor repeatedly called me out in a rude and humiliating way, making comments like "breathe through your nose -- look in the mirror if you forgot where it is," "don't sit down," "don't wipe your face," and "don't waste energy." After twisting my ankle and receiving over 20 unnecessary remarks, I quietly left the studio. This was the worst yoga experience I've ever had. I do not recommend this instructor or this class. read more

I've been going to this Bikram studio in Encino since 2017 and this practice has changed my life. It's one of the only authentically Bikram studios around, and you can really feel the difference. All of the instructors are great in their own way, super knowledgeable, encouraging, and they each bring something a little different to class. You'll definitely grow your practice if you stick with it. The studio is clean, easy to get to, and yes,the room gets HOT (as it should). They offer mats and towels for rent, but I'd recommend bringing your own. Parking is behind the building, and you'll head up a flight of stairs to get to the studio. It's easily accessible from the parking area. If you see the large white sign that says "Bikram Yoga," you've found it. Do NOT ATTEND if POOJA is teaching. Never in the 7 years going here have I felt so harassed. Not even when Danny was an instructor and I know he could be a tad bit touchy but not make you feel uncomfortable like this old lady did. I get it help us with posture but not smack our ass and touch our feet so awkwardly! One girl she asked could I help you? She said no twice! Pooja said oh well I'll still help you laughing. That was not funny I hold my breathe because I didn't want us to have a bad class. Then we proceed to pay because for some reason when you buy the 10 classes they do expire! And it's never happened in the past when I have got them. She creams at me and tells me to calm down when I'm trying to explain to her that I should have left over classes. Rajashree, I have an important suggestion for your Encino Bikram Yoga location that will make it much better for your students and your bottom line - please make the studio nicer by remodeling it. This location is old and beat up. If you look at other hot yoga studios that are nicer and have beautiful interiors and that's why they are much busier. This location is off because it only has one small old shower, it doesn't have a bathroom you have to go outside to use a shared bathroom which is inconvenient. If you're going to be paying $200 a month to attend a hot yoga studio it better look and feel amazing. Your competitors know this and are killing it. They charge $200 but you get a beautiful clean locker room with all of the amenities like mats and towels provided. Who wants to drag their wet stinky mat with them in their car? It's inconvenient. The nicest cleanest Bikram Studio I have ever attended was Bikram Yoga Irvine. It was a level 10. The Encino Bikram is a level 5. Please update it soon or please move it to a better location. I just wanted to share my experience, in case it would be useful to others: near the end of class I left the yoga room quietly, without disturbing anyone. The instructor made a huge scene of it, like "where do you think you're going?!". She came out after me to tell me how it was not normal and against the rules, to which I nodded politely. Few minutes later she stopped me again as I was trying to walk out to leave. At this point I couldn't really keep quiet anymore, so I let her know that I paid for the class and it was my body and my time and if I wanted to leave and did it quietly she needed to respect that. And guess what? The next day the owner called me to tell me I should take my business elsewhere. read more

New to Bikram yoga and this studio but have done many yoga classes. The studio did not smell fresh which I could understand because of the heat but my main issue was with the instructor. I did not catch his name, tall white guy with both nipples pierced. He came off very snooty and sarcastic, but that wasn't my complaint. He spoke so fast that it was impossible for a new student to contemplate what he was saying. At some point you look at the person in front of you to have an idea what position you are suppose to be in. After a long week of work you want to hear a slow soothing voice guiding you through the positions. I couldn't take it anymore and 20 mins into it I had to leave. Of course with his continues sarcasm he had to throw an extra comment as I was leaving, "that this is a lot harder than the gym". Obviously, I will never be back! read more

I would give 5 stars, but Bryan has to be one of the most condescending people I've met. I was 3 minutes late, when he asked about who called to make sure they were there, I didn't hear him initially, when I did I told him it was me; he said "why didn't you answer, don't be scared" as if I should be scared of him? Okay? lol so I explained I wasn't scared, I just didn't hear him. Either me being late or my response to his remark really hurt his ego lol, because later during class he kept making unnecessary comments. I felt like I almost passed out so I drank some water during a pose, he made sure to mention how that wasn't proper etiquette; making your students feel uncomfortable by making those comments creates more of a distraction than a student who's feeling sick reaching for some water. Later I was feeling very light headed and hot, so I stood in a different area that felt cooler, immediately he asked "what are you doing?" with a very rude tone of voice. I told him I needed to cool down, and he said "well, this area isn't any cooler" a total bully to say the least. I kept my cool, I didn't allow that to ruin my session, but I think he needs to know how his behavior can really drive people to not want to go anymore. I will not stop going just because of him, but I'll definitely avoid going to his classes. read more

I love Bikram Yoga but unfortunately I was not a fan of a few instructors at this studio who teach the majority of classes. They seemed to be more concerned about how you look/dress and will call you out during the class. I wore fitted shorts and loose tanks but it wasn't good enough for them. I've been to other yoga studios who care more about your posture than what you wear. Sandi and Nick were the only two instructors I felt comfortable with and learned more with. I don't think you could put a price on Bikram Yoga but you could put a price on experience/service, and this place is NOT worth it! read more

The studio is very clean, well managed and has caring knowledgeable instructors. Each instructor has their own style of dialogue. But all have basic Bikram yoga instructions that is helpful during one's practice. The classes are small enough size so the instructors can pay attention to correcting postures if not done correctly. The instructors care deeply about the students abilities to master the foundation of the practice properly. Very impressed with their quality teaching and practice. Bikram Yoga Encino is a rare gem. I discovered Bikram hot yoga about two years ago from a friend who brought me along with her at this Encino location. I didn't pay attention when she told me what it was about. All I knew was that I was about to take a yoga class. Little did I know that it was a 90 minute long class of 26 poses perform in a room that is 105 degrees Fahrenheit and 55% humidity. I was pleasantly surprised to find that I actually liked the experience due partly to its novelty and spiritual and meditational quality and also losing a lot of water weight. They strictly only offer Bikram so the instructors are very well versed in giving specific instructions and very committed in promoting this form of yoga; it's short and long term benefits. It's only as beneficial as the amount of motivation and commitment you put into showing up and doing the poses. Once you have the determination to practice, this studio offers a wonderful opportunity for the serious person ready to take on the challenge. If you like variety meaning different modality of yoga this is not a place for you . But if you like consistency and perfecting one style of yoga and at the same time see the transformation your body goes through then this studio is perfect. It's a small studio with only one large room and one shower in the female and one in the make dressing room. That's the only down side. read more

If the poses are hard you can try to stop at a part of the pose. There isn't really a smell in the room and you can buy a mat, towel, and water if you didn't bring one. Chad is chill, during his session... his instructional demeanor reminded me of Squirt from Finding Nemo combined with the disclaimer voice in a medicine commercial. A surfer dude who can speak really fast.... Hahaha!!! The best part is when he says "Shavasana" Lol... I was dreading the smell from all the reviews, but it must've been resolved because it was stink free for me!!! In the room, it's not carpet, it's this nonskid mesh-material resembling thin ramen noodles. This place was so hard to find in the plaza, I can't describe it even to help you out. Even my friend who works in the same plaza couldn't help me find it for like 30 minutes. Once found, good thing Chad tried to teach me the breathing techniques beforehand because the breathing technique is what freaked me out!! He said that the breathing techniques are probably the toughest thing in the class and it was! The breathing techniques were not performed once or twice, it felt like a good 8-15 minutes. I thought the people around me were possessed because of the all the sounds they were making with their eyes rolled to the back of their heads. These people are intense, very advanced practice. I'm not at their level or anywhere near. I am extremely new to yoga, so this was an extreme culture shock to me. I started praying because I got sooooo scared. I have 9 out of 10 sessions left here. I'm still considering whether to use it or not. read more

This is the second birkam studio I've joined (very briefly might I add). Of course my cheap-o aka frugal aka economical self got a Groupon for unlimited 1 month trial. I last did Bikram in Studio City for 2 weeks, 3 years ago. There's some getting used to with the musky smell of the room, and the room is half the size of what I remember at the Studio City location. I did however, like the teachers here very much. They were very welcoming, explained themselves well, and were open to any questions, even one's like, "uh...what's the point of that breathing thing in the beginning." Yeah, i was THAT girl. I thought I had joined some religious meeting or a cult ritual the first time I went to Bikram years ago because of the breathing exercise at the beginning (sorry don't mean to offend but it was just my initial impression), but, no, it's not. I still have some trouble understanding the art of Birkam since I'm a newbie. What I gained though is that the meditative element is vital in the exercises. I noticed changes in my flexibility over the 4 weeks (of which I went about 3-4x/wk on average). Weight loss...zero. Maybe water weight for me, but seriously, you gotta eat right, and be consistent, and I don't think I was on some rigid diet plan or anything. Actually, it doesn't help that Yogurtland is right below. -_-; From a workout perspective, I personally prefer high intensity movements that come with kickboxing, zumba, or even weight classes, so it was difficult to get used to bikram. But I liked it as a supplement to my other workouts, as it's nice to stretch out the muscles while gently working them out. I definitely noticed heart rate increase depending on how hard I worked at each move, so it's really up to the individual. By all means, if i were to become a regular member, I'd go back to this place without a question. The instructors were great...I particularly liked Jason just because of his voice, and his pace, and I could somehow listen and keep up with what he was saying. Oh, and it was nice that he remembered almost everyone's names. Bonus points! :) read more

I assume Anna is the owner of the place. She was very rude and asked me 5 times if I did Bikram yoga before or not. And answering her once didn't seem to get there. I almost felt like being asked to not practice at the studio. If you are very hot and feeling dizzy you aren't allowed to take a sip of water until it works for the group. Say WHAT?! I've been practicing yoga for over a decade at a good number of studios no one had such nazi camp rules. Bikram, hatha, vinyasa or anything in between no one ever says don't drink water if you need to. No correction of postures but just sitting in the back and telling us what to do like a true dictator. Lady learn some manners. Yoga is about kindness and it's not just a word but a characteristics that implies certain behavior. VERY disappointed. She also made some fuss over using my Groupon. We'll before posting on Groupon learn the details so I don't feel like I'm doing something wrong by trying out your studio through Groupon. If I didn't have the 10 class pass I wouldn't go back here. But now I don't feel like dealing with refunds etc given I used it once. We'll just tolerate each other I guess for another 9 sessions. read more

So I recently purchased a groupon for this studio. Thankfully it was easy to use. The studio is clean and in a great location(lots of free parking). Obviously it is Bikram so the studio itself is hot but the waiting area and showers are great temperature and well maintained. The yoga schedule is awesome!!!!! They have classes starting at 6:45am going all the way to 8:15 pm. I have the craziest, most hectic schedule so the option of coming morning, noon, or night is the best. Seriously, the best schedule. I'm doing the 30 day yoga challenge. I'm on Day 8 so I've had four different teachers at this point. I actually like having multiple teachers. Each one has their own style and flow. Some more strict and dry and some have more bubbly personalities. It's a really good mix. They all are great with feedback which is great as well especially for those of us new to Bikram. At the end of the day we all want to improve and the instructors are good about promoting growth but also efficiency. I've learned so much about Bikram yoga in the last week, which again is awesome. I like to get educated on new things and I can ask all sorts of questions and get very knowledgeable answers. Last thing! They have towel rental, mat rental and water available all for $1 each. I've been going to this Bikram Yoga studio for 7 years. I've been to Bikram Tempe, Phoenix, Bikram Westlake Village, and Bikram headquarters and i like Bikram Encino the most. It's clean, quaint, and parking is easy. Instructors know most of the students on a first name basis and every instructor there has taken a personal interest in helping me accomplish my postures. Carpet is important for bikram for safety reasons; and I know for a fact that the carpet here is professionally cleaned as often as monthly. i think that the people who can't handle the smell are not used to a locker room/gym or other clean but sweaty environments. Besides, the humidity helps the postures. I highly recommend this studio for anyone who's interested in Bikram Yoga. read more

Their new rubber carpet is much more sanitary than the regular carpet and doesn't smell bad. Each instructor is uniquely different but all are nice and professional. If you're a first timer, they have introductory price for really cheap. Bring a yoga mat, one beach towel or yoga mat towel, one small towel for wiping sweat and water. This was definitely an experience. I enjoyed my experience when it came to the hotness of the room, the poses, and the people, however, the instructor talked SOOOOO FAST, I felt like I'm at an auction house. I was somewhat annoyed by that. Instead of feeling calm I rather felt rushed and couldn't concentrate. I have only been there once, but I had purchased a package of 10, so I'll be giving it another shot. If they were to slow down the talking and speak in a calmer, slower, guiding voice, I would give this place a 5 star, because everything else is great. read more

This is long overdue. There are 2 reasons I can't give this place 5 stars: the owner and one of the teachers. I've been an off and on bikram practitioner for years. I detox for a few weeks then I get bored and go back to other exercise programs. This studio is clean, welcoming, and quiet. I loved the teacher Charm and her gong! I took a class that the owner taught and was in pure hell. She happened to be next to me, and would stop in the middle of her instruction to come correct me, literally moving my foot an inch! This was constant! I know the poses, don't stop class to move me bitch. The good teachers would make a general announcement for everyone to check their alignment. She just threw me out of my concentration and I would hesitate to even go into a pose, god forbid my hand doesn't grip my whole foot. It sucked and I avoided her like a cold sore. The second teacher, can't think of his name now, was just a straight up asshole. I have weak ankles so I make adjustments, all the other teachers would just nod to me to go ahead, he would comment "I don't know what you're doing over there". I have only been one time - but I had a great time! I had Lori for the 12:30 pm class and she was amazing. The studio is small with only one yoga room. However, they have plenty of classes throughout the day to accommodate your needs, and you can also rent towel and yoga mat for $1. The only reason why I give it 4 stars is because there is only one shower, and a pretty small dressing room. But overall, great experience. Will definitively be back. read more
