I'm practicing as an adult but I've seen some of the children's classes and they also look wonderful. The owner and instructor, Dave, is also a really incredible person. He is kind, patient, and extremely good at breaking down the moves and teaching in a cohesive and fun way. Whether you're a beginner or have some martial arts experience (I do) this place is absolutely worth checking out. Pricing is also competitive for SCV and does not require a contract, which I appreciated since a lot places try to lock you into some crazy terms. An amazing friendly and wonderful place to learn something new.

I found this studio on Yelp searching by distance from my home, and was delighted to learn it was so close to where I live! After reading the overview of the studio, I contacted them to see if I could about learn more about their style of Kung Fu to see if it was for me. David was informative and enthusiastic about EVERYTHING Mindful Kung Fu offers, and quick to respond (always a plus in my book)! We had a great chat and encouraged me to come in and try a class. Tucked in a shopping center just off Sierra Highway, catty corner from Dunkin' Donuts is this gem! The door has a giant logo that states "peace through confidence." And when you walk through that door, you are immediately transported into a zen temple. I was home. It was peaceful. David was finishing up the junior class, but greeted me immediately. Man, those little guys looked like that were having a blast! And, wow, David was just as friendly in-person as he was on the phone. He has such passion for the benefits of both Kung Fu and Tai Chi not just for self defense, but for inner peace. You could tell he could talk about the Kung Fu and Tai Chi for hours, and you want listen. You will want to try it, and so I did. David was so patient while teaching me techniques (who doesn't want to learn something called monkey or dragon?) and encouraging, and I got to fight him on my very first day?! I couldn't believe how quickly the time went in just an hour, and knew I had to commit for myself. Training the body, mind and spirit, while finding peace through confidence. Yes please! RUN, don't walk to sign up to change your life through studying at Mindful Kung Fu. A beautiful, and safe place that offers classes for all ages - Pee Wees (ages 4-7), Juniors (ages 7 and up) and Adults. And another perk? Classes are offered morning and evenings, with a bonus Saturday morning Tai chi and Push Hands class for two hours. You're never too young, or old, to learn a new craft. A new business to the area, but David has been training the system (suh do kwan) for many years. You can only benefit from a studying with David! Your first two classes are free, contact them today. Trust me, you won't regret it. It's a new year, a new decade, come discover you while "training only to master yourself" (the school's motto). Thank you for bringing an authentic martial art to Santa Clarita.

Somehow at the end of every class, I feel happy, energized and relaxed all at once. I took tai chi about 10 years ago (Wu style short form) so I'm familiar with some of the basic concepts and stances, but it's been a long time... so it's been great to get back into it. Sigung Carrie and Sigung Jennings are the best. They're patient, professional, funny and warm. They have a lot of wisdom to share, and they really help you to learn all the details of the form as you go through it. Each class is one hour, and there are two classes per week. We spend the first ~25 minutes of each class doing warm-up exercises (which really help you to focus and connect with your body), and then the next ~35 minutes learning the next part of the form. I feel that everything progresses at a good pace, so I have enough time to practice each move / stance before moving on to the learning the next one. One thing to note is that White Lotus shares a big open space (in the JAM facility) with other tumbling / parkour / tricking classes that are going on at the same time. When I first came in to observe a tai chi class, I was a little concerned because the other class that was going on on the other side of the room was pretty loud so I thought it would be distracting. But honestly, once I joined the tai chi class and started doing the exercises and focusing on the form, I found that I barely noticed the other class happening next to us. Maybe others would be deterred by it because they'd prefer a quiet and meditative space, but I don't find it to be a major issue since I can just kind of "zone in" on whatever we're practicing. Anyway, if you're looking to learn tai chi I think this is a great place to do it! I had tried other "tai chi" classes at yoga studios in the SFV and found that they were really just yoga classes with a few random tai chi moves sprinkled in, which wasn't what I was looking for. At White Lotus, you will learn the "48 Forms of Taiji." It's a great way to build strength, balance and flexibility (and improve your mental health, too, in my experience). Come check it out if you're interested... everyone is super friendly :)

My first impression of this place is very positive, it's like a giant playground for ninjas! ;) It might be a little intimidating at the beginning, with everyone flipping and flying everywhere but there is so much room to move around it's crazy liberating. First I worked on my punches, nice how they have little doughnuts around the punching bags for uppercuts. Then watched some of the guys do some freerunning, the moves they do are so sick! The fact that they are 6-pack fit with no shirts on has absolutely NOTHING to do with my staring *ahem* observance. =p It seems like most of the people here are courteous and friendly a few Bboys even taught me some moves. I learned some basic top rock, up rock, 6 step and baby freeze. The wall of mirrors help with self-adjustment of poses and let me know how goofy I look with my arm wave. =) At the end I tried out the spring floor, jumped on the various mats they have and flopped about on the trampoline. The only gymnastic move I could do is an awkward cartwheel to my right. My uncoordinated jumps across the large blocks were landed with heavy face plants and belly-flops. The large trampoline was thrilling with how easy it was to catch so much air. I didn't even try out the scaffolding they set up because my most recent attempt at a pull-up just had me hanging with my feel dangling for a few seconds. o_O; Despite all my shortcomings as an athlete, working out at White Lotus was pure fun and had me laughing and grinning like a kid in a candy store. I have to say the $5 fee for open gym was well spent, you can't even buy a bag of popcorn at the movies for that price. I enjoyed it then, and I recently after a renewed desire to get back into the flow, I revisited this new location, and loved it so much, I'm now here nearly 3-4 times a week. Some of my favorite teachers so far: - Irina Vaysfeld - Irina teaches Level 1, and 1.5/2 flow classes. I find her teaching style conscientious and invigorating. - Regan Mozingo - Regan teaches 1.5 flow. Regan does not take things too seriously, and her class is always a fun time. Every class I've taken of her's has included some much desired upside down time, and she is a talented singer and sings to us during Shavasana. - Christine LaMonica - Christine is the owner, and her classes are what made me fall in love with Prema Yoga in the first place. - Erika Kleinman - Erika's classes are fun, and push me to my edge - often what I need. - Kellie Pulce - I just finished what was basically a private class with Kellie during her weekly 5:30 - 6:30 pm 1.5 flow. Because it was just me she really pushed me so some of what we did was definitely more like 2.0 flow. There should definitely be more bodies in this class on a weekly basis - Kellie is fantastic! If you like yoga and are in the area, Prema Yoga is a great little studio to check out! Note: There's a new student special of $59 unlimited yoga for 30 days, and donation-based yoga with new Yoga Teachers on Sundays at 12:30 PM. And there's parking in the back!
