When I lived up north, this place was phenomenal. Always had good food and great service. It's…read moredefinitely not the same. Let's start with service. My wife and I stood at the host station, unnoticed, for much longer than we should have. Along with the couple that was already standing there when we walked in. And let's just get this out of the way right now. No, it was not busy. However, they were staffed like it was Super Bowl Sunday. 6 servers standing at the bar just chatting away. Staff everywhere but nothing getting done. We finally got seated and after 7+ minutes, someone came by and asked if we'd been waited on. We had not. She said she'd get our waters and find our server. As she walked away, another girl came to our table, asking the same question,"have you been waited on?" After the mass confusion was sorted out, we got our waters. We started with an appetizer that was good and after getting halfway through it, with no sign of our server, I got up and helped myself to some silverware and napkins. We then placed our food order. Food came out fairly quick and looked decent. Let's start with the brisket Mac-n-cheese sandwich. The mac was dry and looked like they melted a slice of cheese on it. And no, I'm not exaggerating. When you do that kind of sandwich, the mac needs to be creamy. The Brisket was good and the bun was tasty. Onion rings were your basic frozen beer battered onion rings. They were good but basic. I had the ribs. They weren't overly hot but I couldn't tell the server, as again, never came back until we were almost done eating. I would bet my life on it, that the ribs come from the distributor, precooked. They have a different taste and texture than your cooked/smoked in-house ribs. I was in this business for many years and used that product in the past. Mediocre food and slow/poor service, all for around $90. It may be why it was a Friday night at 6pm and barely anyone in there. The place needs an update and the staff needs some training. A lot of what we saw, comes down to management.

I've been patronizing this very location for over the past three decades. In that time, I…read moreunderstand that the ownership of business has changed hands several times. The best thing about the Main Sub is the sauce that comes on it. It's worth ordering extra sauce in the side. When I was a kid, I would buy one of these every few months or so. My most recent order of a few days ago found me wondering why the deli meat was so tough and difficult to chew. At least the bread tasted fresh. My sister ordered a veggie pizza. It looked fantastic. However, it tasted as if one of the kitchen workers had sprinkled table salt over the top of the pizza. (Yuck. Not every food requires additional salt.) If I ever return, I may order other menu items, but first inquire about the sodium content. Dining choices are fairly limited in Hibbing, but thankfully the Super One grocery store is available. Two and a half stars, rounded down to two stars for ruining our pizza.

The product put out here has continually declined since new ownership, and it's unfortunate being that Rudi's has been a Hibbing staple for so long. I certainly hope that this does not happen at Palmer's now that this owner has a stake in that business! You have to know the business, understand the business, and most importantly work the business. It's more than writing checks!

Look, I really don't want to be harsh, but I have no idea how this restaurant has so many positive…read morereviews AND repeat customers. As an Asian American, there is absolutely NOTHING remotely authentic about this menu, in fact, it reeks a bit of cultural appropriation and borders on offensive. The fact that they use the term "oriental" to describe their cuisine speaks volumes. I ordered an array of items to try, and each one was more disappointing than the previous one. It seemed like the chef just put popular dish items on the menu and then whipped up whatever he/she had back there. At one point, I honestly thought I was being punked...that some of the dishes were a joke. See photos of my food items to judge for yourself. The "chow mein" is especially embarrassing. To add insult to injury, each dish is upwards of $11, and you could pan fry some top ramen noodles that tasted better than these dishes. The entire restaurant staff was Caucasian, including one of the chefs, who I saw come from the kitchen to hand deliver a take-out order. I have a hard time coming to terms with believing that this is what Midwest folks think is Asian cuisine, let alone GOOD Asian cuisine, especially when you have a decent Chinese buffet down the street. I have NO problem with restaurants serving "homemade" food, but don't try to pawn it off as anything remotely "oriental" when you haven't even made a basic attempt to recreate anything with any semblance of Asian flavor. I will say this - the staff was extremely warm and friendly, and the customer service was great. But sadly, that's not enough to get me to return.
